What is the traditional use of the roller you use to press out the air bubbles when you're applying the grip to the boom (after you've applied the glue)? l don't see such a thing in the hardware store.
Contact cement. Fresh from the store, using old already open for months don’t work well at all because the viscosity is reduced and they are hard to apply evenly. Contact cement is glue used in shoe repairs and laminations. Its light brown in color when fresh and gets darker once open.

the roller is from my wife's ceramics toolbox. I use it because we have it. I don't think it's too hard to fashion something similar or use a spoon.😀
