Yeah. Single ones are only worth it if they live a long time. Get used a heck lot. Or make one annoying job too easy e.g the spirale potato one seems nice if people do that regulary and for multiple potatoes
A knife can be easily sharpened, when dulled. Those gadgets work badly when it gets old and the blades gets dull…..then you need to replace everything again..
@@jimliu2560 depends on the Gadget, how u use it & how accesable it is. I personally have a mandoline at home (not the one from the video, way simpler) but the knife is accessable enough that I can sharpen it whenever it gets dull with something that would go trough the machine or built it out and replace it/sharpen it as I do my knifes. High quality Gadget should offer that option. However I also know some Gadgets that people had for 6-7 years and they worked still very good
Gadgets are like specialists. Theyre really good at just the one thing they do. Knives, on the other hand, are Jacks-of-all-trades, master-of-none sorta things. They will work in just about any situation, but not with the speed and efficiency of a master.
Having the gadgets is more expensive by comparison, depending on the knife set, but i see this also useful for those who just dont want to learn how to do these with a knife, especially one like that potato spiral
Not so sure actually. Because, if someone is too disabled to cut an onion, can they actually peel it? I think the peeling/cleaning is often more difficult than the cutting itself.
@@TIMxisxHERE Disabled person here who does have a difficult time cutting things up. No actually peeling an onion is relatively very easy compared to chopping it up since it doesn't require as much fine movement or physical force, at least for me. Though obviously that does vary from person to person and from medical condition to medical condition.
It might be simple and take up a lot of space, but my favorite one is the tomato slicer we use at work. It’s kinda bulky, but all you have to do is set them down on the slicer, and push them through the blades. Can be a little messy to, but it’s quick, easy, and honestly, just fun to use. Would be hard to clean without the high pressure sprayer we have for the sink though.
While the gadgets might be faster I think the knife basically does just about anything. I don't have the room for an entire gadget to do just one thing. One place the knife wins is they're really easy to clean.
Hi Dave! Quick pro tip on getting garlic smell off your hands. Take a stainless steel spoon, under cold running water, rub your fingers and hand on the spoon for a bit until all the garlic smell is gone. Works like a charm!
As someone who struggles with my knife skills because of disability, gadgets like these are the only reason I haven't lost a digit in the kitchen. No way can I mince garlic or cut grapes when my hands shake like a leaf on a windy day.
@@beezzinhafr, many people think these gadgets seem funny, useless and stupid but they are the things that make my gramma continue to do what she loves the most, which is cooking! @@TIMxisxHERE actually it's not that they can't, but using knife can be more dangerous for someone with mobility issues, for example my mom has wrist weakness in both of her hands after accidents. When she cook, sometimes she drop off some cooking tools or plate because of her wrists weakness.. some of these inventions can be more safe if she drop it, or some of it are more stable (for example like using it on the table) etc. And for me, sometimes i have severe trembling so knife can be quite dangerous for me

Loved the comparison video Dave. I have a very small kitchen so I normally don't have many gadgets, but clearly some can really be handy and beneficial. I particularly liked the mandolin slicer and the simple spiralizer.
Have you tried to review or try some gadgets that are good or specifically built for left-handed people ? Some gadgets are kinda good and easy to use, but they kinda meant to be used by general, right-handed people
whether or not I would use a gadget would depend on what food it’s for. Like if I ate a lot of the food that it’s for, I would buy the gadget because I’ll use it often. But if I don’t, I’d just use a knife
I have the apple one. Ise it for snacks and once to very quickly cut some apples for a pie my mom was making. Even she was glad for its speed and uniformity there. Imo the safety, speed, and uniform nature of a well designed gadget make storage worthwhile.
I have crazy good knife skills, so that's my go to. Especially for the space savings. For garlic, put the blade on its side and give it a smasharoo before mincing it. For fancy potatoes, cut a strip on the flattest side so it will lay flat. Take those skewers and lay them along the potato to keep the knife from going all the way through and thin slice them. Season them while fanning them out, then spray with oil and bake. I do own and use one of the chop boxes for cutting everything up to make huge batches of potato bacon soup just because it's easier.
These all seem really useful to someone like me, who is terrified of sharp knives. I'd much prefer the hands-off gadgets to the close-and-personal knife and fingers.
honestly. the multi-gadget at the start is my favoret. ITS FOR EVERYTHING AT ONCE! really! not one gadget for each fruit or veggie. ALL IN ONE by the way i love your videos a lot thanks for geving me the liking for kitchen gadgets!
My favorite gadget is a commercial grade deli slicer - slices tomatos better than your methods, lunch meats, cured meats, cheese, potatos for au gratin, lettuce and more. Cleans up quickly if you know how. And if you are careful, quite safe (hint - the blade is sharper than even a sharp knife). The only downside is you need to dedicate permanent space for a 40 pound machine.
You don't have to bin the skins either because most of it can go in a compost for flowers and so on same for things like apple cores so it's a win win situation.
I have one of those apple slicer corer and peelers. I have a friend with an apple tree and she gives me a giant bag of apples every year, usually about 25. I make dehydrated apple rings out of them, and that slicer corer and peeler is an absolute necessity. Once you get good at using it, you can have 20 apples turned into a huge stack of perfect apple rings ready for the dehydrator in about 10-15 mins. Doing it by hand, it takes forever and the rings dont end up perfect and uniform thickness.
The apple gadget is great! My mom had one growing up and it made quick work of preparing a ton on freshly picked apples for canning pie filling and applesauce.
It isn't always about speed. Most home cooks are going that extra step and want their meals to at least look like a chef-prepared delight. Many of these gadgets allow the home cook to slice, dice, and julienne like a pro without years of practice to make perfect cubes and equidistant slices. When chefs say their dish is rustic, that is code for "I made a real mess of cutting my vegetables with a knife.
The neat thing about garlic is that the more you chop them up, the more aromatic they become because there is more damage to the cells which release the scent
I really enjoy the meat tenderizer we have, it’s got a bunch of tiny thin blades and while holding the handle, you press down, which creates a bunch of little holes in the meat. You do it for the whole piece of meat and it always comes out more tender than without using the gadget. The brand on ours is Jaccard
I prefer a good sharp knife, I can slice the thickness I want each time, there is no setup time, and no disassembly to wash it afterwards. Most kitchen gadgets quickly end up at the back of the least used cupboard.
I keep missing my favorite onion cutting helper. It looks like a steel comb with fairly long, pointy spikes. Punch those through each half onion and cut along each spike. The kicker is the last step, cutting across: No unwieldly disintegration of those pre cut slices anymore 😂

You have done a video like this before did you find more gadgets?
I wouldn’t think so
maybe
yea because kinfes are multipurpose and gadgets can only do few things
