I had another comment below, but check the settings for tomb raider... Lowest performance profile for claw. The ally had custom with some settings on normal. I wonder why the claw had more performance...😂

I sincerely hope that the claw's performance improves over time. However, at this moment, I must express my preference for the ROG ALLY.
Rog ally has had months to release updates get community feed back and fix issues I'm sure msi claw will be pushing out updates as well

@@optimalbonkerz When ALLY was released, there were many laptops and mini pc using 7840u/hs and worked pretty well, therefore consumer believed Asus would fix the problems within months. However laptops of core ultra have the same problem as Claw, there is no promise from Intel could fix the problem in the near future.
@@Coconutgl yea I went with steam deck for my handheld, I have a ROG desktop and decided I just didn't want windows in a handheld for factor, I saw alot of small issues with the Asus rog and complaints from consumer feedback and decided the steam deck was proplbably the best option for what I wanted in a handheld device, I'm just glad this market is expanding the way it has and giving consumers more options even if the other options are not the best thing available at least we get a choice
@@optimalbonkerz I choose Steam Deck too, I understand some players prefer windows and a faster APU so they choose Ally. However there is no reason for buying Claw, Intel GPU problem is not only on Core Ultra, but also on desktop Arc too.
I prefer to spend more money for less performance. So it's def the MSI Claw for me.
I am not sure where he is getting his results, everything I have seen is ally with better performance. I am wondering if ally was at a 15watt power, and 25watt on the claw
I just checked the settings he used for tomb raider. The claw was running lowest, ally was custom with a lot more features turned on, and some settings at normal. I hope those screen grabs were for reference and not what he was comparing....

It seems to me he was comparing the weaker version of the Ally with the strongest version of the Claw.
Also other reviewers said the back grill is fake and only two places air gets out and in while this guy pretended it was all real. Was he fooled by the fake grill or just catering to MSI?

Maybe, I don't know enough about the z1 non extreme performance to compare. But like stated above the settings on tomb raider weren't the same... Aka ally was running higher settings. That would explain some of the discrepancies.
Hopefully driver improvements will help the Claw. All of the videos I seen vs the Ally shows the Ally stomping the Claw in almost everything.
Rog Ally is the best so far, it can emulate anything without any issue - plan on keeping mine for next few years
Yes I do agree, with my Ally I was able to finish twisted metal for ps3 using rpcs3 emulator, difficult game to emulate and impossible to accomplish with an handheld until one year ago.

Ofc it is terrible. They put stronger cpu when it needs better gpu. Just buy ally. Its 20% faster for 30% less money.
They are just making the bezels huge to make them smaller in the next version so they can sell both, it is hilarious. Also the bezels are for 2024

Yes you're getting the same or better results on the Claw but at what Power Draw? Settings? There's a reason the Claw has a bigger battery.
Rog ally. I’ve tested the MSI claw and the top triggers are quite uncomfortable for me due to the chamfered design. I use L1 and R1 buttons a lot for my emulators , so it is a dealbreaker.
The Claw's LED is awesome!
This video is bs. I just ran shadow of the tomb raider on my legion go and got 82 fps with the same settings. The rog ally about the same.

Have you considered trying crysis remastered on the rog ally and msi claw? I was curious about what is the max fps with crysis remastered on the rog ally and msi claw both on the same graphics highest settings. Crysis remastered is my favorite game to play that I use as a reference and benchmark because of can it run crysis mode in every graphics settings on pc since it demands every bit of hardware with unlimited settings. Similar to how the sennheiser hd 600 audiophile headphones are used as a reference for other kinds of headphones. I treat crysis remastered similar to sennheiser hd 600 audiophile headphones with these graphics settings. Can it run crysis mode in every graphics settings with ray tracing always enabled, always native 4k, dlss always off, motion blur always off, v sync always off, ray tracing experimental boost always enabled. With games that support unlimited fps I always enable unlimited fps and still play in native 4k. With handheld gaming devices I use the same exact graphics settings but the only difference is the resolution would be 1080p since there is no 4k handheld gaming device. Otherwise I would choose 4k resolution if there was a handheld gaming device with a 4k resolution. My sony xperia 1 iv android phone has a 4k 120 hz oled display. I mentioned my phone because sony is the only manufacturer that implemented a 4k display on there phones and I really love the 4k 21:9 aspect ratio of my phone.

Hell, Windows can't play all Steam games...😆 But I'll tell you what can play the MOST Steam games...the Steam Deck. Yes, not at 1080p with magical settings. But A LOT more games will run as originally intended than those other devices. A LOT. And it gives a 'just work' approach to PC gaming. Why do you think so many reviewers are quick to give the 'best handheld' award to an 800p device, when there are 1600p screen handhelds out there? I'll tell you why: because when I'm on a flight or taking the train, I don't want to faff around with settings/drivers/patches, and STILL have issues. I want to PLAY. Steam Deck let's gamers just PLAY, on the go. And when they come out with a Steam Deck 2 in 2026 (reportedly), well...all the 'shortcomings' of being an underpowered machine will be alleviated. Plus all the compatibility of using Linux.
If you think there are a lot of L's handed out to the handheld competition of Steam Deck now, wait till SD2 hits...lol. In the meantime, I'll enjoy my remote play of Spider-Man 2 from my PS5 on my Steam Deck. Oh...the Ally can do that too? You might want to check on the compatibility of that, it's pretty glitchy and spotty. Another advantage of being on Linux...😉
Some people defense Claw that Ally had similar problem when it was released. However at that moment, Steam Deck was the only competitor in the market (didn't count other small brands only provide thousand units with high price), and obviously Z1E is better than SD APU. Also there were many laptops and mini pc using 7840u/hs and worked pretty well, therefore consumer believed Asus would fix the problems within months.
Claw has difference situation, there are ALLY and Legion GO in the market with better price and performance than Claw, and the laptops with Core Ultra have the same performance issue as Claw, Intel has no promise to fix the problem in near future.
Rog Ally for me. But great that Intel are bringing out a handheld for those that want it.

I saw a few test they shown on other channels every game including tomb radar the ally is destroying the msi. Driver update is definitely needed in sure it will catch up or even pass it but for 599 ally is the better deal

Are you sure there's a lot of cooling on the back and not only 2 small triangles off cooling, around the same size cooling as the Ally, and the rest isnt just fake mesh.
Apart from that i was really hoping this would be the new king, maybe with future updates as all these devices had rough beginnings, but I need one for a long trip now and hate the broken sd in the rog but hate that I cant play gamepass on long flights on the deck.
To save a headache seems I'll need a deck an ally 2 2tb ssd's and as many external batteries as a flight will allow 😂😂😂 joking of course.
In a few years we'll probably see a real handheld king, for now it seems anything will do with a few pros and cons

I got the Rog Ally, but I'd rather get the Lenovo Legion Go.
The reason why I didn't get the Legion Go and went with ROG Ally simply because they don't sell Legion Go in Taiwan yet.
The ally wins in almost all except SD card issue for some, smaller screen and battery.
@@jackykwan2580 Ally no USB4, only 1 port, plus that proprietary eGPU port that 90% of the people won't use.
Legion Go you can bring to places where you might want to watch content without those controllers.

ROG Ally definitely because Intel such a bad experience using intel handheld (cough) GPD Win 3 so didn't expect the latest intel handheld to be anywhere near good though they can still continuously update it with software patches let's see how it goes through these months hopefully it will improve like the Ally and even Legion Go back in launch day

Your not really making a fair apples to apples cause MSI claw goes all the way to 45W power draw consistently when ROG ally only goes to like 40W for 10 seconds.
You gotta have them both at 30W and see what performance is

I bought the unit myself. The claw definitely needs software updates. Because it has the same iGPU as other Intel core ultra laptops. It's just not tuned well

My Ally need better battery and cooling ... SD card still hot after updates. Ally 2 is a big NO for me.

Why do a review now when it's not at its full potential? This is a total waste of time and video. Because of course the ally had time to get better and steam deck. Legion go hasn't gotten their A game yet. Msi claw just got released and their software isn't at par yet.

It's a realy very high quality product. Sitting perfectly in thumb. Key response is best. Performance is much better than other brands. No heating issues like other brands.

Disingenuous side by side comparison in the performance category. You ran the graphics at lowest setting on the claw to get higher fps, 8:36 it’s obvious the tomb raider looks like PS1 graphics. No way MSI is paying you since you chose the Ally so why try to make the claw look better there?

Dude.. ROG Ally Z1 extreme has similar in performance with DESKTOP i5 13400 65-154watt, but only draw 30-50watt.
780M is comparable to desktop 1650. With FSR + AFMF, it can reach 3050 Laptop performance with only 30 watt...

The 780m is worse than a laptop 1650 in real world gameplay
The cpu is good though, runs ai chatbots well.
