Story 1, I think they should have looked into the archives more where they would have found the saying, "It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener in a war." It might have given pause.
Humanity chose to study war no more because we are so terrifyingly good at it. You made us study war again and gave us a great cause to fight for. We hate how much we are going to love this.
I grew up among soldiers, my father was a soldier for 36 years. I do not know a single soldier who loves war. As my father likes to say, the only people who love war are those who have never seen its face.
You know, they didn't even need to look at our history, just glancing at our popular media would have worked. For every Federation there is an Imperium, and for every Captain Kirk there are a hundred armored battle brothers.
Not even a minute into the video and I hear: "They focused on science, not war." I pause the and say "Buddy, they focus on science FOR war." (And for uses of the weapons outside wartime)
Story #1 reminds me of another story with this line: Humanity is not a peaceful race trying to play war; humanity is a warrior race trying to play peace.
First story; using things as weapons first before practical use, yeah I can see humans using FTL bombardment missiles first before going "Hey, why don't she ride on these things?"
There is a difference between peaceful, and harmless. To be harmless is to to unable to cause any harm. To be peaceful is to have the ability to cause harm and choose not to. Humans can be peaceful, we can never be harmless.
The second story illustrates how prejudice works very well, though we have many humans on earth also as complacent as that species. It's one of the main ways we get the prejudice we do here, fear of change leads to scapegoating some group
There's another human saying, "Those who beat their swords into plowshares will plow for those who didn't." Also, "Peace through superior firepower," and "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum."...among others.
My fellow sentients, there is a simple truth I wish to share when dealing with Humans: Just because they seem peaceful, does not know they don't mean that they don't know how to wage war. Indeed it's the opposite, they are so warlike that they had to adapt a way of peace to advance least they turn that aggression inwards and destroy themselves. I beg you, do not wake their beasts of war. A single human is useless in a fight against most of the galactic races, they can be humorous. But the entire race united against an enemy? They are war demons that will fight to the death, ours preferably.
@@AlexSDU LOL ... I had to reread it to realize that it SHOULD read "does not mean that they don't..." instead of "does not know they..." *sigh* I blame being awake since 2 am. Thank you for alerting me to that silly mistake. It may been a small mistake but it totally threw off the comment.
Greetings Mentlegent! For the Rhyhtm that is Algo Story 1: You can rock us, yes. You can shock us, maybe. But if you don't finish us off in the early innings, we will stomp us flat later on. Story 2: Posthumous because they let us in. Once you do that, you're finished.
It is well that war is so terrible, otherwise we should grow too fond of it. R.E. Lee. They made us turn back to war and gave life to humanity's ghosts, who are fond of war and very good at it.

@@alganhar1 I've seen enough of what people do while at peace to be wary if what people do at war. Screw that noise.
And even the decision to stop war resulted in a war.

There are soldiers that volunteered for multiple tours in Vietnam.

If story 1 happened I think with a disastrous first contact like that humanity would go down a dark path.

That's a possibility, but i think there would be a schism with people who still want to stay peaceful

No need for missiles at relativistic speeds, a decent sized tungsten carbide rod with a hyperdrive (or whatever) would do the job.
