It was 126 FBS teams 11 years ago. Update to 2024 as there are 134 FBS schools as of now. There are even more as D-1 football is broken up to FBS and FCS divisions. FCS has 129 schools on top of the 134 for a total of 263 D-1 schools.

Yes, Iowa is the stadium that has the Children's Hospital nearby. Note as well that many of these stadiums are 60-100 years old. College football has a long standing popularity in America. Just as college football is the minor leagues for the NFL, high school football (which is also big in America) is the minor leagues for CFB. The recruiting areas are then seating for prospective HS recruits.

The Big Ten is the oldest major conference in college sports. It was founded in 1896 and was originally made up of the biggest schools in the Great Lakes region. It's had relatively few changes in it's time compared to other conferences. Ohio State joined in 1912, Chicago left around WW2, Michigan State joined shortly after. Penn State joined in the 90s, and Nebraska, Maryland, and Rutgers all came in the early 2010s. This coming season they're adding UCLA, USC, Oregon, and Washington from the west coast.

The Parking at Camp Randle Stadium is a result of the Stadium being originally built in 1917, and its being surrounded by the city of Madison -
so on game day you can either park further out and walk/ride a bus to the stadium, or -
a lot of the folks around the stadium will allow people to park in their driveways or on their lawns- for a fee. The closer to the stadium, the more they'll charge.
But since you are just off of downtown, there are a significant number of public parking structures within about a mile and a half of the stadium (2-3 km).

These are the stadiums of the teams in the Big 10 Conference. There are a number of conferences in the US including the Southeastern, Big 12, Atlantic Coast, etc. There has been a Pacific 12 for many years but during the last year it sort of imploded and most of the teams moved to other conferences so there are only 2 teams left in it as of now. ps. Many of these state universities are in relatively small, rural towns, so some of them become the largest city in whatever state on game day.

This is an old video, Ross-Ade at Purdue has been renovated (again) after 100 years and capacity is higher, even as it is lower than the seating in the 1970s and 1980s. Purdue is the founding school of the conference, organized by then Purdue president Smart. Many college football related traditions are tied to the BIG Ten, such as Purdue being the first marching band in the country to break ranks and create formations on the field. More recently added conference school Rutgers is where the first ever college game was played.

East Lansing has a population of about 46k (not including students) lol on gameday East Lansing becomes one of the most populous cities in the state usually drawing close to 200k to the area each game depending on the opponent. 9:32 most college football stadiums started out like this way back in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As the game grew more and more popular, universities would start to expand the stadiums. Often by first building up each side, then often by closing in an end behind one of the end zones/goals. A lot of schools stopped here. Some made more upgrades to the “horseshoe” shaped stadiums. Often adding upper decks or completely rebuilding sections or even entire sides. Other schools chose to continue expanding their stadiums to completely encircle the playing fields. They also will add upper decks of more seating or again replacing whole sections or even entire sides. This is more often than not how some of these college football stadiums became as monstrous as they are.
But please remember that most college stadiums use more bleacher seating than individual seating. This allows much larger capacities than NFL pro stadiums as the NFL stadiums use more individual seating which takes up more space.
Also, PLEASE react to the College Football Stadiums of the SEC Conference, here on the same channel as the BIG10 stadiums video.

Actually, at Camp Randall, there's a parking ramp under one side of the stadium. However, there's also a LOT of people who end up parking in other places. This stadium is near downtown and there are parking ramps everywhere. There's also people who live near the stadium that will sometimes let you park in their driveway for a few bucks, and there's street side parking in places. It gets pretty crazy on game days if you try to drive in the area. Lots of foot traffic too. The badgers have a VERY devoted fan base. In fact, funny story, back in 1994, when the Badgers went to the Rose Bowl in California... They underestimated how much the Wisconsin fans could drink. We literally drank the stadium dry of beer.

There are two divisions in college football. 128 FBS schools/teams. The FBS is like the premier league, the biggest and the best. There are 133 FCS schools/teams. Each division subdivides into conferences. The FBS conferences: Atlantic Coast Conference ACC, American, Big 12, Big Ten, Conference-USA, Independent, Mid-American Conference, Mountain West, Pacific or PAC-12, Southeastern Conference(SEC) and Sun Belt conferences. Arguably, the best conferences are SEC, Big Ten and Big 12. ACC and Pac-12 make a good showing for themselves as well. While these conferences were initially regional, in the last few years teams have been moving conferences. Better conferences usually means better TV deals, more money for the schools, and better recruiting. During football season, multiple games will be played on multiple channels from about 11am east coast to about 11pm west coast. So yeah, 12 to 14 hours of grid-iron goodness. NFL is played on Sundays, 1 game on monday night and sometimes a game on thursday night.

There are 9 conferences in the top level of Division 1 or FBS - Football Bowl Subdivision .
The 10th conference, The PAC- Pacific Coast Conf will dissolve starting this August when football season begins.
Because of TV rights, money, teams are jumping to other conf. Each conf is independent with their own Commissioners, tv deals and even refferies umbrellaed under the rules of the NCAA. Years of tradition is gone for treasure in this new trend..
Division 1AA or FCS - football championship Subdivision is the next level of football. Followed by Division 2 and finally D3 ...
D1 FBS with 130 teams is 90% of what is seen on tv or talked about. It also produces 90% of NFL players.

They recently expanded the Big-10 conference to include USC, UCLA, Washington, and Oregon. I think it's 18 now.
As others have posted, these are stadiums of this particular conference, not the 10 best in the country.
Other conferences include the SEC, Big-12, ACC, Mountain West, WAC, Conference USA, Sun Belt, etc.

There are three basic divisions for college football, with each division having different rules for recruiting football players. The basic rule difference is the number of players the teams can recruit with full (Division 1), partial (2), or none (3) athletic scholarships. So all the best prospective high school football players shop around for the best scholarships and best football coaches. They are all hoping a division 1 school will want them.
Conferences were initially organized with 12 or less schools (or teams) so that everyone plays against each other during the 12 to 14 games played each season. With over 100 division 1 schools, there are around 10-12 conferences. Recently the number of schools in conferences have increased, so many conferences are dying as their teams join better conferences.

Lol! the big 10 is a conference. Their are many college football conferences. Big 10, ACC, SEC, PAC 12, Big East, WAC among many others. These are usually referred to as the power conferences as they are some of the most top tier and competitive conference nationally. There are some conferences that are a somewhat separate from those but can also crack national rankings though they are usually outliers when they do compete against those power conferences. Ivy League schools like Harvard and Princeton. HBCU’s (historically black college universities) such as Morehouse, Hampton and Grambling university also have their own conference. Collegiate Sports is a massive deal in North America. Whereas major cities have more professional sports support, colleges are everywhere including more rural areas and tier 2 cities with smaller metropolitan areas. But generations upon generations of alumni are why you see massive support at these games.

The level of play at college is very high. Most of the guys have been scouted and recruited since H.S. with a resume of playing the game for 10 years often. They commit to play for a college after being recruited and usually offered scholarships worth alot of money to play, pluss now other endorsements. The facilities to train and resources available to them is ridiculous. A small fraction will make it to the NFL. If you make a college football or basketball team. That's impressive ! Shit , alot of kids never make the team in H.S.

The big 10 has 14 teams as of the making of that video. There are currently 10 D1-FBS Conferences, but will likely be 9 soon since the PAC-12 is losing members. Overall there are around 130 teams in D1-FBS.
He mispronounced Illini (uh LIE ni). It's a reference to a Illiniwek a Native American tribe that lived in that area.
The one that was at a NASCAR track was a regular season game played at the Bristol Motor Speedway. It's atendance was 150,000. Tennessee vs Virginia Tech.
You have, they played Princeton in the first acknowledged College Football game, ever. Recruiting office for new players. We also have High School football. High School is grades 9-12.

When I was a teenager in the 1990's. Michigan added around a 1,000 seats to their stadium capacity, raising the capacity to a little over 100,000. Giving them the largest stadium in the country. In response the Tennessee Volunteers increased Neyland stadium to a capacity a bit larger than Michigan's, so they could claim to have the largest stadium. That is college football in a nutshell.

When he says 14 teams, he’s talking about the 14 teams in the Big 10 Conference. Over the years, many conferences, such as the Big 10, SEC, ACC, and Big 12 have expanded the number of teams in their conference, but never changed their name😂In fact, the Big 10 conference now has 18 teams. New additions for the 2024/2025 season include the University of Southern California (USC), the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Oregon, and the University of Washington. These teams were apart of a conference called the Pac 12, but that conference essentially died due to realignment (teams going to other conferences). All but 2 former Pac12 teams went to the Big 10 or Big 12 conferences. You should watch a video on realignment as well as the new Playoff format. The 2024/2025 season will look VERY different than previous seasons

You should check out the southeast conference (SEC) stadiums too, they have even more big stadiums. Also, you can probably guess, but college football brings in big money for the colleges. Football mainly, but mens and sometimes women's basketball are considered the main revenue generating sports, which pays for the other sports for the school, up to 18 different sports teams for each woman and men's. The US has a rule that there needs to be even mens and woman's athletic scholarships given. Considering football teams are allowed up to 85 scholarships, that means a lot of women's sports are provided full scholarship teams. Lastly, this is a big reason why the US does so good in so many Olympics sports, because many of them are college athletes, as well as the women's soccer team. Although, many international Olympic athletes also play for American university teams too, because they can recruit domestically and internationally for student athletes. All mainly because of college football.

Ohio stadium wasn't originally sunk in when it was built, later they dug the field down so it is below ground level now, it let them put more seats in without building up. Also, the super pristine looking fields aren't real grass, they're field turf. Some schools still use grass so they don't loom quite as perfect. Also also, Illini is pronounced uh-lie-nye. . Its bamed for thr confederation of indigenous tribes who historically had inhabited much of present-day Illinois; It's also sometimes used now as a term for anyone from Illinois.

His dry wit about turtles does ring true. Why for football? There are so many legend about football. Some true & some not. I have no idea about a sunken bulldozer. College is liked better than NFL?? I like it better but I'm not sure that is universal. NFL does have a massive following. College has a lot more loyal fans. Pros seem pick up & lose fans depending on how they play.
