At the time, it was virtually unheard of to play an unorthodox version of the Star Spangled Banner. Jimi got a lot of criticism for this, but Jimi was a huge patriot, and a former paratrooper in the army. This was an anti war statement, not an anti America statement.
I like hearing you talk about Hendrix's funk. Bootsy Collins and George Clinton were obsessed with Hendrix especially post Experience like Band of Gypsys, but also soul like "Have You Ever Been".
Jimi produced one of the greatest pieces of art of the 20th century; up there with Picasso, Dali etc. He brilliantly expressed the great paradox that is America - beautiful on the surface yet distorted and corrupt underneath. He painted the pain and the horror that is America's compulsion to war. That performance will forever live in history.
The only thing that sucks, as far as I've been able to find, is that the only video on UA-cam of Voodoo Child from Woodstock is a 4 minute and some seconds clip of the performance. The actual performance was over 14 minutes long.
Young Man, Jimi Hendrix to me is one of the 3 masters (Jimi, Bruce Lee, Ali). Jimi will blow you away, but you have to listen, the more you listen the more you will hear. Jimi Hendrix "Johnny B. Goode" Live from Hendrix in the West Jimi Hendrix "Hey Joe" Monterey Pop Live Jimi Hendrix "Like a rolling stone" Monterey Pop live When you get a chance PLEASE!!!
don't get me wrong I like Hendrix but I will never understand why anyone calls this performance great. it sounds like pure crap to me. all out of tune etc
The out of tune crazy sounds were meant to be sounds of war (women and children screaming, bombs falling then exploding) they were making a statement about Vietnam
@@deangoings there’s plenty of videos of him retuning his guitar inbetween songs. If you know how guitars work you’d know that using your whammy bar will always throw you way out of tune but if you want perfect music with zero mistakes go listen to classical or pop music
All the sounds that were not the Spangled banner, was the sounds of war. He perfectly captured the sound of artillery, bombs, jets, and human agony.
Jimi perfectly recreated the sounds of war.

Baddest electric cat of them all..

Same here , I'm left handed but play a right handed 🎸
Aye ✌️
Very good I like it saludos cordiales desde Chile 🇨🇱
This is great but please check out Jimi's performance of Voodoo Child from this concert ! I've never seen anyone review it.
That's a great performance. There has been a handful of reactions to it and still up on UA-cam ✌
@@mr.goodenough3796 I like Hendrix's Woodstock performance of it more than Steve Ray Vaughan's rendition.
@@bobhope3716 So do I.

@@bobhope3716 I did not know SRV did a version of this
I can tell you are a bass or drummer, Hendrix is beyond on tone and melody.

funk? Would you not say it's the blues stripped of style? You're way more educated than me on the subject but that was my immediate thought
War

It wasn't meant to sound nice.
@@chrisbuiles1252 but he was out of tune most of the time he played anything live. Because he was frying on acid nonstop.

It's not out of tune at all, he just creates sounds of war. It's not supposed to sound nice and clean. It was about how it felt to him.
