Stralsund is een historische stad met zo’n 60.000 inwoners. Het was een van de eerste Hanzesteden. Tot Die Wende behoorde Stralsund tot de DDR. De toenmalige regering investeerde zwaar in de wederopbouw, want de stad had veel geleden in de oorlog. De maritieme industrie was van groot belang voor de stad. De Volkswerft Stralsund, een scheepswerf, werd een belangrijke werkgever en produceerde schepen voor zowel civiel als militair gebruik. Na Die Wende heeft de stad zich ontwikkeld tot een belangrijk toeristisch centrum in de regio. De ligging aan het water en de nabijheid van bossen, meren en het eiland Rügen hebben daaraan bijgedragen. De binnenstad staat sinds 2002 op de Werelderfgoedlijst van de Unesco.
Stralsund es una ciudad histórica con alrededor de 60.000 habitantes. Fue una de las primeras ciudades hanseáticas. Hasta Die Wende, Stralsund perteneció a la RDA. El gobierno de turno invirtió mucho en la reconstrucción, porque la ciudad había sufrido mucho durante la guerra. La industria marítima fue de gran importancia para la ciudad. El astillero Volkswerft Stralsund se convirtió en un importante empleador y producía barcos para uso civil y militar. Después de Die Wende, la ciudad se ha convertido en un importante centro turístico de la región. A ello han contribuido la ubicación junto al agua y la proximidad de bosques, lagos y la isla de Rügen. El centro de la ciudad está en la Lista del Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO desde 2002.
Stralsund is a historic city with about 60,000 inhabitants. It was one of the first Hanseatic cities. Until Die Wende, Stralsund belonged to the GDR. The government at the time invested heavily in reconstruction, because the city had suffered greatly during the war. The maritime industry was of great importance to the city. The Volkswerft Stralsund, a shipyard, became an important employer and produced ships for both civilian and military use. After Die Wende, the city developed into an important tourist centre in the region. The location on the water and the proximity of forests, lakes and the island of Rügen contributed to this. The city centre has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2002.
Stralsund mintegy 60 000 lakosú történelmi város. Az egyik első Hanza-város volt. A Die Wende-ig Stralsund az NDK-hoz tartozott. A korabeli kormány sokat fektetett az újjáépítésbe, mert a város sokat szenvedett a háború alatt. A tengeri ipar nagy jelentőséggel bírt a város számára. A Volkswerft Stralsund hajógyár jelentős munkaadóvá vált, polgári és katonai felhasználásra egyaránt gyártott hajókat. Die Wende után a város a régió fontos turisztikai központjává fejlődött. A vízparti elhelyezkedés, az erdők, tavak és Rügen-sziget közelsége hozzájárult ehhez. A városközpont 2002 óta szerepel az UNESCO világörökségi listáján.
