He started a charity fund… without knowing what charity to give the funds to??
That's what he's claiming, however in all the charity event livestreams the Completionist lists several charities that he says are going to receive the money, meaning that he obviously knows which charities to donate to, but they just simply didn't actually donate the money. Even in the best faith interpretation, they started a charity event that operated for years, and they never figured out HOW to actually donate the money somehow, and then lied to the people donating about where the money was going. It's either a comical level of incompetence, or (allegedly) fraud.

What’s deeply disturbing and disgusting is that he said he started this “charity” in honor of his late mother.

Yes, he hasn’t technically pocketed any money, but he also didn’t donate the funds. Which is the whole point of charity. Even if he donated the funds right now, it would raise the question as to why he didn’t donate it before he got exposed.

Apparently he was just told about the funds an year ago. I’m just upset that he just let it sit there and didn’t seem interested in the charity. Maybe the people around him, told him they will donate it but idk

Jerad should have checked but the sad thing is the nonprofit is run by his brother and his family. Most likely he trusted them and they fcked up and has no idea what to do without throwing his brother under the bus. He really should have been looking into what was going on even a little or 9 years thats just so much neglect
This is seriously messed up. Even if he didn't pocket the money, he still lied about actually giving the money to charity even after admitting he knew last year. Lying about charity is one of the worst things you can do on the internet.

Not only that but he is very liable to being sued I think. I could be wrong but if you run a charity but don't donate said money that can be considered fruad.
I would not be surprised if him (or his brother) has just hoarded it as a fallback fund if their regular careers tank.
A few months ago when the Nintendo eshop closed for 3DS and Wii U Jirard uploaded a video detailing how he bought every single game on both stores with the cost being over 20k. And there just happens to be a chunk of money missing from the charity fund as unspecified expenses. I’m not saying the two are connected, but it makes you raise an eyebrow if anything
Imo, that would be a dumb way of using those funds since if he marked it as a business expense, he can write off buying video game systems and it would essentially reduce the overall taxes he would pay as a business since he would report a lower income, write off assets, and pay overall fewer taxes. Given how many things he has to purchase for and through the channel, this is something he should definitely know about since he clearly only cares about HIS money.
I think more likely...the funds are paying for someone's college. its a small amount, 10k to 20k per year and 2015 had the highest operational expenses at $27k and the years since the fluctuate between 10k and 20k.
That's a very reasonable college fund if the person has scholarships or going to a state school. Easier to hide as well. Jirard didn't find out until 2021 he says and funds started to deplete in 2015...4 to 6 years in college? Yeah, that's reasonable
I remember that. On the video he talked about how he secured a sponsor for it but I dont remember him saying who the sponsor was.
And I beleive the total for all the eshop games was about 23k. Now I wonder why wouldn't a sponsor donating that much money wouldn't want to get the recognition for that event. Highly suspicious
This is a reminder that we the audience don't really know anything about any of the content creators we watch at all.
A lot of fans tend to blindly put some level of trust to people we don't know at all just because they can put a persona and make entretainment on the internet.

A sobering reminder that relationships with content creators are parasocial at best. These people aren't your friends, whether they're good people or not. Whether you COULD be friends if you met in person or not. So don't treat them as such. Being friends is not a prerequisite to being friendly and enjoying someone.
People need to understand that this is not just YT drama this is a serious crime. Even if the money is just sitting in a bank account, the Completionist is still collecting donations without using the funds for their intended purpose. This is charity fraud and the completionist could go to prison for this.

It's really sad that defenders of Jirard are trying to call this whole situation simply drama when it is actual fraudulent behavior and potentially illegal.
Same thing with sssniperwolf. The problem is the young audience don't know the difference what's categorically illegal (tax fraud or inciting harassment through doxxing, etc) or just drama (calling someone out for faking videos).
They see it all as drama and think canceling someone is the same as holding them accountable

Jirard is a liar. He says they didn't donate the money yet becauae they haven't found the "right" charity, but then also says he assumed the money was being donated after learning about this in 2022. So he never bothered to learn where he supposedly assumed it was getting donated? Wouldn't he want to know what worthy charity was found??? It doesn't add up.
To me, this just seems like hoarding, waiting for the right moment before pulling out with the money, taking all of it, or as much as possible. I can't think of any other reason why you'd just let charity money sit in a bank account for almost a decade.

It reminds me of when I was a kid id pull out a sweet and maybe hide it behind some stuff on the counter, and leave it until my mom went in the kitchen. If she didnt notice anything missing after a couple hours id go get the sweet and enjoy it, but if she notice it id make up some excuse why it was out.
I bet when this is fully investigated by the IRS and other federal agencies, there will be more nefarious actions coming to light.

People are so quick to demonize Mr. Beast when he spends his money actually helping people, but then they are so quick to defend The Completionist when he has been holding money in a bank account waiting to be donated for 10 years...
The most baffling thing to me about this situation is that they’ve been hosting a stream event for people to donate to the cause every year. There’s no way that for all those years, not only did it not occur to anyone involved to actually go to donate the recent total and see the past donations just sitting there, not only did they never discuss it at any point and come to the realisation, not only did they go into the foundation without a plan or even a single charity involved, but they went ahead with the planning of the next year’s event as if everything was all hunky-dory. For years!
The Completionist was an inspiration of mine a little while back, but even slight bias can’t stop me from seeing this as a nefarious grift at absolute worst and a gross amount of incompetence at very best. Either way, the trust isn’t there anymore.
Why is it always to big successful people that do stuff like this? Do they think they are not going to get caught? It's even more disturbing that this has been going on for years, too.
jirard has known that the money wasn't getting sent to charities for about two years or more. i don't think it's incompetence or ignorance. all of the officers of his open hand organization are his family members. plus the way they did not itemize their expenses and instead just listed it as lump sum definitely gives charity fraud vibes. also didn't jirard say he took money out of the account to reimburse himself? that's literally charity fraud lol

I've been donating money to the open hand foundation since 2019 and hearing. What has come out? I just don't know how to feel. I just want my money to be donated to help people with dementia
Best to donate directly to these causes rather than through middlemen like UA-camrs because there's always a risk they could be scammers.
UA-camrs could set it up so all donations go straight to the causes rather than to them so it's important to check before donating. If it just goes to the UA-camr don't donate and instead donate directly to the cause they claim that money is supposed to be donated to.
I work in medical field, not a doctor or anything but I still have to know a lot about diagnosis and medicine. 2014 until now is a pretty critical year for Alzheimer’s research. A lot of brand new medications just came out this year, like LEQEMBI shot and it probably took them long time to be researched. There is really no excuse.
Usually, when someone gets exposed for scamming people, they always take the money and… you know, spend it for their personal gain. I find it weird that it’s just been sitting there for that long and think it might just be very poor mismanagement. I’m a huge fan of Jirard and I do hope he can take accountability for this. He’s never been in any controversy before, so let’s hope he can do what’s right asap.

Also, He knew the money was sitting there and still made more charity lives, saying it was going to other sources when he knew it wasn’t. He admitted that he knew the money was sitting there in 2022, without any of it being donated. Those are words he said. It would be crazy for that to be true seeing as he is one of the heads of the charity & would be one of the ones who voted where the money goes, but let’s just believe him. He then said at the 2023 indieland (a year after he said he knew about no donations given) & specifically named organizations that he said the open hand foundation has donated to & worked with. A straight up LIE based on what we have since heard him say in the call with Karl. Not only is it a lie, but it is charity fraud.
Dudes content was always pretty boring but I supported him because he seemed like an awesome human. Hope he goes to jail.
Jirard hasn't been in any controversy before? I suppose you weren't present back in 2015 when Greg, Jirard's best friend, suddenly left The Completionist. Apparently they had some kind of falling out and it was a huge deal within the community. It happened overnight, and for a year and a half, Jirard refused to give an explanation as to what happened. To this day, we only have Jirard's side of the story and Greg was painted as the bad guy. But given this current event, with Jirard lying about raising money for charity, who knows what else he's been lying about.
I personally just donate to my local charity’s for animal shelters or toys for tots. I’ve never trusted any UA-camr with any responsibility like this. So whenever I see a donation thing on anyone’s channel I just ignore it and move along.
I'm glad i didn't have to say it. TFT is one of the only charities i trust is using the charity we give them for what its supposed to be used for

When you list 100k in "Expenditures" but don't itemize what those expenditures are, you open yourself up to people's assumption that you may be pocketing the money. That's WHY you explain what those expenditures are, it's the WHOLE reason for it. They have no room whatsoever to tell people they shouldn't be assuming they aren't pocketing it, when they've done nothing to prove otherwise.

im sure his lawyers are advising him to not say anything until they can spin something into a statement that clears him and his family/company of any legal wrong doing. he will lose his credibility as a content personallity but if i had to guess they will avoid legal trouble somehow

To be honest, as a fan of Jirard's work, I'm quite disappointed. I understand if it was a simple mistake or if he forgot for just one day, but for how long this charity money has been sitting undonated to any charity whatsoever, i'm not surprised the IRS got involved.
charity is a tricky endeavor and this is why i don't donate to em. If i don't directly see my money going into a direction i start to get suspicious.
A big clarification, no one has PROVEN that the money wasn't pocketed. They just say to the IRS that it hasn't been pocketed, there aren't bank statements to prove one way or the other that no money has been stolen.
At best it's pure incompetence. The dude knew even after finding out by both men in 2021 that it was just sitting there and still lied about it. Even if the money is still in the account it was there under his knowledge as he was the director of the whole organization.

There may not at this point be proof that someone pocketed the money but their “Expenses” on the tax forms is a little suspect. One year around $29,000 the next year $11,000 & its all just listed as a blanket “Expenses” not specifically what the “Expenses” are. If they are just holding the money in a bank account & nothing is being done with it what are these “Expenses” for? Then saying they couldnt decide who to give the money to but telling donators that they were supporting various charities.

I doubt it’s mismanagement considering it should’ve been resolved years ago. Most businesses and charities I see are quick on their feet when mismanagement is present and they always resolve the issue instantly. I’d say the Completionist is just trying to raise the interest of the charity money for his own personal gain, then when the time is right, sneak out from his secret exit door with all the funds in his pocket. Not to mention that according to his Discord call with Mutahar and Jobst, the Completionist’s clearly in panic mode as he starts digging that rabbit hole with excuses for not donating the money without realizing he’s raising more red flags to both Mutahar and Jobst, even towards the audience with common sense. So, he’s likely committing charity fraud for his own selfish greed, except pushing it too far by using his mother’s name for the reasoning of his charity scam.
People need to stop blindy following big UA-camrs, especially with their money.

I hear everybody talking about the money in the account, we do not have proof that the money is in the account, it’s on their tax sheet, and he says it is but prove it… I’m going to bed that they do not have all of that money in the account, no way it was just sitting there
I google this, so I don't know how accurate this is, but Jirard could be facing 10 years in prison for this. I grew out of him awhile ago, but it still sucks to see one of my favourite creators from my teen years doing this.

Even if he's never touched the money his credibility in running a charity is shot. The best he can do is simply donate the money. And if he wants to do any sort of charity work, they need to go through features like the charity feature on twitch, or on youtube. So it never passes through him and it keeps the trail clean. This is gross negligence at best.
I have done 3 fundraisers of my own. This looks horrible for them all. You cant tell me with a straight face you cant find a benefactor after all this time. Forget that! The team i worked with raising money for autism awareness were incredibly hurt to see this. We talked specifically mentioned completionist as a good influence on charitable content creators since we had such a large stream team the past 2 years ive partnered with my group. Very disappointed. Always do your research on people folks, even if you think they are on the up and up.

I know Saint Jude’s that helps kids with cancer helps streamers set up everything and money goes directly to them. It’s always super sus to me when UA-camrs and streamers set up a nonprofits to donate.

UA-camrs and streamers have to run their channels, running a nonprofit is no joke. They don’t have time for that.
Even if it’s true all the money is still in the account, depending on the type of account it potentially could’ve accrued a fair amount of interest in this time. So it’s possible someone has been profiting off the charity even if all the donations are still there

If he actually hasn't spent any of the money and assuming he is able to provide some ironclad proof that his use of the funds wasn't malicious, I believe he should be court ordered to pay an accountant of the courts choosing to straighten out all the paperwork, find any malicious activity, and be ordered to continue employing that accountant for a long period of time for quarterly audits. I say this because I really believe he's just incompetent, though that assumes the money really is there. I think he really did jump into the deep end before he took swimming lessons, so to speak, though I believe at this point if that's the case then action is required to make sure he can continue to run the charity (as I believe the charity is actually meant to do what it says) with proper oversight, at his own expense. Shutting it all down would be too easy and wouldn't teach him anything, a fine is pointless as it doesn't prevent or rectify anything if the cash is still there.

For non profits only a simple summary is available to the public... once you hit Certain number of employees or money raised you have to give more information to the public including your highest paid employees salaries. Nonprofits taxs are very diffrent then indiviual or corporate taxs. The Expenses are runing the website as well as sponsors donations for the events should be entered in as a donation then expensed out so there is a record for the sponsor to claim thier donation on thier taxs for the write off. The real issue is the not giving the money to anyone.
Best case scenario, which still doesn't look good, Jirard was just busy playing too many video games and completely forgot about the charity money or didn't ever check to see if it was ever donated. At which point, that is just being lazy which isn't the worst case scenario, but still not a good look
