If portrait editing is something you do regularly you might want to check out Skylum's newly announced portrait editing software. It's aimed at professionals though so it's not going to be right for everyone. You can find out more here: bit.ly/ApertyPortrait Please note they've only got a limited number of pre-release licences available. I also did a video about it here: ua-cam.com/video/geT97U7ZEtU/v-deo.html
Believe me Anthony, you are doing a great job with educating us all and my photography is improving as a result. Keep up the good work. Many thanks indeed.
Landscapes gets my vote. I've used luminosity masks in PS for years and am excited to see this feature come to Luminar Neo. Can't wait to start using them for my edits in Neo.
Landscape all the way. Very excited about this new feature.
Great tutorial Anthony. I have to say this latest upgrade to Luminar has really taken things to a new level.
Absolutely agree!
Amazing as always Anthony, landscape for the win please 😊
Great explanation - really looking forward this release.....Landscapes please for the next one!
Landscape for me please. Yes, luminosity masks are really a game changer for Neo
simpler to just crop at the bottom of the R elbow. Generally splitting of the hands on these types of poses allows for more emphasis to be on the mask of the face so that the hands are not larger than that mask. Nicely toned down hands. Lots of good stuff to learn in this module. Thanks as usual AT. Oh, forgot to mention, Jim has advised that this update will be included for all users of NEO. Glad I get another one for my original NEO purchase.
No worries. Good feedback as always. 😀 Yes I had a double check on this too and was pleased to see it's a free universal update for all.
Landscape! 😍😍😍
Love the little blooper at the end, Anthony. 😄 You've really opened my eyes on what you can do with luminosity masks! To think I've been missing this technique all these years. Your next video? Landscapes of course! I would also love if you could compare the effectiveness of luminosity masks vs HDR Merge.
Thanks Carl. I'll be away for 5 weeks but I've pre-recoeded a few vids to upload while I'm travelling. Thanks for the vote on landscapes! Oh, and also sticking around until the end of the video! That's why I occasionally add the bloopers just as a little reward for those that stay till the end 🙂
Landscapes gets my vote too.
Real estate gets my vote, please!! Thank you very much for your excellent classes
Landscapes for sure
Landscape, will use it. Would like it for wildlife , birds, flowers
Thanks Anthony, great video. Would love Landscape please
best luminar tutorials, very best of the best
Landscapes gets my vote
Hi Anthony, I just got the new NEO update today. Yippie! Regards from Felix the Cat. 😸
I like to see the use of luminosity for landscape photo
Finally I understand luminosity masking, thank you. Landscapes please.
Landscape please. I am definitely gonna give this tool a try.
Great tutorial, Landscapes next please !
Landscape next, please!
I vote for real estate first 😎
Real Estate!!! Thanks for sharing.
I think I'll be using quite a lot in my work flow moving forward. Looks like an awesome masking tool! Can't wait!
Thanks a lot for this video. Very interesting indeed. Would really appreciate you to focus on landscapes next
Great vid again....landscapes best for me too
Landscape photography
Thanks for that Anthony, very informative as usual. I can't wait to get my hands on this latest version of Neo. My preference would be a tutorial on landscape, however architecture would also be fine. Thanks.
Really useful as usual. I would like to use them on landscapes please. 😁
Thank you Anthony, this is going to be amazing to use, well done Luminar Neo team👏 Anthony I would love to see you use this on landscape photography. Thank you again mate👍😎
Thank you Anthony for your explaining. I would prefer landscape for the next Tutorial 😊
Great video Anthony, thanks for sharing. Landscapes next :D
Landscape is my choice. Thank you for these clear explanations. Obviously these luminosity masks will be a great help to improve photos.
Excellent tutorial Anthony, landscape.
Thanks Anthony. Great explanation.
Landscape, also thank you for the video learning all the time.
Thank you, can’t wait to give masking a try.
I'm here for it!
Most useful video!
Excellent tutorial. I am interested in both real estate and landscape, but my vote is for landscape first. Being that I have only used Skylum products, this is the first I have seen of luminosity masking. I will certainly be exploring this method. Thanks.
Brilliant !
Great tutorial. Landscapes gor me!
Landscape!!!
Landscape, great video btw.
I'm sorry I went off subject a little but I'm sure it would exciting for Luminar users.
Haha, all good. All comments and thoughts are welcomed and greatly appreciated
Remember I suggested it
...very good...yes can't wait for the new version ....landscape please
BIG NEWS! Skylum has just launched a summer sale where you can save a massive 81% off Luminar Neo here bit.ly/NeoSale But the cool thing is in addition to that they've given me a coupon code to share with you so you get to save ANOTHER 20% (use code AFF-T5C1C0 ) I really hope that helps you out! It should work for both the perpetual licence and the subscription too. Enjoy😄 Best wishes, Anthony
Brilliant Anthony, I just got the V1.19 update and so far so good, but I can't understand why Luminar have so many repeats of Noise Reduction, 3 in total if you have Noise A1 !
Definitely Landscapes.
Landscape please Anthony.
I vote for landscape. This will push Neo where we all wanted it to be I think. I have a lot of re -edits to go through lol.
Landscape, please! :-)
I already use luminosity masks in Affinity and in the Nik collection(aka U points) so definitely will be using them in Neo too.
I'd love to see how you use them in blending a landscape please.
Landscape thanks Anthony
Landscape please. Yes, will be using all the new features in the upgraded version but luminosity masks, in particular.
Landscape please!
Real estate, please sir. I've been having to switch to a different software or stuck painstakingly hand masking window pull for years. If this is able to do what I think it can for RE Photography, this is going to save hours in the editing room.
Thank you for the tutorial. Landscapes, please.
Landscape please
Landscape please Anthony. I will be using the luminosity mask once I get the update. Thank you.
Heya Anthony! Thanks for all the great content! I'd love to see how the new Neo compares to Lumenzia for REAL ESTATE photography.
Specifically for exposure blending? Or a complete workflow, Neo vs Lr+PS+lumenzia?
Very good video. Landscapes please.
I was wondering this morning why they have not included camera tethering in Luminar Neo, while other photo editors have included it in their programs, like Adobe and Capture One.
I'm sure that is not a big deal for them, but then we could take and edit our photos without using other programs.
true, true. Perhaps that's something for a future update
Landscape, please. Thank you
Thanks for the video. I use Neo exclusively but, I don't know why, I'm finding it quite confusing as more and more tools arrive. Vote for the landscapes on the luminosity front.
Hmmm, yes it's a fine line Skylum are walking, adding features to appease the demands of the photographic community whilst trying to keep it clean and simple to use. Just stick with it, focus on learning one thing at a time and don't get overwhelmed. 😃
Nice - and very helpful. I can't wait to unpack this new toy.
- I've been using Supercontrast and the Color balance tool in Color Harmony to do some SIMILAR processing - but this will be a lot more powerful and logical.
- Seems like a couple of the last situations would have been great for object select mode? (Like the bit of shirt.)
- I'm in camp landscape.
The object select is great, but it has a pretty hard edge. So although it looks like a shape of white fabric, the subtle darker tonal shift towards the edges would likely have resulted in a halo/fringe.
Landscapes!
Landscape please. Thanks
landscape
Landscapes please. Thanks
Landscape first please!
Excellent video is thes tool a free upgrade or behind a pay wall also do a Landscape video next please have a amazing day 🤗🤗🤗
Hi. Yes they're free to anyone who's bought luminar Neo or is on the subscription plan! The new tools are part of update 1.19 due April 25.
Landscape Please...
Landscape.
Landscape please....
Thank you for this detailed explanation, landscapes would be my favourite…
When you close the luminosity mask and open it up again, will it start as a fresh new mask and thus overlap the first luminosity mask you created (like the gradient masks) or will it just be where you left off and let you refine your original settings? Thank you for your answer 🙏🙂
Good question! It adds to the initial mask. If you want to start fresh you need to clear the mask. This is the beta version I'm using so it's possible this may change.
@@AnthonyTurnham Thank you for the fast reply!
Landscape and I will definitely be using it. Does using it get rid of the pink when I overexpose? I'll see.
Hi Kim. The pink? Do you mean the over exposed highlight warning? Pressing j on your keyboard toggles this on and off. But, yes, you can use this approach to correct overexposed images. Best done with a bracketed set.
Landscape
When will we see this update become available?
25th April. Not long now 😀
On the skylum site in What's new it says May 4, 2024 for Luminar Neo v1.19 so is the new update coming out on May 4?
Hmmmm, perhaps they've pushed the release date back!
Landscapes
Landscape please :)
Amazing! 🤔 Do you think Luminar can replace the Tk9 nd Lumenzia for either nature or architecture post...? ( yes the panels come with many other features for sure.... but I use them mainly and only for the luminosity masks...) cheers! & thanks!
Tbh Lumenzia is still going to give more control, BUT, most people won't need the subtleties that those panels offer. Lumenzia has also updated to include some very accurate colour selection options now too!

can you pls explain where to get the develop raw camera profiles, I can only see default luminar profile, thank you
I put this video together on it: ua-cam.com/video/7JFjFyotHpE/v-deo.html
This demo was a bit too fast. A tad slower Anthony please to help us less technical people. Landscape definitely gets my vote. Many thanks for this. Really appreciate how you make us aware of these more sophisticated adjustments.
Thanks for the feedback. It's a hard line to walk with the pacing. To slow and many get bored and leave, too fast and it may not be fully understood. I'm always trying to find that sweet spot.
Landscape please! I am on the purchase outright plan for Luminar, does that mean I will get this forthcoming update, or is it subscription only?
These updates should apply to all users, both subscribers and owners of ghe program. (As far as I understand it!)
My copy says it is up to date at version 1.18.2. Any guess as to the reason?
Yes, release date was initially 25th April but may have been pushed back to Star Wars day. I mentioned in the top pinned comment but should have been more clear in the video.
I tried Luminar Neo and didn't like it at all. I believe sincerely that I could do what you have accomplished here just as well, faster, and free with Silver Efex Pro 2. I think Neo does some things well but does not do so consistently,
Thanks for sharing. Yes, I'm a big fan of Silver Efex and ColorEfex too. I know they were free for a while when Google owned them but alas, since DxO took over they're a paid software too.
Landscapes please
Landscape pls
Landscape please.
Landscape Please
I vote for real estate
Landscapes for me please
LANDSCAPE
Fantastic tutorial. You made luminosity masks completely understandable. I vote for landscapes next.
I launch Luminar Neo and it says I have the version 1.18.3 and that is the current version. I went to the Skyrim website and can only download v 1.18.
The launch for this update was 25th April. Have you run the update? Hopefully you're up and running now :)
