  • Will Islam become the largest religion in Europe? This race bar chart will get you one step closer to be able to answear the question. The race bar chart and the map are both based on data and projections published by highly reliable and independent sources.
    Data sources:
    Pew Research Center
United Nations Population Division, Department of Economic and Social Affairs
Muslim Population in Europe 1950-2020, by Houssain Kettani, Dakota State University

    Patriotic Man, by Kadir Demir

About the data: Cyprus' Muslim populaton is based on estimated 18 percent of the total population until 1974. Kettani is in general used for data from 1950 up to 2010, Pew Reseach Center for present day data and projections.
All population estimates is based on data from UN (medium population growth projections), with one exception: Pew Reseach Center had significant higher population datas than the UN for most Western countries in the high migration scenario (Einstein-fact: High immigration results into a higher population), so for the high migration scenario, I have calculated a population out of Pew's scenario data. Using UN's data for the high migration scenario would have resulted into a misleading presentation with a far higher density of Muslims than suggested by Pew Research Center.
A method simulating exponential growth is used in the interpolations between the datapoints.
For aesthetic reasons, these microstates are given the same color as their closest neighbour: Holy See, Monaco, San Marino, Andorra and Liechenstein.
