I was dead set on the G4 but reading one of your replies there has switched me to this one. Now I'm fully considering getting this Z1
+TheSamuraiRonin lol well to further make your headache a little consider the G4S too which I reviewed recently. Soooo much better than the G4 was. If you have a Hero4 Silver I would currently say it just edges the Z1 Evolution thanks to no locks to clunk against, full 360 rotation and a very nice included case. If you are a Hero4 black and require an LCD backpack to view the output then the G4S is off the table as you can't mount it with a backback attached.... Performance between them both is very very close.
Well thank you!!! lol. Nah Initially I had a budget below 200$ then I upped it to 255$ for G4 then I upped it again to 290$ for Z1. I don't think I can up it to 500$ !!

at the 7:05 min mark my camera does not stay horizontal, it just starts to turn by itself until lens of camera is facing upwards towards the ceiling????
I have just purchased this one, and I can't wait to fiddle around with it using my Hero3+. I have experienced, though, that you shouldn't mount the camera too tight to the tilt axis motor, because the WiFi button on the camera will be pressed. Also you have to either unmount the camera to press the WiFi button, or loosen the screws and push the entire camera into the tilt axis motor to get the WiFi button pressed. Also the tilt axis motor will cover up the side microphone, but I don't know if that makes any difference.

nice product but the Feiyu G4s thats coming out in Oct 15 plugs straight in to the gopro av socket so no need for loose cables.

good review, thanks. I use an older style lcd backpac (silver colour - maybe hero2 era) which works fine with the Hero4 black believe it or not. I'm guessing as it's the same dimensions that it would fit into this gimbal? Those longer screws look like a good idea.
I agree with everything that you said in this video. I had my Z1 Evolution for about 2 weeks now. I love it, to me it is better than the Feiyu G4. The motors are way stronger. I had the G4 since beginning of this year and i Had tilting issues with it even after multiple calibrations. When I first turned the Z1 evo on, it took about 10-15 sec to level itself and in the user manual they mentioned to calibrate it before you turn it on because the temperature change during shipping may have affected the gimbal. After I did the "Off line" calibration, everything was good to go. I would turn on the gimbal and it would automatically be level without waiting more than 2 seconds.
Jin Thor Thanks Jin. Glad it wasn't just me finding this. The fact it works itself out and/or you can calibrate it is so good though. Really impressed with it so far. Off to China later this year so will give it a proper international test!
Any ideas where I can get my Z1 Evolution repaired? I had a motor failure on mine.

+0x5347 I can help you on that.... Z1 Tiny 2 hands down no questions. Blows the Mini3D out of the water by a long way as far as all my testing has shown me. The only comprimise is if you don't have a rail mount system on your quad.

Do you know if Zhiyun have any plans to introduce a joystick type control to the Z1-Rider2 hand control? I do a lot of driving through countryside and it would be great to be able to pan around and include some scenery footage with the 'on the road' footage.
This cannot work without camera? I wanted to try if that is working but when I turned it on without camera I can hear some strange noises .... and a lot of vibration of my gimble. Is it possible that I can dmg it if's it's working without camera? Just wanted to test it if it's working...
How do you put the gimbal in inverse mode? Like when you're walking and holding it upside down

I bought one last week and it arrived yesterday. I am absolutely delighted with both the accessories and the high-quality finish and look of the product. I have a few videos on UA-cam but they're not as good as I would have liked which is why I decided to 'Go Pro'. ;) I have a question for you and it's this; I have downloaded the latest firmware (v1.43) and wanted to make sure there are no known 'issues' with the update before I apply it.

azzurripro Doubt he's going to do one this late on, as he'll have found it's no better. I had the 4 ball, got rid of it. Got the 6 ball, no obvious difference. Got rid of that too. Hoping they bring out a Mk#3, hopefully more like the Z1 Tiny2 with compression balls instead of too soft hanging balls.

Excellent video. This is a standard of appraisal sadly lacking in 90% of UA-cam "reviews". Do you have any update points to make? I'll check your channel to see if you covered the Evolution and what features each have as I can't see a side by side table of the Pround and Evolution features. The Evolution is £90.00 dearer than the Pround here in the UK and I'd like to know if the price differential is worth it Thanks.

+Tech With Coffee Horizon issue hasn't been a problem for me on this. You are wise to re-calibrate it once in a while if you have been bumping it around... bit of a pain but doable without the software at least if you can memorise the sequence. Later firmwares have come out since the review and they seem to be consistant in improving things too. I still rate this as the best GoPro based handheld right now but the Feiyu-Tech G4s is looking strong too.

take it this gimbal does not allow the camera to rotate 360 degrees on both axis and not touch the body of the gimbal? I recently bought the feiyu g4 360 and whilst it has similar features i notice it has a tendency to drift off to the side and also the horizon can tilt..Thinking of sending that one back in favour of this one..
Hi friend,this is rotate parameters of EVO,it won't touch the body of the gimbal:
Tilt axis mechanical movement range 270°
Roll axis mechanical movement range 90°
Pan axis mechanical movement range 320°

Hey Dewey, I was wondering if you could control the speed of the pan and tilt with the joystick or is it going to pan ad tilt at the same speed regardless of how much intensity you put put when you move the joystick. Thank you for this review
Yep the joystick has a really smooth range of motions... slow subtle movement results in exactly that, a fast heavy push results in a fast motion.

do you do any post production after filming? or is it only gimbal stabilization? Can you give us an update on the product too so we know its reliable and has some longevity to it?
+Shiva.R No post production done in terms of stabilisation Shiva.... Everything you see is just the gimbal doing its thing. In terms of reliability this thing is standing up to the test of time really well. Battery life is strong, construction is bullet proof.

Great great video. Im thinking of up grading my g4s gimbal (as its buggy as hell) to this as I love the fact that this can take a back pack. I've been thinking of getting a REMOVU A1+M1 blue tooth mic for it it has a backpack in order to work, do you think it would work with this gimbal ?

One more question! I can't find anyone info on this, so I have a Feiyu Tech g4s as well, i like the shorter handle that it has. My Z1 arrived today and I've noticed that it doesn't work without the extension tube. I don't understand why there is an option not to use it if it doesn't work without it. Any idea if there is a battery you can buy thats double the power of the ones that come with it so that the shorter handle option can be used. Any advice would be amazing thanks again

+Zino Productions I had the same issue same like your gimble, calibrate it with your computer using zhiyun app it will solve your problem hopefully. My gimble is working well now after calibrating

You told us its possible to use the gopro with the BacPack, so i guess the lcd +hero3+ will work out?
How about the case? I'd like to take GoPro and the Gimple up to the slopes an Ski with it. Is there a way to use ist in Snow (waterproof)?
+3Stefan7 Hero3 and LCD is no problem but not the waterproof case. Still real good 3 axis option fro gimbals. There is a company developing one that is in touch with me for advice but that is a long way off and i fear they will miss the boat soon as the next GoPro will almost certainly be like the session in terms of 'always waterproof'.

+3Stefan7 Will do. I am hoping to get a sample if they do create one but I will keep an ear to the ground too. The problem is more how to keep the gimbal waterproof than making one with the waterproof housing to be honest. I would guess the best you can hope for is 'snow proof' rather than totally waterproof but you never know. Brushless motors are water proof by design so that is start for them.
Keeping the gimbal waterproof is the hard part, i agree on this. but snowproof would be enough for me :) But if you could keep us update id appreciate it ! thanks you!

Im about to buy a gimbal for my go pro hero 4 black. I can't decide whether to get this one or the G4S?? Which would you say is a best all rounder? Would you say either is better at keeping the horizon without having to adjust it and is either one more stable?
I know the G4S has the fixed USB port which isn't ideal but I don't really use an LCD back on my go pro black.
My only concern is whether or not go pro will move the USB port on future models making the G4S unusable??
What would you suggest???

+Stu Rida Hi Stu. Very tough one to call to be honest. I've had no reason to fault either in terms of horizon lock. Something makes me feel the Evo is ever so slightly better due to a more comprehensive calibration method (which is a ball ache to remember if not using a computer) but that is also being a bit harsh on the G4S too because i've not noticed sag or glitching so far. I have a plan to do a video testing the two 1 v 1 in a fair environment but that won't be for a while yet.
A few people have mentioned concerns with future GoPro re-designs but there given they are creating their own quadcopter and most multi-rotor manufacturers are using their own cameras (hence no reliant on GoPro) then I would be staggered if the new Hero isn't a dramatic form factor change, micro USB etc.... that only of course makes your gimbal obsolete if you sell your perfectly amazing 4k ready H4 Black. You also have the option if you are going to sell the H4Black to bundle it with the G4S for more money for new items! :)
Personally I think if GoPro announced a new camera like today then Feiyu, Zhiyun and anyone making gimbals would likely react buy creating a new mounting bracket and firmware that balances the IMU's based on the cameras weight. Note on the G4S that the rear cradle is held on with a simple 2 bolt setup.... maybe for that very reason (speculation but it would make total economical sense as it'd mean more money longer down the road).
Any with that speculation put to one side I am currently suggesting a G4S if you own a H4 Silver (or if, like you, the LCD isn't a need) and for all others the Z1 Evolution more on necessity than quality.

You made some good points and I think I will be going for the G4S. I was just thinking longer term to save me having to swap gimbals for the sake of a USB port but like you said I would hope Feiyu would account for this if anything major changed.
Do you have any compare summary of Zhiyun Z1, Feyiu G4S (or G5), Lanparte LA3D ? I am going to buy the gimbal, but I don't know, which one will be the best choice and which one have the best stabilization for gopro.
My money would be on the Z1 Evolution personally. It has the best stabilisation and so far Zhiyun has really impressed me with everything they have made.
With that being said if the money is there I would buy the Zhiyun Smooth 4 with a GoPro bracket (review coming soon). You won't use all the features with a gopro mounted but it is sooooo much better than these older gimbals, massive baterry life and gives you the option of using your phone instead of course.
But I am not sure that Zhiyun Smooth 4 has range of movements enough with GoPro bracket?
I can buy in the same price:
- Zhiyun Rider-M,
- Zhiyun Z1 Rider 2
- Feyiu-Tech g5 v2.
Mudular construction is Zhiyun advantage, but Feyiu has better range of movements.
However the most important for me is stabilization, which I will see on my recordings (mainly travels, mountain trips, running). I saw a lots of videos on youtube, but It is very hard to perceive difference - so I have to ask someone who has experience with them. Could you write something more? Which one is the best? I will be very gratefull :)
did they do a firmware update to fix the horizon problem?
+Gavin Hope I kept up to date with the firmware and never have any problems with the horizon. To be honest I don't think it was the FW that caused it, I just needed to do the calibration better and you can also then manually tweak it yourself. It maintains being very locked in now.

how noisy are the motors on this thing? I bought a FT G3 Ultra and found the noise unbearable, it's ruined most of my recordings and I've complained to the seller who has agreed to replace it. However im consider paying a little extra and going for the Z1 Evo

I bought one and the motor was very quite and smooth
but it's seems to loose balence sometimes
BeeSA I am sorry to heard that.You can put it in a horizontal position,turn on it and wait about 10 minute,and then turn off,and open it again.If after that it doesn't work well, please connect to your computer, calibration and upgrade the firemware.

i Dewey, i experienced a terrible efect with z1 evo, when i walk with the gimbal and next i see the imagens on PC , i see the button image a effect like a ride on camel, i contact zhiyun and tell me is the gopro4 silver problem, i use the same cam on tiny 2 on my hands and no see this effect, have anything i can do to improove this ?
if i run i no see this efect, only when i walk.

Hi David, I've stumbled upon your channel while looking for gimbal reviews and so far your videos are the most knowledgeable. I just wanted to get your opinion on what you would recommend for my needs. I'm looking to buy a gimbal for my go pro3+. I do quite a bit of drifting and motorsports so I want a reliable gimbal that can handle being on the outside of a moving vehicle travelling 200kmh. needs to be able to mount to a good suction cup and preferably have a travel case. what would you recommend? cheers mate
chijax1 Tricky one really. I've had my Feiyu-Tech G4 out of my Impreza STi window at 80 but wind resistance after that throws it out. I don't think anyone makes one that will hold up to those speeds without significant wind protection (like a bubble around it).
Next review will be the Z1 Rider 2 but I've heard that isn't rated much past 30mph (tests will see). The issue is as much the Hero as it is the gimbal because, lets face it, its not exactly aerodynamic!
I've noticed that they are now using gimbals on TT and Superbike motorcycle racing but they are protected by the rider from airflow and are likely pro grade too.
So the choice really comes down to the Rider 2 or the Feiyu-Tech WG (not got one of these yet but have asked).
You would then use a GoPro suction mount and experiment a bit.
Other things to consider are the reaction time of the gimbal too. I've been playing with the Rider 2 in the Impreza and it is quite slow to react to yaw changes (so when you turn a corner it slowly comes round). For drifting that might be a good thing as it shows extreme angle changes but flicking the car around a lot might freak it out a bit.
I am hoping the Hero4 session form factor will last a while and people will create around it. That would be far better for you as it is at least protected a bit more than a raw Hero4 in a gimbal and a bit better aerodynamically... just needs better picture quality!
So yes all in all nothing out there specifaclly that I know will work for you but enough out there to try. I'll do some agressive cornering in the Impreza with the Rider 2 and see how it copes.

I went out testing the Rider 2 the other day. Sadly traffic dictated that real 'fun' driving couldn't happen. It seems to be pretty good so far. It seems like it doesn't lock the horizon perfectly but it might be by design... still playing around with it. I think an internal shot from the rear window or roll cage would make for a really fun shot while drifting as the car will be so sideways that the gimbal won't keep up so the viewer will see just how side on you get.... same sort of view you'd get as a passenger if you tried to focus on where the car 'was' heading before the drift. Well worth an investment just to play about with it i reckon!
d3weyTube I'm very interested in your findings re the velocity tolerance of the Z1-Rider2 as I would like to mount a gimbal to the outside of my car. Ideally, I'd like the gimbal to withstand speeds up to 70/80mph for video shooting. I'd read that the motors in the Rider2 were the equivalent to the Z1-Evolution .. I know the firmware is. Your thoughts?

Great video, just purchased this. Thanks for responding to my other comment, I was 5 minutes away from buying the Feiyu. You should add affiliate links to Amazon, why not make a few dollars? Also as you mentioned about support, at least we can buy through Amazon which gives you a little extra protection but agree with your thoughts about support. Some companies in China are useless when nobody on staff can speak English.

+d3weyTube arrived today, pretty awesome. Watching this again. I calibrated, seems good but a little tricky when walking and turning right or left. Seems like when I go left, it will stay straight or turn the opposite direction.
+Alex & Erika | Travel Vlogs It takes a bit of getting used to but remember that if you need it to follow you sharper round a corner that you can always twist your wrist in that direction more aggressively than your body... this will make the gimbal pan faster than normal and you will learn to get that in time with your motion.
It turning in the opposite direction shouldn't be possible unless your wrist is turning that way too?
Yes, after I posted and viewed your video again it was easy to navigate by turning my wrist. This thing is "Brilliant". Going to shoot some sample video today.

tulsacorporatevideo There are a number of ways you could go about doing it. I personally have a monopod (1 legged tripod) that extends about 3 feet, is telescopic and just about light enough to use but a bit heavy fully extended.

Painters pole would work well and it looks like you can buy a converter that changes the larger thread of the painters pole down to a 1/4" tripod thread: www.amazon.com/ProPole-Painters-Adapter-Camera-Monopod/dp/B00EVWS1JK/ref=pd_sim_sbs_421_1 (bit expensive for what it does).
Bear in mind at 6-12 feet away that is going to be really quite hard to hold for a long time but you will be able to get quite dynamic shots.
I just got mine yesterday. Charged batteries over night. This morning no lights on charger were on and it won't power up device. Please advise. Thank you
tulsacorporatevideo Assume you've put the 2 batts both in and the extension part too (it won't turn on with only 1 batt). If so have you checked battery voltages with a multimeter? Should be around the 3.7- 4v mark fully charged. If not then it may simply be the charger died on you. If so I'd contact Amazon directly and report it. They will no doubt replace the charger. You could also just replace the charger with a new one if it proves to be that being the problem.

+SergeY Nekhaev - I am just using the Hero4 silver in that footage.... the only difference is I am not using the S-Wide mode. I am using the wide mode though. The thing to remember with 'fish eye' is that it depends on what you are shooting. It is always worse close up and even worse when tilting the camera down (as you can see the bend on the horizon). It is a manageable problem when shooting :)

Glad you found the review useful. Batteries are easily obtained via retailers like amazon. They are 18650 2000mah 3.7v - lots of options on there with differing capacity 18.3mm diameter x 66mm long but I believe all 18650 batts are that size.

+Steel Riding Hi Steel - Yes you can see what you are filming when using the LCD backpac screen. The rear motor is always slightly in the way but you can still see enough to frame your shot nicely.
whats the difference between this and the Zhiyun Pround?
+j1 command Pround has buttons rather than the joystick and the IMU's and internals are not as 'recent'. The Evolution is quite literally as it says.... an Evolution of the Pround product.

Is any 3 axis hand held gimbal compatible with Sjcam m20?
Honest answer is I cannot be sure. I don't own a m20 so don't have a way to test. As long as the form factor is the same as the hero 3/4 then it should at least fit and weight won't be too much of an issue. Sadly something that can't be confirmed without testing so sorry about that.

People please help, I purchased 18350 for Z1 Evelution but it does not fit, I can't close the cover( i am trying without the extension tube ) anybody face this?
I did not buy the Zhiyun brand but I don't think there is different.
Note: It works fine with the 18650 but I want to have a shorter gimbal.

Do not hold a battery that way, mate. It will be shorted.
Dude they're bolts, not nuts or screws and you need to learn that one "tilts" down/up not pan... think of a frying pan which is left and right across the horizon. Hard to take someone seriously if they don't know what they're talking about. As to the vertical axis (or "bounce" as you seem to make up your own terms) that is just your poor operation and you need to learn how to hold the unit and flex your arm. The problem is your 'stiff arm' grip. If you operate the device as if you were holding a spoon of water in your hand then you would learn compensate for the vertical axis motion as we Steadicam Operators already know how to do.
