Vera, you need to watch the version of Tokyo Festival that he recorded in his own studio at home during the pandemic and the version he upoladed some days ago. I think they are even more powerful than this version... You will love it for sure! Hugs from Brazil!
Dear Vera, I am sure that all Dimash fans adore you for your sincere and direct reactions, this is your charm. You asked for the history of the song. It is sung on behalf of a soldier drafted into the army and going to the front during the First World War. She is full of sadness about parting with her beloved homeland, maybe forever. Kazakhstan has very weak harvests due to the climate and soil, I had to go there, albeit for a long time. And men at that time were the breadwinners of the family. Therefore, the departure of the head of the family to the front doomed the family to starvation, especially if the family was engaged in agriculture. History says that a little later, 1 million people died of starvation there. For Kazakhstan, this is a lot. You can appreciate the mood of a soldier who sees his native mountains from the train window, maybe for the last time. The song conveys his mood.
This song is beautiful. The sound-scaping created by the qobyz and the rain stick before Dimash joins is pure and natural. It transports us to the Samal mountains and takes us on a journey reflective of the rich Kazakh history. I also love the music Qairan Elim, where Dimash demonstrated (I believe the first time) his directorial chops in addition to his vocal chops.
Thank you! The newest version on Dimash Digital Show 2021. With lyrics. A piece of real, painful story of Kazakhstan history, young Kazakhs forced to leave their homeland and fight a war that was not their war. Forced by Russian empire, Czar, in 1916.
I think if someome wants to know a Dimash song which has different versions, it's better if hears (and watchs) all of them. Each version has different variations in music that may be gives different angles of the song. This one was the first and I love it. The last one is more dramatic and sad but I prefer this arrangement (and the version of Tokyo Jazz Festival)

Vera, you have the gift to immediately put us in a happy mood! But then Dimash makes us sad with his powerful performance - I wouldn't have it any other way!! I absolutely love every one of the versions Dimash has done of this song. Even though he's always so emotionally committed & connected in any language, in Kazakh it seems there is an extra dimension to his emoting. The Tokyo Jazz Festival version is wonderful & sublime, & the Dimash Digital 2021 version is superb; it has added chords, a whole new instrumental melody part, and interaction with the Western instruments in such a cool way. Also, there is a visual effect that you really adds to the drama, you will love it & it will blow your mind!! 🤯🤯
you are absolutely right in your feelings of what the music conveys, the beginning really depicts the snowy snowy steppe and the howling and barking of wolves...the events refer to the times of the First World War, when the Russian tsar issued a decree to mobilize the male population of the Kazakh steppe to the frontlines...the hero describes the pain of saying goodbye to the native land
I liked your description of the sensations you have had listening to this music, I feel fully identified. As always, a great video. Thank you so much Vera !
When Kazakhstan belonged to Russia (In 1916/17, First World War), young Kazakhs were forced, by the Russian Empire, to leave their homes and fight 35 years until their total massacre. The story of one of these young people, who marches in despair to a war that is not his, in addition to the sadness of leaving his parents, elders, with no one to take care of and the certainty that he will never see the mountains ("tau") of Kazakhstan again. this wonderfully sad song! 😓
