Even if he didn’t throw it at Piazza, it’s something you can’t do. You can’t throw a splintered piece of wood ANYWHERE. Also, I wonder what would’ve happened had that happened at Shea. Crowd would have gone absolutely mental!
Benitez looks like Familia, throws like Familia, and blows saves in the ninth inning of World Series games like Familia. I'm not convinced they aren't the same person
7:27 I could not agree more. Looking back on my 15+ years playing baseball, my coach had 7 hitting/stance commands that we all had to abide by. We were literally a whole team of kids with the same stance.
Man, if you been there, there was a roar to the crowd I can't explain especially late in season. Newer Yankee Stadium feels more tourist trappy although it does keep some vibes from the old Stadium and overall doesn't suck, it's definitely different.
Today we learned that TLC's Push It speaks to Jomboy's childhood. And in the 70's it was almost entirely organ music live until the Pirates started playing We Are Family over the loudspeaker and Boston played "Dirty Water" and "Sweet Caroline" around the same time.
Please react to Dock Ellis throwing a no-hitter on LSD. Also, in the 2004 All Star game, Piazza hated catching for Clemens that he apparently told the batters what pitches he was putting down.
Man, people are getting rude in these comments. Great to see another World Series video, really impressive amount of work and time, enjoyed the video a lot. Appreciate that you keep putting them out for us. Keep it up guys. And that's from a Red Sox fan.
On the Benitez yearbook they forgot the 98 brawl he started at the stadium. when you started this viewing at that timestamp, my brain immediately went back to 98... just like it did when I watched this live in 2000. Good sharing good memories, Jimmy and Jake!
living in Oz myself, this was actually the first world series i watched and turned me into the baseball fan i am... They had the replays on in prime time here, first time ever i think : )
Best game ever, this happened on my 11th bday 10/29. I was obsessed with baja beef chalupas from taco bell and my mom rushed out and got food. Opened presents and ate cake, when the game started Jeter hit the 1st pitch out. I jumped up and ran around the house in excitement. Then the Clemens/Piazza at bat occured, what a birthday to remember. Except whatever presents I got, not to sure on that. Always nice to have a bday during the world series.
I was at games 1 & 2! Stadium was electric.. vizcaino was 1st to ballpark morning of game 1, went 4 for 4! Walking out after game 1 I vividly remember hearing somebody say "we just saw one of the best games ever at yankee stadium!" One of the greatest memories of my life to date
I loved him in all the other world series episodes. Here it seems like he got into a bad personal argument with somebody right before and he just doesnt want to be there, incredibly awkward, JB is basically talking to himself
Jake did however carry all the games from 1972 to 1987ish because Jomboy was making no effort to conceal his boredom. Jake is a bona fide baseball fan. Jomboy likes the Yankees but knows almost nothing about baseball history.
Can we get a breakdown on the Clemens pitching/Piazza catching moment from the All Star Game? Clemens got lit up which always made me think Piazza was tipping off all the AL hitters
I was nervous because Mo’s velocity was way down and he had been used a ton this postseason. So, when Piazza hit it to Bernie, I thought it was gone at first.
We were allowed on the field once Bernie made the catch they let the line of photogs on the field. Ill never forget how I felt running out to celebrate with my beloved Yankees.
Thank you fellahs so much for this. After you get through all the WS to 2019, you could go back and revisit those regular season or playoff games that strike your interest. Just a suggestion. Cuz I don't think Baseball will be happening before July.
For Clemens - and I thought of this as it happened and for the life couldn’t understand why it was so hard for any one to comprehend- on contact Roger thought he was fielding the ball and instead came up with the bat head. Being Clemens and somewhat of a duche, he got pissed thinking he was going to get an out and getting out of what was a very uncomfortable and distracting (everyone anticipated this first at bat between the two) situation, he let his emotions get the better of him and he threw it away in frustration. That is why he says he thought it was the ball - he knew he was throwing the bat because it wasn’t the ball he expected. No way he intentionally threw it at Piazza, either. There wasnt anytime for that exchange to happen. All bang-bang and you can clearly see that he threw it in front of him and Piazza trotting towards it made it look closer than intended. Just the media making a much bigger deal out of it for the story.
Roger Clemens is such a ducking punk lmao. Dude chucked a sharp piece of wood at Piazzas direction then said he “thought it was the ball”. There’s no pegging in baseball Roger.
Piazza owned Clemens.. 25 career plate appearances --- .364/.440/.955 with 4 HR's and only 2 K's..... Biggest pile of bs ever spoken with the "I thought it was the ball"
As a lifelong diehard Dominican Yankee fan who always dreamed of a Subway Series I really enjoyed Luis the Atomic Ant Polonia and Vizcaino coming thru for us back to back
This is my best childhood memory. Better than 96, 98 or 99 bc the whole city was into this one. But it's probably the worst memory for everyone else in the rest of the country having two ny teams in the world series. Plus the people that were in ny but were met fans can't like watching this series.
MLB delivered a true fans dream matchup in 2000,, I’d love to have some typical NY baseball fans smack talk for this,, NOBODY can talk poo poo better then a NY fan & I’m a west coast guy!! Can’t wait until the breakdown of 2001 WS, attended 1-2-6 & 7 in the tank fortified Bank One Ballpark. The story lines are endless in arguably the greatest WS ever!!!
28:40 THAT is why you set up in fair territory as a catcher. The ball was on target you just let it travel and he had the out. The catcher set up wrong. This is atrocious that nobody has noticed that.
Actually, that throw to the plate was almost perfect! I was surprised it got there before Posada but the real question is why is Piazza taking the throw in foul ground (*behind* the plate)? If he's standing right at the top corner of the plate in fair ground he has a decent chance of catching that ball and putting the tag on before Posada can touch.
As a Met fan this series still haunts me. People only remember the Yanks winning in 5, but the Mets easily could have won every game. God I hate the Yankees.
Prior to watching the vid, the most important part of the series was Derek Jeter going deep off Bobby Jones to lead off game 3 after the loss in game 2, and David Cone somehow striking out Mike Piazza while throwing 87. That was the last pitch he ever threw as a Yankee, Torre later said he was going to go one more inning with Cone but wanted to pinch hit Conseco for his power (Conseco struck out in that appearance, his only World Series at bat as a Yankee, Conseco hated that the Yankees wouldn’t play him and later sold his Yankees World Series ring. Tbf they only claimed him to keep him away from Boston). However the Yankees would never have even gotten to the World Series if they hadn’t traded for David Justice at the deadline, who carried them at times as the rest of the team ran out of gas at the end of the year. Edit while/after watching: I’d add that Luis Polonia wasn’t just a former Tiger, he was also a former Brave who had been on the wrong end of the Braves 1996 collapse in game 4 against the Yankees, and now was playing for them. This happened with a few different guys over those years. Also Benitez was a perennial headcase, see Albert Belle play mind games with him on that grand slam in 1996, or that crazy fight he got into with the Yankees in 1998 Edit: LOL it looks like Fox backed me up with even more examples of his choking
Man this was my first vivid World Series watching and I didn't understand why Clemens did what he did at the time but yeah now looking back it was because he was roided the fuck all the way to his fucking neck.

Even if he didn’t throw it at Piazza, it’s something you can’t do. You can’t throw a splintered piece of wood ANYWHERE.

It’s New York. There’s just as many yankee fans at the games there.

You can say his pitching was quite Familia.
Those 2000 Yankees limped into the post season and still won. Pretty impressive
And the 2000 Mets were a better team ?

Old Yankee Stadium had such a better vibe
Look on your UA-cam for the back to back homeruns by Rubben Sierra and Mattingly I never seen a stadium explode like that moment.

Remember Game 1 vividly. Was stoked to see the Yankees come back. To me, this game broke the Mets.

RIP Darryl Hamilton. The victim of a murder/suicide.
Can we get a breakdown on the Clemens pitching/Piazza catching moment from the All Star Game? Clemens got lit up which always made me think Piazza was tipping off all the AL hitters
What was forgotten was that prior to the series Agbayani predicted that the Mets would win in 5. Well, the series did end in 5 alright.
That guy with "cold hands" is Hall of Famer Mark Messier. Come on Jomboy!
That's the first thing I thought was they don't even know that that's Mark Messier? LMAO.
This series is really starting to hit its stride now. Keep it rollin!
Clemens throwing the bat at Piazza is probably top 3 weirdest things I've ever seen happen in baseball. It still really doesn't make any sense.
Ref music at stadiums in the 1970s.
At Dodger stadium the organist did all the music. She would play at any time.
How anyone can watch this WS and not hate the Yankees is beyond me.
This was the first one where I hated them.
I was nervous because Mo’s velocity was way down and he had been used a ton this postseason. So, when Piazza hit it to Bernie, I thought it was gone at first.
27:00 "Somewhere between 15 and 97." Haha.
He did the Tebow kneel. It's a sign the Mets won't be great till they bring Tebow up to the bigs.
Thing is - Al Leiter shouldn't have thrown 142 pitches. Front office should have made sure there was bullpen to take over from him..
So excited to see you guys review my fav series, 2002. The best year for an angels fan ever
We were allowed on the field once Bernie made the catch they let the line of photogs on the field. Ill never forget how I felt running out to celebrate with my beloved Yankees.
In hindsight, Piazza should've drove the bat through that vampire's heart
Music when I was a kid in late 70's and 80's was an organ. Usually the organ and "CHARGE."
Come on Jimmy “that guy with cold hands” You live in New York. Messier is a legend.
I can’t believe he didn’t know who that was
Who cares?
Elijah Farrar I mean it’s kinda funny. It’s not a huge deal, but it’s surprising that a NY sports fan wouldn’t recognize Mark Messier

@@nohbuddy1 In New York it's a pretty big deal. Although in his defense, his hands were covering his face. :)

4:08 Chris Sabo and he was on the Reds
1988 NL Rookie of the Year. Led the league in doubles with 40 and had 46 stolen bases I think
Oh nvm he didn't lead with 40 doubles. Andres Galaraga had 42. But still Sabo was awesome, for a Reds fan least
Why did you have to rehash the most painful memory of my childhood? God damn Timo Perez!!!!
Also Luis Sojo is clearly 58 years old in this game
Another funny note, my mom still remembers Luis Sojo tripping on his feet while fielding. Got a clutch hit so they left him in the lineup

And all the Mets' losses against the Royals in 2015 were the same way--a different roll of the ball and the Mets could have won.
Too much hatred for Turk Wendell. That guy was pure clutch for the Mets for a couple of seasons in the late 90s.
Great video guys
The last WS where the MVP award had that design it had throughout the decade, after that it changed in 2001.
The Clemens audio from Jake 😂😂
