Such a beautiful place. I was fortunate to grab a weekend trip through Strasbourg and Colmar while on a business trip in Frankfurt a few years back. It amazes me how many beautiful, unique places Europeans can reach within a short train ride. If I hop in the car for 3 hours here in the US, I might not even be one state over yet.
Colmar is at its best at Christmas time, when many of the buildings are elaborately decorated for the season. I really recommend visiting in December if you can - it's absolutely magical. Neighbouring big city Strasbourg is also known for its Christmas-themed streets.
So fantastic to see Colmar. We spent a week there, touring the little villages all the way to Muenster (yes, the cheese). Love, Love, Love it all. On way back to Strausborg, find the bakery/mill est. in 1740, called Moulin Kircher. Wonderful historic place in Ebersheim. Jean Michel Kircher, owner. Enjoy every magical moment!
Thank you for this informative and fun video of Colmar. I will be visiting there this coming March on an excursion from my Viking Rhine river cruise. This really got me excited about going there. Thank you for sharing. 👍
It was my worst subject despite studying more for it than anything else, but I actually used it in Alsace to get around as public transit is a bit complicated (even locals don't know/need help) if you want to go to all the little towns and villages that are honestly much better than Colmar. I took day trips from Colmar via bus and train. I stayed near the train station for $30/night less than 4 yrs ago. It's easier with a car.
Belated Happy Mother's Day to your mom. What a wonderful place to spent the day. I also love how you give a little history about the place. Actually wish we're there on a Sunday. Love that it's not too crowded. I remember going to Cesky Krumlov, outside of Prague, on winter and it is absolutely gorgeous as we have the narrow streets mostly to ourselves. Thank you again.
Bartholdi didn’t design the EIFFEL TOWER. However Gustave Eiffel did design the framework of the STATUE OF LIBERTY which was designed by Bertholdi. The museum you couldn’t remember is the Unterlinden. It is fantastic.
I got off the train in Colmar from Strasbourg and was to say a little underwhelmed. Luckily I booked a nice Airbnb right in the heart of little Venice and was very inspired by how beautiful the lay out is near the water. Truly a fantasyland. Granted as a single guy Strasbourg is for me a bit more, but Colmar is a picturesque place for couples.
We were scheduled to go to France, including Colmar April 16th but got Covid the week before. :(. Looks lovely. Thank you for taking us with you. Maybe we will make it there someday.
Thank you for doing this. I’m a total Francophile but I’ve never been to the north east region of France. That’s neat about the storks. Provence has its giraffes and colmar its storks. Each region is so packed with pride and history. I remember reading in a Peter Mayle book that the only thing the Provençals hate worse than the Germans are the Parisians! Thank you so much for this wonderful video! Such great info
Wow must have just missed you! We just got back from a two week trip to France where half of that time was spent in Strasbourg and Colmar! It's really incredible how well preserved everything is. Highly recommend touring Castle du Haut-Koeningsbourg if you haven't done that! It was one of the highlights of our trip to the Alsace region (as well as eating all of the fromage blanc tartes 😋)
Some people want to go to different countries Mark without bothering to understand different cultures or that cultures Etiquette and experiences. I can't wait to start being able to travel and meet different people. I have the Cotswolds and Blackpool this year but next year i'm deciding between Sicily, Cyprus, Curacao or South Africa, All disabled/handicapped friendly.
I visited the Christmas markets there in 2018. It was ironically cheaper to stay in Basel and travel in for the day than get a hotel there. Basel had its own Christmas markets too. Definitely worth the visit. Also, Basel Airport is fairly cheap to fly to as it’s technically in France so the airlines have cheaper fees (I believe) but it has two exits: A French Exit and Swiss Exit. So I guess you can use French exit and go directly to Colmar too for you’re lucky enough to get a hotel there
Thanks Mark! Nice video, as always 😊 On a usual Sunday, some places would be open, but this specific day, 8th of May, is also a public holiday (celebration of the end of the European part of WWII). Hence some more closed doors. Happy Mother's day! (Local info: people of Colmar will celebrate the Mother's day on the last Sunday of May 😄).
Good video , thanks for sharing , I also take landscape videos in UK and sometimes abroad .It's very helpful. I subscribed to the channel, so I'm looking forward to it. Thank you for the good video
Wonderful tour, thank you Mark! Beautiful old Germanic/Alsatian architecture, we're adding to our to-do/visit list!! Was wondering what happened to the Straßburg video yesterday when I clicked on it & an error-message popped up...hopefully it gets rescued somehow & posted to your FB page again??
Hey Mark....love your videos....my girlfriend will have a stopover in Colmar when she is on her river cruise in October and I 2ad wondering if you could give me some general tips for a day trip. Keep up the videos. I have used many of them to help me in my travels. Cheers, Brian J.
We were so disappointed that Strasberg didn’t post. Did you try uploading it again after deleting first one? That usually works for me. We are going to Strasberg and Colmar end of July so very interested in this new trip of yours. TFS
My ancestors were from France by way of Quebec! Some French are real snooty! My grandfather and his dad's family spoke French, I do not speak a lick of it.
Mark, even Parisian waiters are great, I've had one even say, "thank God, your Americans..." (we tip $ and tend to be pleasant). Just don't call a waiter "garçon" it means "BOY" and not conducive to getting good service. There also has been a shift in the last decade, some waiters are becoming more open with guest when that used to be seen as unprofessional, and France is always far more formal than the US or UK. Also, "bonjour" (good day) is an expected politeness to start, use it for better service everywhere.
@@woltersworld are you and Jocelyn having marital problems? Separated? Have had that feeling for a long long time. She's not in your question and answer videos anymore when she used to always partipate. She hasn't posted videos in months. The only videos are the ones you post. You haven't traveled internationally for ever, and it's not about the pandemic. Most of your videos lately are places you've been long ago. Now, your in France. No mention of Jocelyn, no wife, no kids and something is going on for sure. I know it's none of our business but, I hope the two of you work it out.

I love this format. It feels like we are there with you just exploring and wandering. Please do more!
You SIR are living your best life💯🍀♥️
The walk from the train station is in fact quite nice, a wonderful Court of Appeal building, old parcs, a pretty resident area.

Wow. Beautiful architecture and cobbled streets. Happy Mother's Day to your lovely mum 👒✨😊☀️🤗🌻
Beautiful place and it looks like your fairy tales books. Love the buildings.

We will be there in 3 weeks and you video is making me really excited! Thank you !
I was one of the few who took French in high school, completely convinced I would need it for the many travels there I was going to take.

Thank you Mark- going there in October- this video helps
You should visit the villages of Kayserberg and Riquewihr. They're near Colmar and well worth seeing!
Eguisheim
What a beautiful place! We had an unplanned 3-day stay there last month. It was lovely.

I LOOOOOOVED Colmar when we went to France a few years ago!!!
thank you mark i enjoyed this stream very much.
you are living the life I only dream of my friend. One day I'll be able to take my kiddos traveling, one day...
The buildings are gorgeous and I didn't have a problem with waiters when I was in Paris.
Nice video. Happy Mother’s Day Mrs W
Watching this now! So beautiful indeed!! Thanks for sharing the views with us!
Were you just using your phone on a gimbal? The footage was great!
Such a pretty place! Alsatians must be like Southerners; proud to be an American, but blessed to be born in the South!😁

Colmar is beautiful
Looks great. I was in Strasbourg ages ago...lol
I watched your stroll with your Mom. It saved.
I wrote a story about Colmar. Totally inspiring, even in the photographs. I've yet to visit the place in the flesh.
HI ! wellcom in Alsace 💞
Asparagus and flatbread pizza sounds amazing!
It was good

Beautiful French city. Lovely video. I believe it's pronounced Strahsbourg. "Strowsborg" is Germany.
Colmar is sooooo cute.
It really is
Colmar is one of my dream vacation spots. It is the inspiration for anime such as Howl's Moving Castle and Is the Order a Rabbit?
Riquewihr France is also very beautiful
aw man! I missed it!
12:55 bartholdi had design the statue of liberty not the eiffel tower
I'm probably wrong but do I get a Dutch/Victorian vibe from that architecture? Also it's beautiful there!
Gorgeous! What's the best way to eat on a holiday with restaurants and stores closed? Are there any places open where you can just pick up a sandwich?
Think a Christmas story movie Christmas dinner
Now do Freiburg and the wine of Bickensol.
Any plans to go to Egypt?
2023

vers Little Venice & Boating ???
If going to strasbourg ans colmor, would there be another nearby city as it seems relatively close to basle etc
Do they have stork nests 9n the roof to bring good luck? I think that it might be a Dutch thing.
It’s amazing! 🤩 Happy Mother’s Day to your Mom!
The street signs are in French and Alsatian.

I just made a couple videos stressing the importance of just saying bonjeur when one enters a store in France:)
good stuff. so glad to see people with out face dippers.
Do they have plant based restaurant options?
Yes

Still not comfortable going to Europe as an American. Sad unfortunately.
Why?

Something is definitely up. She's been MIA for months. Something stinks in Denmark. No doubt in my mind.
