As it looks like it just has a satin or raw finish, it would be cool to see you finish it with a thick nitro-cellulose lacquer, and then do the freezer relic job that you did with your goldtop. Maybe just stain those light relic'd areas that the factory did first as they stand out too much. Then do the 'aged satin' nitro cellulose lacquer over top, and then do your freezer method. Might turn out nice.
Nice looking example. I love those slab Les Pauls. Nothing growls like a P-90. LP silkscreen says Les Paul Model? Why not Les Paul Junior? Still waiting for my Cathy Les Paul Special DC. "I try asap photo next week".
@TheworldofMattias Well, I suppose it depends on how special this particular birthday is. Two of them are $3,000+ instruments bought new, and the Sonex is ~$750 used. If you want another acoustic, then the L-00 is your one choice. For electric, the Sonex is sort of an odd bird. Resonwood, bolt on neck - not your typical Gibson. The deluxe had Velvet Brick HB pickups by Bill Lawrence (SRV loved his single coils) and Gibson Dirty Fingers in the Custom & Artist models. I've never played one. On the other hand, an ES-335 is a classic, beautiful guitar. It's one of my favorites. Interesting choices.
I turned 45 so maybe not that special. But I can´t decide If I´ll do a youtube project with a Sonex, the one I have in sight is a custom, or if I should expand my "real" guitar collection with a classic. Maybe the ES-335 is the way to go, but I really can´t decide...
Check out the neck and headstock. I’ve bought from Cathy and others. They are not making the neck, headstock and fretboard out of wood. They look like wood but it’s actually called HPL. The last couple I bought and had made came this way. The joint at the body is wood but above it is all HPL. High Pressure Laminate. Hopefully yours is not. Just something to keep your eye on in the future.
Yes, they were all LP. One was from Kevin Shi. He used to be great. I bought a relic After doing a little sanding on the neck I discovered it wasn’t wood. I’ve got another one coming from Cathy so we will see.
@Ereed74 Back in March, I ordered an LP Special Double Cut from Cathy. I specified a one-piece quarter sawn mahogany neck and a one-piece flat sawn mahogany body. Once I get it, I'll find out if it's HPL or not.
Ha ha. I wouldn’t want to feel responsible for that. I’d hate to see you do that and see that it is all good. It probably is fine. I know it’s a crap shoot literally, I’ve had some great ones made but the last 2 were garbage and both had scarf joints in same place as yours and above the joint it was all HPL even the headstock. Anyway keep posting I enjoy your vids!
Looks like a pretty cool guitar! Thanks for documenting it, I was thinking of ordering a Junior through Cathy. I have spotted a couple things to change that would bother me though. Mainly that pickguard. The shape isn't quite right at the cutaway and not lined up well with the edge of the guitar. Almost looks hand cut. I would be interested in your process of ordering a custom one. Do you just send her a list of what you want, photos, etc and she sends back an order link?
Yes, that´s exactly how I ordered my customs from her. If you want a different pick guard I would order one without it and then put on one you prefer yourself.
@@TheworldofMattias as I mentioned, I am recently the proud owner of a Chibson, if I was to swap out the bridge and tail piece also the nut and possibly tubers. Over your vast experience which brands specifically would you recommend for a Chibson LP
The chibbys are pretty standard, but keep in mind they are metric not imperial. I have used man different brands, fom Gibson to cheaper Amazon stuff and they all have worked. The bridge and tailpiece is probably the most easy to swap, I´m not 100% sure but every bridge I bought has fitted with no problem. Replacement tuners usually will fit but be aware of the size of the bushings. You may have to reamer the holes or get other bushings. Brand I used and think are good: Gibson, Gotoh, Kaish, Musiclilly, Alnicov, Guyker. Good luck!
Crazy that they didn't come up with another name for the LPJ's. They throw "Special" around indiscriminately as well. If the name suggests a certain type of pickup; don't use the name for a guitar containing an entirely different kind of pickup 😂 "Juniors" and "Specials" should always have P90s
I don't understand this. To each their own, but there are plenty of solid guitars out there in this price range which don't infringe on copyrights. Combine that with (as you pointed out in some of the specs) a guitar that's obviously fake. People want to justify this all by saying they are good guitars for gigging, but in reality, 95% of your audience could care less if you're playing a Schecter or a Gibson. So I ask you all, what's the point? Why not buy a used Epiphone Jr that someone probably gave up on guitar playing after a week? I'm genuinely curious.
Its hard to answer why you want one guitar and not the other, it all comes down to what you like. Gibson or fender? Ibanez or Washburn? Epiphone or Chibby? Personal preference I guess
@BXGuitars I think people like the Gibson logo. There's a reason people by knockoff Rolex watches when for the same money they could buy a Timex that works better.
I waited for an older Epi Junior that had been upgraded by someone. It plays, sounds, and looks great. No need to spend more than $250. esse quam videri!
In full disclosure, I have a spalted maple Chibson I bought off DHgate years and years ago. The headstock was not pictured, so I was surprised it said Gibson. That was those days. Recently, I have heard so much about Cathy Zhong that I was curious about her building quality. Last March, I ordered an LP Special DC from her to see myself. Once I get it, I'll stick one of those Chibson stickers on it. I find them funny.
I really do see what you mean. I´m also a bit tired of the G-logo. I´m gonna replace it on all my Chibbys. I actually asked the builder why she wouldn´t put her own name on the headstock. She said, then the sales drop. So I guess most people are after the logo. Me? I like the shapes especially the headstock. But I´d rather have another brand on there.

Hope you had a happy birthday!
Was this a Matty to Matty BD present?
Good point on the waterslide, didn’t think of that. You have a nack for details!
Haha, no it was not! I haven’t decided yet what to get me. L-00, Sonex or ES-335 (all Gibsons) what you recken?

Maybe I should sand it down completely just to see what´s hidden? That would be a good video I think?

@@TheworldofMattias Sweet thanks

Hello again, I love your videos. I finally got my GLP CHIBSON. I do have one or two questions if you don’t mind answering
Absolutly, fire away!

Nice! What is contact link for that exact model?
You can find it by using the discord link in the discription or contacting Cathy Zhong directly on Facebook
Looks good, like it came from 50s.set it up and enjoy.
Thanks man! 😊🤘
Always dress the frets!
🎸
Vad gör du med alla gitarrer du köper?
Fixar, uppgraderar, lär mig :) Men, jag har för många. Jag kommer att re-branda de flesta och sälja av dem. 20+ är lite väl många haha!
The Discord link does not work
Try this discord.gg/Y8u6Sr3F
FYI: Les Paul Junior and LPJ are two completely different guitars. That is a Les Paul Junior
Thanks man!

Remove the veneer, yes? How do you think that would look? Prep the top and paint it yourself! 😊
That´s a good idea! However, I´m planning to sell it and I have just changed the logo on the headstock so I will probably try to sell it as is. :)

Strat knobs, that's a little off😊
Accually, its black top hats 😊
Never seen an actual Strat obviously.
