When you hit a category button, it pulls up the first voice in that category. Is it possible to set the button to go straight to a different voice in that category? I’m trying to avoid scrolling through the menu when quickly changing sounds.

Yeah I have a lot of ppl asking for the software but unfortunately the VycroMX software its no longer available but there's another software here www.jmelas.gr/motif/bundle.php which a lot of ppl has told me its compatible and you can do the same thing but ive never used it personally. So give it a shot if you want. I no longer own the Mx49 since was stolen last year. Looking forward to get a new one this year.
Its impossible since the MX its a very limited keyboard. It was created with a "plug and play"perspective in mind. It just so happens that stumble across the vycro software and found out about the extra features provided.

I know for fact you can use them as individual but not sure how many tracks will be able to use an exclusive fx. Never thought about that while making the video sorry.
Insert fx are only assignabel to individual patches. Only two patches at a time can use two inserts each reguardles of how many voices you are playing in VycroMX
This only proves that Yamaha should’ve included more layers and a looper on this Mx88 model. It is not a low budget keyboard, it’s more than a stage keyboard but also studio. Roland DS88 includes looper and track layers for same price as Yamaha.
Yeah its true, but the Roland ds88 is not $600. And the DS61 retail price is $749. Thats still more than the Mx when it came out couple years ago. Roland DS its a synthesizer with sampler ...Yamaha MX is just a cheaper option for mobile musicians. Mind you that the Juno ds most of the sounds are new and some replicas from old synths while the MX Yamaha decided to use the original sound chips from the DX , TX and SP series ....which are the same ones found on the latest motif series. So basically they give you the best FM sounds in one keyboard. Compared to the motif series ...its cheap. Im a Roland boy , but when I saw the price and all the sounds on this keyboard knowing Yamaha best sounds history I knew it was a must have.
Well, if you referring to the Vycro MX, thats only an editor not for performance. The keyboard have already all categories setup from factory in it and cannot be re assign to a different one. The keyboard have whats called, "User bank" thats where all edited patches live. Whatever changes you make to a factory patch it goes automatically to the user bank which its automatically created the moment you edit and save a patch. For that theres the user button on the panel. MX series keyboards are an streamed down version of Motif's series with a little bit from DX and SP's series in it. Its a wonderful keyboard. I sold mine 2 years ago cuz money was tight and I regret it so bad. Looking forward to get it again.
Now, what used to do is let say im using a total different sound "organ" and next part I gotta recall the patch shown here. I go to the organ sound change something back and forth just to make the * show up and then save it to the user bank next to the patch. To do a quick recall I use the +/- buttons since they now next to each other in the user bank. NOW, have in mind values and all that from the patches do a recall also to last state when you saved them . So if you saved the patch with pad mod wheel all the way next time you recall it is going to be like that, all the way up. No matter if mod wheel was turned down before the recall . Every time you reach,l a sound or patch you recalling the values in board , not physical positions of anything. Hope this helps

If you go to the MIDI tab you'll see where says " MIDI" and under it says "channel". You have to assign all 16 tracks to be channel 1 so that way a layer can be created meaning all tracks playing at same time controlled by the track 1. see 21:00 Thats if you tryin to make a layer of sounds. To play 16 parts independently you just leave everything as default once its already set up for that. All 16 parts will play whatever they receiving via general midi. Have in mind thats only for playing an arrangement with different instruments independently from each other. Your MX49 will only allow you to play track 1 by default or tracks 1 &2 activating the layer button mode on the mx itself . Hope I answered your question.
Now let me add to that ...the voice capability isnt big ...meaning you'll get notes been cut off as you play after 4 tracks playing together since the mx isnt developed to do what im showing here. This is just a option/hack for ppl dont like using laptops when playing live. Depending the sounds you use , effects and other parameters ...the mx will start to cut notes for resources purposes. its a normal thing on this type of keyboards. I limited the patch to only 4 sounds ...3 at the same time and only one when playing hard notes( the bells) because thats what I normally use.
@@joshuawelsh4656 You could layer the whole 16 parts like I said on the video. But the keyboard will start struggling to play/sustain notes due to the lack of voices polyphony remaining in the internal memory. This keyboard have only 128 voices polyphony. After that it will start cutting off notes.

No, I dont think the Mx let you create your own rythms. But I actually have a video around here playing at a church long time ago where I used a loop from the MX to play live along with a drummer. Late response but not sure . Never used one . Sorry but I like posted out in the video, the MX its very limited in memory size for a ,to of sounds to play at same time . Have in mind you using trash 1 to play all of them but only the ones with volume will be heard. Kinda like MainStage but with less memory size , its basically what im doing here.

You have to be doing something wrong cause I just downloaded the driver and Vycro mx yesterday and I was using no issues at all. You only need the usb type b connection to your computer and thats it. Connect your keyboard then after the PC recognize the usb device in this case the MX 49 then you open Vycro mx. To be able to use it you first have to assign the ports on Vycro mx as seen on my video at 3:49 ua-cam.com/video/W1FxT8vhBAY/v-deo.html Now, if you are doing everything like I just told you step by step then it could be either your USB cable is damaged or maybe your computer USB connector is damaged or the Yamaha mx USB type B is damaged. If you know for sure none of this components is damaged then you are doing something wrong.
It depends. You have the option to save the presets to the k eboard or the computer. To save it in the key when you done with the set up press store. On the computer press save from the menu. I think it is.... The computer ask where you want the file to be saved. Now question: did you managed to get a copy of Vycro mx software. Cuz from what I know there software it's no longer available.
Go to the link I put on the description and then click on the search bar and type... Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver. You'll see a list of all the updates for that driver and the last two on the top are the latest updates. (V1.10.2) Notice theres 2 platform of the same driver. Windows & Mac.
unfortunately this keyboard doesnt do that. that feature its called "Patch Remain" and its found on Roland keyboards mainly. This tutorial is basically to show you how to create versatile patch. Like I said you can use all the 16 parts but have in mind its a 128 polyphony tone generator. So some notes will get cut out as the memory gets filled with notes. Thats normal on every keyboard and can really say thats the only advantage of using MainStage ...BUT. what in hardware we called notes polyphony limit on CPU world its called DSP. The reason why I choose hardware its cuz Notes polyphony limit dont crash your keyboard...even more its not noticeable if you learn how to play around with it.

Hey thanks for your comment. Have you tried give your mx88 the latest firmware update? I'm not pretty sure why your mx isn't saving it but maybe could be that the issue. Another reason could be the internal battery on your mx it's already dead but in that case your mx won't save absolutely nothing. Could you explain step by step your saving process... Maybe you doing something wrong and I wasn't been clear on the video...or maybe it's a bit different from the 49 to 88. Who knows 🤷
Yes, thats whats suppose to happen if you save the configuration you just created. If not it would be gone. If even after saving it in the MX it gets deleted automatically after turning the MX back on...that could be an issue either internal battery or the memory of the keyboard itself.

Unfortunately I dont have the patch anymore since everything was deleted from my google drive couple months ago and haven't been able to recover it. But the video its basically showing you how to replicate that patch step by step. Now we have a problem...Vycro MX to my knowledge is no longer available for download for unknown's reasons. Thats why I haven't upload any other video regarding the software. Somebody mentioned another software that could do the same but im unfamiliar with that software.
can we save all 4 layered patches into one patch? as of now i just know that if part 4 is asign in part 1 the part 4 will be a trash. i want to make it one so i can use part 4 as well.
Im basically using 4 parts at the same time....into one patch. And just to be clear ...im calling patch to the entire performance set up. " Part is another name for VOICE" and are basically the sounds like ...concert piano, dark piano, Dx legend, etc . In Yamaha keyboards are called parts to voices, Roland uses the term PATCH/ TRACKS. Just to be clear cuz that confused me at the beginning too. LOL The part #4 is some bells , they do not make any sound until you hit the keys hard. You can use the parts that youll like , the problem with #4 AND UP is theres no way to control the volume or modulation from ithem unless you connect some external controller like a volume pedal, expression pedal or even another keyboard to use the knobs and stuffs. You could even just make the sounds and control everything from an external MIDI controller device and just use the MX to play the keys. But in the case is better use Main stage or something like that. The set up is meant to be dynamic, portable and trusted to rely on when playing on stage. In this video im using the sounds from parts 1-2-3-4 but the part 1 is the one sending midi messages (notes,wheel,knobs)to all four parts at the same time but some parts have been edited so they can accept and reject some midi messages like ex; assignable knobs and wheel. You can use all the parts you want at once but remember the keyboard can send MIDI messages from only 1 of the parts. Also the tone generator in MX is not that big so after several tracks have been assigned to play together the tone generator will start cutting off notes to save some processing power.Remember this is not a computer but it have its way to process data. This function is called " Max polyphonic" the mx max polyphony is only 128 . more on that here-usa.yamaha.com/products/music_production/synthesizers/mx_series/specs.html. To control another part in its own then you have to connect a second keyboard via MIDI IN and send midi notes from that keyboard to the desire part by editing the mx in vycro. LAYER function is useless when doing this kind of set up (in this video) . SPLIT could be useful since you are technically using an additional midi command but I haven't experiment with it yet and thats for sure taking keyboard space from you if happens you using the MX49. In that case MX88 would be perfect.
oh ok, I know what you mean but no. Thats basically the Tone Generator . The mx don't give you access to edit so deeply into the tone generator like the Yamaha motif series. Somebody in the comments mentioned something about a software called Melas MX Tools. I guess that will let you get into the tone generator at full. However Yamaha mx 49 is based on performances presets which are build from Voices and user voices that you have edited. But no , you can't turn the entire patch into one single User voice and use it only in one track. Due to the max polyphonic capability of 128 voices that would be killer for the poor Mx49.
Actually...The MX series can have UP TO 16 instruments layered onto MIDI Channels 1 and 2. So if you want 4 distinct voices layered together then no problem...You just save it as a performance. Then you can recall that performance and play. It cannot be layered any further (Piano on CH1 and Elec Kbd, Bass, Str, Brass, Synth, Pad) with the Layer button if that's what you're asking....But using the Vycro MX, you can layer up to 16 voices on two different channels.
You missed the final step. Once you exit out of everything you have to save it. Otherwise it won't be saved at all to the Performance and you would have to do it all over again.
Yeah, you are completely right but thats the save for the entire performance set up meaning ...sounds you picked, volume level ect....@11:10 I showed you how to save a voice which it will stay in the mx49 memory. Once the voices have been edited you dont have to redo it completely because you already saved them in the rom. You just have to look for them on the "User bank" and assign them back to the performance. Midi settings and assignable controls are already saved along with the voice you edited. But if you've been using the keyboard for some time you'll know that its obvious you have to press store to save at the end. *CORRECTION*(Nov/29) Midi settings are not part of the voice..rather part of the Performance patch so they will not be saved along with the voice. If for some reason you lose the performance patch you created...youll need vycro mx to set up the midi channels again but thats about it ...the rest would be saved with the voice.

Thats the goal of the video because ive seen so many ppl praising so much laptops , main stage and all that stuff ...its good but me personally never will trust a computer for live performance. Im a 80"s synth guy and never had an issue with real equipment when it comes to keyboards. Right now ive been trying to find a midi controller that could be use to control an entire mix of the 16 parts of the mx49 (or other 16 midi parts keyboard) using only an external midi mixer controller. Its been a long journey since every midi controller Ive found works only via Mackie control and not Midi control.
The link takes you directly to the software and firmware download page. If you watch the how to download video I did which is on the description it clearly says that you need the Yamaha driver. If you click on the link to download you'll see the Yamaha driver on the list.
This is awesome!!! I've been looking for something like this for my live sets. I've called Yamaha and talked to their support group and they keep telling me that you can only control two channels. Meaning that what instruments are on channel 2 are all controlled simultaneously and not individually. And of course the same thing for channel 1. My question is this...........Can you change the function of the second knob to control the fourth voice???? Obviously selecting the row with VOL, ASN-1, and ASN-2, and the PAN.....can you change the function of PAN to VOL?????
Volume and Pan knobs are already assigned by factory. They dont have that option..unfortunately. If you go to EDIT, Part, Voice control set, Set....you will notice the only options to edit are MW, AS1,AS2,FS,FC1,FC2,BC,RB,AF1,AF2. Theres no option for PAN or VOLUME. This are basically controls which are usable on real time while you play. Now , the other option you could use to control channel 4 is using either MW as a volume for that or Foot controller . The Mx is very limited in some way. Hope this helps.
at 11:36 I show you how to save the edited voice (sound) on the mx which are stored on the USER bank. User banks can be found at the end of its corespondent categories. Ex: on the Piano category at the end theres the piano voices you have edited and renamed . The category bank name changes to USER. The Mx 49 uses Performances and they are based on parts (tracks playing together) . Since you already edited some of them (assuming) you just have to search and add them to the performance. Thats how you create the final "patch". Once you have created the final performance patch ...then all you have to do is press Store and the Mx will ask you where? showing you the actual performance patch which you then will overwrite with the new patch you just created.
also have in mind the mx will stay on the edited voice until you change it to a different category on that part (track). You have the option to store at any point by hitting Store.
yeah, once you hit "Store" and it shows you that is saving the sounds will get store in the rom of your MX. The only way you could lose them is either deleting the performance you just created or factory default the piano. Whatever is the mix of the sounds that you want ...just press store at the end . It will be there next time you turn on the keyboard
Fine, this shows how we can layer and edit the sounds. But how can we arrange that in a particular order and call them back while performing live? Is it possible? I mean, I want to just hit a button when I want to switch a sound. Is it possible? Also, how many splits are possible? Can I layer the sounds within the splits?
There are performances where you can save your sounds/layers. All you have to do is go to the next or previous performance to bring up other sounds/patches/voices that you've saved. It will NOT sustain the voices from performance 1 when you change to performance 2. It's a "hard stop" for the voices. This board doesn't have "Phrasing" or "Song Part" functionality....You would need a sequencer beyond whats on this one. The Montage and MODX both have these functions, and i believe the Korg Krosse or Krome has it. NOt sure about what Roland unit has this feature.

I am returning mine because it does not do all that the review says. Also the Ext.Music player DOES NOT LOOP. I simply play the length of the track and boom sTop. I researched this I am appears it is not designed to LOOP non stop. To me this a a big draw back. Hence I am returning it right away. No to mention it does not have any built-in memory to save anything. What a LOSS !
Ok...and what the review says ....that it doesn't do?What you were expecting it to do? Also , Ext Music player only plays audio files straight from the USB stick...theres no way is gonna loop it. I haven't found a keyboard that plays audio files and loop them on the spot...unless its a keyboard with sampling capabilities.
Doing all of this take away from playing and learning time. Yamaha please add layering on the new Mx with looper. Yamaha owe us a good keyboard for a good price because customers surly been good to Yamaha

This music today is a new beginning and even gospel. 70s went out mid 80s. 70s are in a special class all by itself, however, I guess it depends on the music being produced. But if you ever worked in a studio with a motif X or similar, you will understand the level of creativity with the quickness because of the ability to layer. It would’ve cost Yamaha.50 to add the Mx models 🤨
@@firstimpression9399 Well, yes its quicker to do whatever you want. But look at this...I used to own a Motif 6 . and sold it to get the Mx49. Ive found I have more flexibility in the studio and out of the studio with the Mx49. My gear ever had determined my creativity and workflow in the studio. I don,t layer keys when recording except if its a 80's vibe key sound like ep and acoustic piano...kinda California dreamy keys. I am an studio owner and I have played on stages since the 90's and still do but ive found more flexibility recording each part separately for later mixing instead of layering. Now if we talking about live performance ...yes totally agree with you. We need more features added to this keyboard for the price but see, this video is more for people who wants to sound good and doesnt want to put $1000 on a Mac book pro..plus another $300 on a great midi controller keyboard rig or $1,500 on a flagship keyboard and instead decides to only put $500 on a MX 49 that can do the same job and the only person who cares how it sounds is you and no one else. The mx49 its my go keyboard for gigs. Its easy to carry around and sounds good. Its been great for live and the studio. Its so nice that ive seen so many ppl living at home an 88 keys motif and taking with then a mx61. It only depends on what you do. Cuz I have the mx but thats not my only keyboard in the studio. I have another Roland JVmodule, a Nord stage and my previous live rig which it was MainStage. But I dont use it anymore cuz the mx is giving me the same thing. Like I said ....at the end of the day the person who cares how it sounds its only you and no-one else.

Even though changes are send in real time using vycro....You have to write the changes on the MX after editing
Yes, you have the option to save everything as a template on the software(vycro) or direct on your MX keyboard by hitting STORE

Its impossible since the MX its a very limited keyboard. It was created with a "plug and play"perspective in mind. It just so happens that stumble across the vycro software and found out about the extra features provided.

Insert fx are only assignabel to individual patches. Only two patches at a time can use two inserts each reguardles of how many voices you are playing in VycroMX

This only proves that Yamaha should’ve included more layers and a looper on this Mx88 model. It is not a low budget keyboard, it’s more than a stage keyboard but also studio. Roland DS88 includes looper and track layers for same price as Yamaha.
Yeah its true, but the Roland ds88 is not $600. And the DS61 retail price is $749. Thats still more than the Mx when it came out couple years ago. Roland DS its a synthesizer with sampler ...Yamaha MX is just a cheaper option for mobile musicians. Mind you that the Juno ds most of the sounds are new and some replicas from old synths while the MX Yamaha decided to use the original sound chips from the DX , TX and SP series ....which are the same ones found on the latest motif series. So basically they give you the best FM sounds in one keyboard. Compared to the motif series ...its cheap. Im a Roland boy , but when I saw the price and all the sounds on this keyboard knowing Yamaha best sounds history I knew it was a must have.

Well, if you referring to the Vycro MX, thats only an editor not for performance. The keyboard have already all categories setup from factory in it and cannot be re assign to a different one. The keyboard have whats called, "User bank" thats where all edited patches live. Whatever changes you make to a factory patch it goes automatically to the user bank which its automatically created the moment you edit and save a patch. For that theres the user button on the panel. MX series keyboards are an streamed down version of Motif's series with a little bit from DX and SP's series in it. Its a wonderful keyboard. I sold mine 2 years ago cuz money was tight and I regret it so bad. Looking forward to get it again.
Now, what used to do is let say im using a total different sound "organ" and next part I gotta recall the patch shown here. I go to the organ sound change something back and forth just to make the * show up and then save it to the user bank next to the patch. To do a quick recall I use the +/- buttons since they now next to each other in the user bank. NOW, have in mind values and all that from the patches do a recall also to last state when you saved them . So if you saved the patch with pad mod wheel all the way next time you recall it is going to be like that, all the way up. No matter if mod wheel was turned down before the recall . Every time you reach,l a sound or patch you recalling the values in board , not physical positions of anything. Hope this helps

How do I enable 16 voices? Right now my vycro on allows 3, I've clicked the check in the on box but it won't turn on
If you go to the MIDI tab you'll see where says " MIDI" and under it says "channel". You have to assign all 16 tracks to be channel 1 so that way a layer can be created meaning all tracks playing at same time controlled by the track 1. see 21:00 Thats if you tryin to make a layer of sounds. To play 16 parts independently you just leave everything as default once its already set up for that. All 16 parts will play whatever they receiving via general midi. Have in mind thats only for playing an arrangement with different instruments independently from each other. Your MX49 will only allow you to play track 1 by default or tracks 1 &2 activating the layer button mode on the mx itself . Hope I answered your question.
Now let me add to that ...the voice capability isnt big ...meaning you'll get notes been cut off as you play after 4 tracks playing together since the mx isnt developed to do what im showing here. This is just a option/hack for ppl dont like using laptops when playing live. Depending the sounds you use , effects and other parameters ...the mx will start to cut notes for resources purposes. its a normal thing on this type of keyboards. I limited the patch to only 4 sounds ...3 at the same time and only one when playing hard notes( the bells) because thats what I normally use.
I actually maaged to layer 7 sounds with volume with out using the mod wheel and that includes the bell so in theory you could layer 8 sounds
@@joshuawelsh4656 You could layer the whole 16 parts like I said on the video. But the keyboard will start struggling to play/sustain notes due to the lack of voices polyphony remaining in the internal memory. This keyboard have only 128 voices polyphony. After that it will start cutting off notes.
How did you connect the keyboard to make it sound so rich? Did you use an audio interface on stereo?. I can't get it sound like this even with headphones.

No, I dont think the Mx let you create your own rythms. But I actually have a video around here playing at a church long time ago where I used a loop from the MX to play live along with a drummer. Late response but not sure . Never used one . Sorry but I like posted out in the video, the MX its very limited in memory size for a ,to of sounds to play at same time . Have in mind you using trash 1 to play all of them but only the ones with volume will be heard. Kinda like MainStage but with less memory size , its basically what im doing here.

You have to be doing something wrong cause I just downloaded the driver and Vycro mx yesterday and I was using no issues at all. You only need the usb type b connection to your computer and thats it. Connect your keyboard then after the PC recognize the usb device in this case the MX 49 then you open Vycro mx. To be able to use it you first have to assign the ports on Vycro mx as seen on my video at 3:49 ua-cam.com/video/W1FxT8vhBAY/v-deo.html Now, if you are doing everything like I just told you step by step then it could be either your USB cable is damaged or maybe your computer USB connector is damaged or the Yamaha mx USB type B is damaged. If you know for sure none of this components is damaged then you are doing something wrong.
I suggest you to read carefully your Yamaha manual. Everything is easier when you know and understand your equipment.

It depends. You have the option to save the presets to the k eboard or the computer. To save it in the key when you done with the set up press store. On the computer press save from the menu. I think it is.... The computer ask where you want the file to be saved. Now question: did you managed to get a copy of Vycro mx software. Cuz from what I know there software it's no longer available.

Go to the link I put on the description and then click on the search bar and type... Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver. You'll see a list of all the updates for that driver and the last two on the top are the latest updates. (V1.10.2) Notice theres 2 platform of the same driver. Windows & Mac.

unfortunately this keyboard doesnt do that. that feature its called "Patch Remain" and its found on Roland keyboards mainly. This tutorial is basically to show you how to create versatile patch. Like I said you can use all the 16 parts but have in mind its a 128 polyphony tone generator. So some notes will get cut out as the memory gets filled with notes. Thats normal on every keyboard and can really say thats the only advantage of using MainStage ...BUT. what in hardware we called notes polyphony limit on CPU world its called DSP. The reason why I choose hardware its cuz Notes polyphony limit dont crash your keyboard...even more its not noticeable if you learn how to play around with it.

Hey thanks for your comment. Have you tried give your mx88 the latest firmware update? I'm not pretty sure why your mx isn't saving it but maybe could be that the issue. Another reason could be the internal battery on your mx it's already dead but in that case your mx won't save absolutely nothing. Could you explain step by step your saving process... Maybe you doing something wrong and I wasn't been clear on the video...or maybe it's a bit different from the 49 to 88. Who knows 🤷

No, you only need the computer to edit the performance then after that when you hit "save" on your keyboard it will be saved in the Yamaha mx.

Yes, thats whats suppose to happen if you save the configuration you just created. If not it would be gone. If even after saving it in the MX it gets deleted automatically after turning the MX back on...that could be an issue either internal battery or the memory of the keyboard itself.

Unfortunately I dont have the patch anymore since everything was deleted from my google drive couple months ago and haven't been able to recover it. But the video its basically showing you how to replicate that patch step by step. Now we have a problem...Vycro MX to my knowledge is no longer available for download for unknown's reasons. Thats why I haven't upload any other video regarding the software. Somebody mentioned another software that could do the same but im unfamiliar with that software.

Im basically using 4 parts at the same time....into one patch. And just to be clear ...im calling patch to the entire performance set up. " Part is another name for VOICE" and are basically the sounds like ...concert piano, dark piano, Dx legend, etc . In Yamaha keyboards are called parts to voices, Roland uses the term PATCH/ TRACKS. Just to be clear cuz that confused me at the beginning too. LOL The part #4 is some bells , they do not make any sound until you hit the keys hard. You can use the parts that youll like , the problem with #4 AND UP is theres no way to control the volume or modulation from ithem unless you connect some external controller like a volume pedal, expression pedal or even another keyboard to use the knobs and stuffs. You could even just make the sounds and control everything from an external MIDI controller device and just use the MX to play the keys. But in the case is better use Main stage or something like that. The set up is meant to be dynamic, portable and trusted to rely on when playing on stage. In this video im using the sounds from parts 1-2-3-4 but the part 1 is the one sending midi messages (notes,wheel,knobs)to all four parts at the same time but some parts have been edited so they can accept and reject some midi messages like ex; assignable knobs and wheel. You can use all the parts you want at once but remember the keyboard can send MIDI messages from only 1 of the parts. Also the tone generator in MX is not that big so after several tracks have been assigned to play together the tone generator will start cutting off notes to save some processing power.Remember this is not a computer but it have its way to process data. This function is called " Max polyphonic" the mx max polyphony is only 128 . more on that here-usa.yamaha.com/products/music_production/synthesizers/mx_series/specs.html. To control another part in its own then you have to connect a second keyboard via MIDI IN and send midi notes from that keyboard to the desire part by editing the mx in vycro. LAYER function is useless when doing this kind of set up (in this video) . SPLIT could be useful since you are technically using an additional midi command but I haven't experiment with it yet and thats for sure taking keyboard space from you if happens you using the MX49. In that case MX88 would be perfect.

oh ok, I know what you mean but no. Thats basically the Tone Generator . The mx don't give you access to edit so deeply into the tone generator like the Yamaha motif series. Somebody in the comments mentioned something about a software called Melas MX Tools. I guess that will let you get into the tone generator at full. However Yamaha mx 49 is based on performances presets which are build from Voices and user voices that you have edited. But no , you can't turn the entire patch into one single User voice and use it only in one track. Due to the max polyphonic capability of 128 voices that would be killer for the poor Mx49.

Actually...The MX series can have UP TO 16 instruments layered onto MIDI Channels 1 and 2. So if you want 4 distinct voices layered together then no problem...You just save it as a performance. Then you can recall that performance and play. It cannot be layered any further (Piano on CH1 and Elec Kbd, Bass, Str, Brass, Synth, Pad) with the Layer button if that's what you're asking....But using the Vycro MX, you can layer up to 16 voices on two different channels.

You missed the final step. Once you exit out of everything you have to save it. Otherwise it won't be saved at all to the Performance and you would have to do it all over again.
Yeah, you are completely right but thats the save for the entire performance set up meaning ...sounds you picked, volume level ect....@11:10 I showed you how to save a voice which it will stay in the mx49 memory. Once the voices have been edited you dont have to redo it completely because you already saved them in the rom. You just have to look for them on the "User bank" and assign them back to the performance. Midi settings and assignable controls are already saved along with the voice you edited. But if you've been using the keyboard for some time you'll know that its obvious you have to press store to save at the end. *CORRECTION*(Nov/29) Midi settings are not part of the voice..rather part of the Performance patch so they will not be saved along with the voice. If for some reason you lose the performance patch you created...youll need vycro mx to set up the midi channels again but thats about it ...the rest would be saved with the voice.

Im a 80"s synth guy and never had an issue with real equipment when it comes to keyboards. Right now ive been trying to find a midi controller that could be use to control an entire mix of the 16 parts of the mx49 (or other 16 midi parts keyboard) using only an external midi mixer controller. Its been a long journey since every midi controller Ive found works only via Mackie control and not Midi control.

The link takes you directly to the software and firmware download page. If you watch the how to download video I did which is on the description it clearly says that you need the Yamaha driver. If you click on the link to download you'll see the Yamaha driver on the list.
This is awesome!!! I've been looking for something like this for my live sets. I've called Yamaha and talked to their support group and they keep telling me that you can only control two channels. Meaning that what instruments are on channel 2 are all controlled simultaneously and not individually. And of course the same thing for channel 1.
My question is this...........Can you change the function of the second knob to control the fourth voice???? Obviously selecting the row with VOL, ASN-1, and ASN-2, and the PAN.....can you change the function of PAN to VOL?????
Volume and Pan knobs are already assigned by factory. They dont have that option..unfortunately. If you go to EDIT, Part, Voice control set, Set....you will notice the only options to edit are MW, AS1,AS2,FS,FC1,FC2,BC,RB,AF1,AF2. Theres no option for PAN or VOLUME. This are basically controls which are usable on real time while you play. Now , the other option you could use to control channel 4 is using either MW as a volume for that or Foot controller . The Mx is very limited in some way. Hope this helps.

at 11:36 I show you how to save the edited voice (sound) on the mx which are stored on the USER bank. User banks can be found at the end of its corespondent categories. Ex: on the Piano category at the end theres the piano voices you have edited and renamed . The category bank name changes to USER. The Mx 49 uses Performances and they are based on parts (tracks playing together) . Since you already edited some of them (assuming) you just have to search and add them to the performance. Thats how you create the final "patch". Once you have created the final performance patch ...then all you have to do is press Store and the Mx will ask you where? showing you the actual performance patch which you then will overwrite with the new patch you just created.
also have in mind the mx will stay on the edited voice until you change it to a different category on that part (track). You have the option to store at any point by hitting Store.

yeah, once you hit "Store" and it shows you that is saving the sounds will get store in the rom of your MX. The only way you could lose them is either deleting the performance you just created or factory default the piano. Whatever is the mix of the sounds that you want ...just press store at the end . It will be there next time you turn on the keyboard

Fine, this shows how we can layer and edit the sounds. But how can we arrange that in a particular order and call them back while performing live? Is it possible? I mean, I want to just hit a button when I want to switch a sound. Is it possible? Also, how many splits are possible? Can I layer the sounds within the splits?
There are performances where you can save your sounds/layers. All you have to do is go to the next or previous performance to bring up other sounds/patches/voices that you've saved. It will NOT sustain the voices from performance 1 when you change to performance 2. It's a "hard stop" for the voices. This board doesn't have "Phrasing" or "Song Part" functionality....You would need a sequencer beyond whats on this one. The Montage and MODX both have these functions, and i believe the Korg Krosse or Krome has it. NOt sure about what Roland unit has this feature.

I am returning mine because it does not do all that the review says. Also the Ext.Music player DOES NOT LOOP. I simply play the length of the track and boom sTop. I researched this I am appears it is not designed to LOOP non stop. To me this a a big draw back. Hence I am returning it right away. No to mention it does not have any built-in memory to save anything. What a LOSS !
Ok...and what the review says ....that it doesn't do?What you were expecting it to do? Also , Ext Music player only plays audio files straight from the USB stick...theres no way is gonna loop it. I haven't found a keyboard that plays audio files and loop them on the spot...unless its a keyboard with sampling capabilities.
Doing all of this take away from playing and learning time. Yamaha please add layering on the new Mx with looper. Yamaha owe us a good keyboard for a good price because customers surly been good to Yamaha

This music today is a new beginning and even gospel. 70s went out mid 80s. 70s are in a special class all by itself, however, I guess it depends on the music being produced. But if you ever worked in a studio with a motif X or similar, you will understand the level of creativity with the quickness because of the ability to layer. It would’ve cost Yamaha.50 to add the Mx models 🤨
@@firstimpression9399 Well, yes its quicker to do whatever you want. But look at this...I used to own a Motif 6 . and sold it to get the Mx49. Ive found I have more flexibility in the studio and out of the studio with the Mx49. My gear ever had determined my creativity and workflow in the studio. I don,t layer keys when recording except if its a 80's vibe key sound like ep and acoustic piano...kinda California dreamy keys. I am an studio owner and I have played on stages since the 90's and still do but ive found more flexibility recording each part separately for later mixing instead of layering. Now if we talking about live performance ...yes totally agree with you. We need more features added to this keyboard for the price but see, this video is more for people who wants to sound good and doesnt want to put $1000 on a Mac book pro..plus another $300 on a great midi controller keyboard rig or $1,500 on a flagship keyboard and instead decides to only put $500 on a MX 49 that can do the same job and the only person who cares how it sounds is you and no one else. The mx49 its my go keyboard for gigs. Its easy to carry around and sounds good. Its been great for live and the studio. Its so nice that ive seen so many ppl living at home an 88 keys motif and taking with then a mx61. It only depends on what you do. Cuz I have the mx but thats not my only keyboard in the studio. I have another Roland JVmodule, a Nord stage and my previous live rig which it was MainStage. But I dont use it anymore cuz the mx is giving me the same thing. Like I said ....at the end of the day the person who cares how it sounds its only you and no-one else.
