- Will it be Jey Uso or Gunther who advances to the FINALS of the King of the Ring? WWE has some SERIOUS Creative decisions to make tonight. WWE Raw 5/20/24 review, and results with @JDfromNYon Off The Script. JDfromNY reviews WWE Raw for May 20th, 2024. Gunther battles Jey Uso in the Men's King of the Ring Semi-Final, and Lyra Valkyria take son IYO SKY in the Women's Semi-Final of the Queen of the Ring. Also, Chad Gable takes on Sami Zayn, and Bron Breakker loses his mind over Adam Pearce not putting him in the King of the Ring Tournament.

I was there live. The reason we chanted “what?” at Liv Morgan is because we literally couldn’t understand wtf she was saying. sounded like gibberish.
I am normally in attendance when they're in Greensboro, NC, and this show was no different. Here are a few notes for you, JD:
Otis was almost as over as Jey Uso, as far as crowd pop. Also, Iyo Sky was easily the favorite, as her loss deflated everyone.
The Uncle Howdy teases, specifically the mysterious music and lights flickering, did NOT happen before the show. It happened randomly during a commercial break, which made it a lot creepier.
WWE is 100% pushing the firefly aspect of Jey Uso's entrance. They had Samantha Irvin announce during the last commercial break before the main event to turn on your cell phone flashlight for Jey's entrance. They had her say that Jey "requested" it.
Gunther's chops are TERRIFYING in person. I felt every impact from my seat, and I was sitting kinda close to the ring.
Maxxine Dupri has that Mother Wayne effect... Much prettier in person compared to on-screen. Also, she still sucked in her match, but she showed a little improvement... but just barely.
Liv Morgan definitely got rattled by the WHAT chants. It was more cringe in person, because we could see her get physically stiffened up. That's why she started slowing down when she spoke.
Totally agree about promo work on RAW for the Women's Division. The only believable character as far as promo or video is Iyo Sky who doesn't even speak English.

Randy Orton vs. Gunther is the match taking place in the finals of the KOTR tournament, imho. Thanks for the review of Raw, JD, and can't wait for Tuesday Night Titans #49 with Solomonster. 💯 🇵🇷
Hopefully Raw gets rid of commercials when they go to Netflix. I got to see Lyra Valkyria (Who?) vs Iyo Sky live. It was really good, even more so because there were no commercial interruptions.
Jey Uso vs Tama Tonga would’ve been the “new era” move. Advances the Bloodline story. This matchup now is just run-of-the-mill.
I don't see how that's a new era move, but keeping Gunther strong isn't. It's an old guy vs a newer guy either way, the difference is just that Gunther and Orton are better wrestlers and Gunther is the most legit KOTR candidate in the tournament. You also don't need this to tell or advance a story, you can just... do it without it. If you'd just prefer Jey vs Tonga, that's fine, there doesn't need to be this weird "this is the right call!!!" reason behind it.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who sat through AEW Saturday night and wish I went blind

Big reason people have the flashlights on for Jeys entrance is because off air Samantha asks everyone to turn their lights on for Jeys entrance, she did at RAW last week.
That Liv Morgan and Becky promo made me want to rip my ears off. Painful to listen to. I Like both of them but man that was rough. Solid show outside of that imo. Gable is becoming one of the best things on raw.
I'm wondering how is it possible that nobody noticed that WWE had Becky out there repeat the same lines Mercedes said in her contract signing last week about changing the game and breaking down doors, barriers and glass ceilings !
How pathetic is it for women in WWE to hit back at whatever Mercedes pulls over on AEW television !
It's like they want to steal Mercedes identity and her calling !
No offense to Becky but she should've been original, she is a star in her own right, no need to steal from Mercedes !

Like women have main evented RAW and SD a lot of times but after Mercedes debut in March and that night Willow and Riho closed Dynamite, right the following Friday on SD and Monday on RAW also WWE chose to let the women main event ! It seems a little bit forced, like a forced narrative !

This was a decent Monday night raw the best part of the show is bron breakers destruction I really enjoy some of that chaos triple H loves his Backstage brawls.☺️
Becky Lynch got to be one of the most boring and repetitive promos in the history of WWE. She literally cuts the same promo every week

I can see Otis getting a big pop from the WWE fans once Otis shows Chad Gable that he won't do his bidding anymore once that time comes and Chad Gable being a heel is really awesome to see plus what Liv Morgan is doing in terms of her revenge tour I just don't see it as that at all as far as the rest of the show goes it was good outside of a few things here and there that honestly could've been better and I would love to see the team of Heavy Machinery on the main roster as brand new tag team champs on Monday Night Raw.
Jey Uso is a fucking jobber he would be on Sunday night heat if was in the 90s

I have to respectfully disagree with the take on Bron Breakker (theme) IMO his previous theme was wwe 2k generic superstar 1 default theme vibe inducing, for instance I can visualize the jobber Bron destroyed given that theme, I didn't hate it but this new theme is a step up for a killer like Bron, the vibe fits & its nice seeing metal heads in 5he crowd head banging to the new theme.
That's just me, I think the new theme fits the presentation/direction they wanna take Bron, but I'm also over the squash matches as well I'm just glad I seen Bron for more than 60 seconds this week.
Also watch Alpha Academy transfer to Chase University once Master Gable is finished with them.
Wasn't a fan of the main event. Seemed like a lot of sloppy moments and sloppy changes in momentum.
Gunther charging out of the corner with a dropkick 2 seconds after eating 25 stomps had me cringing.
Like hell priest will ever headline a ppv I get it..but has he even main evented atleast raw as the whc?
Gunther sells for about two seconds then he’s good as new.

King of the Ring reward for the winner- Should get a title shot for the WHC title and the WWE title at an upcoming PLE before next year's Wrestlemania - but unable to cash in like with Money in the bank - that keeps Money in the bank winners relevant

Feels like we're stuck in limbo this year with how slow we are moving. There's barely any stories in either promotion and nothing seems to connect.
That's what happens when you put all your eggs on part timers who leave or get injured , leaving an ice cold roster
No idea why they keep calling him main event Jey uso. Both Jey and LA Knight are over. Fans eventually will lose interest in both of them if they never accomplish anything such as a singles championship run.
La knight seems to have more direction than jey they atleast teased knight vs Logan for the US belt which I believe will happen at summerslam

This the way you book the Chad Gable storyline he gets rid of the original Alpha Academy because they're not progressing in " the academy " then he gets new students in the academy the creed brothers and ivy Nile basically similar to Kurt Angle team angle stable back in the day
after being expelled from the Alpha Academy the original Alpha Academy members Otis Tozaawa and Maxxine Dupri all would go their separate ways in NXT

Candice had a Ok Start. Feuded with Damage CTRL for a bit. Had a Storyline with Nikki cross up until She Disappeared for months and then the next time you saw her she was either getting Squashed by either Rhea or Sonya in seconds in which it Completely didn't helped her whatsoever
Indi Didn't even got Pushed for months after she got Called up not long after winning the NXT Women's title in which i never understood why they put the title on her because it Completely Derrailed Perez's Momentum for the rest of 23. And while there were rumors that the way was gonna reunite. Vince Completely Squashed those ideas and. Indi was stuck doing absolutely nothing after she got called up.
Tegan nox i mean. Aside from a Vignette talking about her Long history of Knee injuries and yadi yadi yada all that to get put in Meaningless tag teams with Dana brooke and Natalya. Which also hasn't helped her get over either
Not to mention other women like Alba fyre and Isla Dawn

If anything IMO i think the women's Division is still in the Process of a Rebuild by HHH after years of being held back by Vince and then Vince once again messing it up only issues in the Division Rebuilding
1: are the same women being pushed constantly Bianca Charlotte Becky Alexa. add Jade. Rhea. Liv and Iyo to the Mix
2: The 1 minute 2 minute 3 minute matches that still happen with Hunter in charge and so many i can think off

I don’t care about this liv and Becky feud. Liv is winning so when Rhea comes back they can start their rivalry. But when Rhea gets the title back it will mostly be same as before she got injured beating everyone and having no competition boring asf. The Lyra slander is dumb because they need to more woman anyway. Seeing same old faces is getting stale.
That's why Rhea should not win the title immediatly after she comes back, i would have her struggle with adversity in the form of Liv Morgan aliggned with The New Judment Day for months and months, eventually winning the title back not before Wrestlemania 41 in Vegas !

As far as MITB, I could see Chad Gable winning, especially with him picking up heel heat and seemingly looking to start Alpha Academy 2.0. With this new heel character I can see him being an insufferable prick over the next year as Mr.MITB and he tries to cash in on Cody and eventually fails.

I'm not invest it with the King and Queen of the Ring anymore after seeing Lyra beat Io Sky, and Jey Uso getting a push. The whole tournament is a joke. I do not care to watch the ppv. A ppv event with only 5 matches on the card is a rip-off. Not a single match on the ppv interest me. This is HHH worst bookings. He fumbled with the drafts, and he fumbled the KOTR.

And 2, They teased about Erick Rowan when the QR code led me to a place that's 25 minutes from Salem... Rowan University in Glassboro, formerly known as Gloucester County Community College... A place that I've gone to a couple of times via field trips, a great reference to his ring name and somewhere that is literally not too far from my hometown of Salem.
