True, but I love my truck and muscle car. They are amazing to drive with my family and myself. I owned an '88 Corolla for twenty years. Had to replace the alternator and distributor once in that time. Gave it away when rust finally started to eat through the drivers side floor. I could leave that car sitting all winter and it would still start up in spring.

I’m still amazed at how upside down ppl are when they purchase cars. Low credit scores , lower income but they are still trying to finance mid to high tier luxury autos.
I still drive my fully paid for 2014 Toyota Corolla with 206K miles. It's the base model with a 6 speed manual. I bought it because it's a manual and it's easy to repair. My summer project is to replace the brakes and brake fluid.

Had my car for 14 years this August, and I paid it off in 2013. But wear and tear is catching up its like every 5 months I have to repair something. When do I say it's time for another car?
I took out a loan on a used suv. This was after my back was against the wall when I got rear ended by an idiot driving without a Lisence. I fought like hell not to buy one from a dealership. I lost out on that. It was the best possible option at that time. I only paid about 12.5k on it. A 20+ year old suv with pretty low mileage. It's not a luxury vehicle by no means, but it's my trusty steed. It's about 80% paid off. Also, the financing was done in house and NOT through the bank. It was also at a mom and pop dealer.
Common sense logic here but a lot of people won't take your advice. It's a behavior problem, not a math problem. People should learn financial literacy, then apply it.

The system is the problem. The way they make everything unfair and us in debt from the beginning is the problem. Not just virtue signaling and showing how awesome and masculine we are!
"The bulk of depreciation comes in the first few years." That very much has not been the case in the last few years due to the pandemic. As far as paying off loans early, make sure to check for prepayment penalties. I would read the terms of the loan thoroughly before signing anything!
