Christmas came early this year boys! What you do is outrageous. Growing up i never thought i would be checking daily for an episode of a philosophy podcast. Withdrawing hard in your absence. I renewed my library card because of this show. From the deepest place in my existence, thank you.
return of the boss. Steven, when I found your channel few months ago I binged every video. i enjoy all of them and appreciate what you do. if you were to ever make a video on the Vedic philosophy or upanishads or how it influenced or was loved by many well known philosophers i think would be hit. have a great day!
I Listen To These When I Draw In My Room, My Mom Walked In And Asked Me Why A 13-Year-Old Listens To These Episodes In Her Freetime. I Had No Answer Lol
"that is silly, may as well wipe my ass before i take a shit! it makes no sense." or "yeah right whats next he's gonna dance on water and not get wet?' the absurd is a common ground for unity to arise without any real consent. its a experience in your mind that you share with another. knock! knock!
Im a fairly recent sub. Been binge listening to your channel while at work. I disagree w your ethics when it comes to government. Maybe we can talk some time
? I've listened to every episode and I dont remember him giving his personal views on the ethics of government. He always comes from the perspective and school of thought hes covering in the video.
@@whatdupdoh Does he not believe that government (the state obviously) is to be obeyed by any "responsible citizen"? Does he not think that paying taxes is one's "duty"? I heard him say something like... "let's say some criminal robbed the IRS of..." im sorry.... robbed the IRS? that, among other sayings, are what caused my comment. Salute to you Sir.
@@whatdupdoh obedience to "government" is like... well... to put it in an iconic form easy for anyone to understand... like the rebel alliance obeying the empire. simplistic i know, but the point is made. I'd like to talk with him about such a concept, in modern times. That's all...
I wrote this joke for chefs. Randomly bringing this up in conversation is how I usually start the joke. Did you hear about cronuts? Some guy in NY put together the idea of croissants and the idea of donuts. They were so popular that they were selling for $90 each at one point. (true story) Then over in Cali someone put avocado on toast and said, "I invented this." So, in the spirit of putting two things together, and saying "I made this," I invented my own thing. I'm going to put together donuts and dijon mustard. (dramatic pause for the lean in) I even have a trendy name for it. I'm going to call it, "Dij-nuts." The best part about telling this joke is knowing when I have two or three chef's rapt attention, and then the punch line lands. I've gotten differing reactions. Some laugh. More often than not there's an exasperated sigh, and a smile with a rolling of eyes as they realize they've been had by a deez nuts joke. Sometimes the slower ones say something like, "Was that all just a slow set up to a deez nuts joke?" After listening to this I think the problem with the joke is making the audience the butt of the joke. I think the superiority thing is sabotaging the joke. Or I need to deadpan the punch line. Usually my -- you know what -- grin ruins it. There's another theory, tragedy plus time equals comedy. Bad decisions make for great jokes when later on we have the ability to recontextualize the awfulness of what happened into something meaningful by pointing out our own folly. Comedy Central has a whole "This is not happening" subcategory on UA-cam where comedians get on stage and talk about terrible decisions, or horrific life circumstances. There's some shocking, and good stuff on there. It's gold. I highly recommend it. One time at work I had a guy tell me I had a Jew nose. He never apologized and later claimed that he was an insult comedian. The joke was on him because a Jewish coworker overheard the conversation, and ended his career in management. At one point I walked past both of them sitting across a table from each other having a serious conversation. I wanted to get a bag of popcorn, pull up a chair and stare. When guys, usually young men, take the, "It was a joke," route to try and explain away really inappropriate behavior as comedy, it kind of makes me mad. I wasn't dumb enough to think of your comment as a joke, and I'm not dumb enough to take your excuse at face value. It's like doubling down on stupid.
