    I don’t understand how someone can swim breaststroke so fast, with no arms and 1 leg. He was actually faster than the 3rd place, only losing out because the 3rd place could reach out his arm. I can’t imagine how hard he must have trained to be able to swim that fast, and I deeply admire him for his talent and extremely hard work to get where he is. Truly inspiring.

    Isn't it odd that the chinese swimmers are actually the 2 only ones that have all the 4 limbs? And both have 2 arms completely functional?
    Even if you watch them swimming the legs are up high and can do some strokes like "mermaid style", which makes me think that their legs aren't completely paralized and have some limited use.
    Doesnt seem fair competition against swimmers without limbs, 1 swimmer just has 1 leg for holy sake, he is using only his torso.
    How is this fair?

      I think more than anything there is a lack of athletes, unlike athletics where there are enough for a lot of different classifications. In athletics there are over 30 classifications whereas swimming has 10

    • @Sarablueunicorn
      @Sarablueunicorn 2 роки тому

      @@thenamelessdragon Doesn't have to be. When we learn how to swim we train legs and arms individually. And some people have stronger arms and some people have stronger legs. So someone using only their arms could beat someone using only their legs.
      Have you ever tried diving and went really deep, check what part of your body you use first to swim to the surface. Your legs or your arms?

    • @patheticmortal373
      @patheticmortal373 2 роки тому +16

      It's about their abilities. If someone has all 4 limbs but can't move his legs and has very weak arms he has a similar capability as someone with a strong leg with no arms. While having arms and legs is an advantage at first glance, you'll find that the legs produce a lot of drag in the water. While having no arms and one leg seems like a disadvantage, he doesn't have to deal with the drag of his arms and his one leg can give him a lot of thrust in the water.
      Para classification is very complicated, and lots of testing of strength, times, technique and more go into the decisions made.

      @@scz1770 It's really unfair, for some reason the guys with all the 4 limbs and a pair of strong perfectly able arms finished first.
      We also dont know their legs strength limitation, they seem to be able to at least keep the legs up and send some "mermaid" strokes, the legs are not pulling them behind but seem to keep them straight and in balance.
      Not mentioning the fact that they have arms to touch the wall first.
