Canucks dumping Kuzy was not a good look on Tic Tok and Allvin.Petey's game sucked after Kuzy left. Canucks essentially dumped him for nothing. Losing a first -rounder,fourth rounder, Brzustewicz ,Jurmo and Kuzmenko for 26 games and the playoffs in Lindholm is a trade that really,really stinks. This was a GIllis move and Allvin shot his wad a year or two before Petey can carry the club post-season.
Wasn't a fan of the moving Kuz but they did get Debrusk for nothing because of the cap space so no harm done. The 1st round pick (Matvei Gridin) that went with Kuz will be rough to watch if he turns out though.

Do the Flames have enough talent right now to challenge for a cup? Hell no. So why keep a guy 28 that is worth a good pick and will be too old by the time the Flames can make a run? That would not be good asset management. He will be traded.
Kuzmenko was acquired by Calgary as a cap dump. If they can turn him into a top 6 scoring forward or flip him for valuable assets I think they will be happy. Conroy may be unwilling to give him the salary or term a player of his skill typically gets though, which could make extending him difficult. Likely the sticking point for keeping him will be term more than salary, and I think Conroy will be reluctant to give him more than 4 or 5 years.
It's just trade any sort of skill they have for more picks or prospects
