Part 3: • Rafer Alston on Playin...
    Part 1: • Rafer Alston (Skip 2 M...
    --------
In the latest clip, Rafer Alston explained how he was introduced to basketball at five years old. He claimed the game came very naturally to him and that coaches told him early on that he could be next player to make it out of Queens. He also talked about one of his coaches working as a referee for tournaments sponsored by major drug dealers in the area. After making a call that someone disagreed with, his coach was fatally punched in the temple. Alston also described how he maintained his dream of playing basketball at the next level and didn't get sidetracked by getting involved in the streets.

When i was in college my dad was dying of cancer. He was confined to his couch. Every afternoon I would spend a few hours with him and we would watch And1 and drink Dr. Pepper. Professor was my favorite. Rafer was my father’s favorite. .

Nobody recognized him & he was eating in peace so I didn't make a scene. Just waiting til he walked pass & paid my respect. We ended up chopping it up for awhile...one of his teams was playing a team from my program the next day. Super cool & humble dude!

Will always be a basketball legend in my book. Was crazy hooked on this dude as a kid. Super fan of his. 1st one to actually go from Streetball to a successful NBA career in history. He wasn't a scrub in the NBA neither. He was your legit starting point guard around that time. Always had crazy handles with a jumpshot sweeter than Grandma's cookies. "Skip to my Lou" aka Rafer Alston...the streetball🐐

Very well spoken for a kid that basically educated himself on the street.. This is a guy who barely went to school and then went to Fresno St, which wasn’t a program that was known for education strictness… Coach Tark was a great coach but education was 2nd to the BBALL program.. Anyway, I’m impressed with Skips intellect for someone who raised himself on the street
