Is there certain materials that can be used in duplexes to create sound proof? The ability to hear one another in the units concern me.

Our local codes required fireproofing between units and let me tell you, you really cannot hear between them.
This was put to the test many times when I was in one unit and my husband was in the next. We had to call on our phones or come out to speak. Don't let that concern you at all!
