Six horses on a one-share plow - the ground must be very hard in addition to the resistance offered by the roots of the green cover crop. The video also shows clearly the long rectangular fields which do not require turning around as often as square ones and so require less headland. I have never seen the poling of alfalfa. What's the purpose?

Why does it matter if it is square or rectangle ? I see how the soil is the same.

Poling lays the alfalfa down so it can be cut in the opposite direction with a sickle bar mower more effectively without a lot of skipping.
