All true except for the bit about the Southern Cross being based on the St. Andrews Cross. The designer never mentioned the St. Andrews Cross as being the basis of his flag.

My 2x great-grandfatherwas killed in the battle of Shiloh April 6th 1862 they buried them in mass graves. He was stationed more mile from town at the head of navigation on barren River. Forced March leaving behind the tents and blankets. There are about a thousand troops and he didn't how many at Milcroa Hill. He fought under Ulysses s Grant.. 700 Confederate soldiers for stacked in layers of 7 deep. I know because i look up my family history
The White flag represented white heritage and superiority but also looked like surrendering so they added the Blood Stain Flag red bar. Based on the French flag
I think the confederate flag is beautiful. They have one at the Gettysburg museum behind the glass. I just stood there looking at it and found myself shedding tears.
Napoleonic generals were a lot more experienced that Civil War generals. French generals started their career as early as 1792 (revolutionary wars) and from then on they were in constant action. So they gained a lot of experience. Blucher, Kutuzov and other russians ans prussians generals took a good beating from french generals, but by 1813 they learned a lot from them. And Wellington, by 1815 had already 5 years of continuous fightings in Peninsular Campaign. So, in short, these generals had a lot of battlefield experience. On the contrary, Civil War generals were largely inexperienced. Just a handful of them saw action in Mexican War. And most of northern or southern generals never saw action before.

The second Confederate national flag was eventually deemed to be too easily confused with a surrender/truce flag.

Dont forget the 15th wisconsin. Made up of Scandinavians primarely Norwegians. Thay had a very pretty flag :-D

The Union Army units stationed in and around St. Louis that prevented Missouri from joining the Confederacy were composed mainly of German immigrants.

The troops were also veteran soldiers, not a rag tag volunteer militia
