It's a functional piece of art, just like the ROK espresso machine.
Great thanks! Cleaning it properly worked a treat
Wow! On 12/1/14 they're 5 days into the Indiegogo campaign and at 172% of goal for funding. Super Early Bird and Early Bird perks are sold out but you can still pick one up for $50 off list.
Plastic on the top gears? How about something a little more durable?
David Sullivan
Gears are made of Delrin an engineering thermoplastic used in precision parts requiring high
stiffness, low friction and excellent dimensional stability. It's also
lightweight, quiet and long-lasting. From all the materials tried it
was by far the best all-round performer for our set-up.
thanks for the video.
Is this grinder practical for grinding 8 grams or so, for two people each morning?
+Eric John Very practical! Has a really cool "sticky" base that holds fast to smooth surface so you can one hand it if you desire. We grind for double espresso - about 16 grams multiple times daily.
+Whole Latte Love Thanks for your response, WLL!
However, I apologize; I missed-typed. I meant is it practicle for 28/grams (basically pour-over or automatic for two) ??
i love clasic things :)
thanks for vid ^_^
Muhammad Muhammad You're welcome!
I'm a coffee newbie but in a lot of grinder videos I notice people recommending ceramic burr grinders, what's the main difference here with stainless vs. ceramic?
Ceramics hold their sharpness forever, don't transmit heat (which protects the beans during the grinding process), and can only break via a rock or something of that nature. The main problem with them is their high cost and lack of design flexibility (which is why you don't often find conical ceramic burrs).
Steel burrs are much cheaper and work almost as well, but they lose their sharpness over time. I currently use steel burrs (Mazzer Mini) and they work fine, but if you want ceramic I ain't stopping you.
nice! we are on indiegogo, too with our shortfilm-project. its not working really well, though :( do you have an tips how to reach more people? I would be grateful for any advice! :)
Help!!! I changed my Rok grinder to have clicks but it got stuck and does not move anymore, what can I do?
Never mind. The lower burr was stuck, it needed a little push. Thanks
Glad you found the solution! Sorry would have gotten back to you sooner but was at Specialty Coffee Expo in Seattle for a couple of days.
When or how can I get it?
Lobo Azul Bleu Hi, You can stay up to date here: www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-revolutionary-rok-coffee-grinder#activity
Is it better than OE Lido 2 grinder?
***** "Better" is a subjective opinion but we can say this: After using many hand powered coffee grinders like Hario etc. having a large stable base is appreciated. Always a pain to hold a hand grinder in one hand while turning the crank with the other. Also the cranking handle on the ROK is much longer so apparent user force is reduced - like gears of a bicycle. One thing that really stands out on this grinder is how "ROK" solid the burrs are! Zero wobble on the shaft due to 2 excellent bearings. With cheaper hand grinders burrs are all over the place and produce inconsistent particle sizes unsuitable for espresso use.
Thanks! Could you tell us the size of the burrs this grinder using? And will we be able to replace the burrs when they wears out?
You're welcome. I've sent a note to ROK asking for the burr size and will reply with that information when received.
Whole Latte Love Thanks a lot!

Burrs are 48mm hardened steel.
The clear plastic gear box cover detracts from the overall look of the grinder.
green carbon footprint - What a CROCK!
"DESIGNED AND ENGINEERED IN LONDON." Okay, but where is it actually made?
plastic gear shaft?
Milen Todorov Why aren't the gears made of metal? After
extensive tests of various materials we chose Delrin for our gears.
It's an engineering thermoplastic used in precision parts requiring high
stiffness, low friction and excellent dimensional stability. It's also
lightweight, quiet and long-lasting. From all the materials we tried it
was by far the best all-round performer for our set-up.
+Milen Todorov -- No, the horizontal and vertical shafts are both metal; the gears themselves are Delrin.
