  • In 2018 I went to Lesvos, Greece to volunteer at the refugee camps.
It was the most life changing week in my life and when I came back all I wanted to do was write about my experiences, but this subject was so immense that I could not get started. I did not know where to begin and to even think about an ending was impossible, cause sadly enough there is no ending in sight yet.
Meanwhile, I had so much in mind to write about but at the same time I felt so stuck, because my biggest fear as a writer is to say too much or just not enough, so I decided to put the pen down and let this one grow on me. “You can’t rush patience”
And within this process I found peace in this thing we call time and three months ago, everything came to me and I wrote this piece called Moria.
Moria is not an all-over story about my experiences there, but it’s a collage of mind-blowing stories from beautiful souls who shared them with us and which I think the rest of the world should hear too. I can write 10 more pieces with their stories and maybe that’s going to happen, but for now… here is the first one.
The video symbolizes the ongoing travel where refugees have to go through and also the story of two different men, at the same place In the same car, but having to deal with a far from comparable route.
Starring in the video is Yaser, my friend from Syria who I met at the camp in Lesvos. Miraculously he travelled all the way to Holland and ended up in the AZC in my city Rotterdam and now after years he finally got his document to stay for at least five years in The Netherlands.
The video is shot by filmmaker Rachid Pardo, one of my friends who I shared this trip to Greece with.
    Talk about circles of life…
    With love,
    Moze Naél
