    "I trust he will be more successful. "
    That line chilled my spine

    One thing I also appreciate about Goldfinger is he avoids the cliche of most James bind villains of “leave the room and expect him to die” he stays in the room. While he’s not 100% paying attention he’s still in the same proximity so he can be there for Bond to die and had Bond not done that hell Mary line Goldfinger might’ve won.

    Great scene! Cat and mouse dialog was the best! To me this escape was his greatest, but his escape from the funeral cremation oven is the one I felt was no way out.

    The dubbing job on Gert Frobe is so good that I didn't notice if for a long time. Frobe made a great villain. He's almost mischevious and childish at times, but he always has a real sense of threat. Bond is captive most of the 2nd half of the film, which I don't remember being the case in any other Bond film.

      Too right, a Bond where the action never lets up and all the major characters are memorable.

      The scene in the book makes no sense as no explanation is given as to why Goldfinger let Bond live. The books are too racist and sexist for today's modern readers, the films contain these elements also. Bond, though, has exciting scenes and gagets that changed movies

      I read somewhere that Sean Connery was actually panicking during this scene.

      @@georgehenderson7783 I believe you are thinking of Thunderball. and the shark. I quote, "As the cameras rolled, one of the fish got through the partition and a panicked Connery was forced to bale out of the pool very quickly!"

    Such superb villainy.

    Bond: You expect me to talk?
    Goldfinger: No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to DIE!
    Classic line.

      He would have just gotten tackled by Homer, and then shot dead anyway.

      How would even Mr James Bond reach into his pockets to flip throw a coin when locked down?

    I'm confused, by the looks of it Goldfinger doesn't know that Bond is lying about 008 so even if he kept Bond alive wouldn't it just have had the same affect, MI6 would still know about Operation Grand-slam?

    • @jarnodatema
      @jarnodatema 5 років тому +2

      If they kept him alive, MI6 would think he had things under control

    • @Blokewood3
      @Blokewood3 2 роки тому +2

      Technically Bond isn't lying about 008. If Bond dies, MI6 will be far more suspicious about Goldfinger than before and much more aggressive. 008 will most likely be sent to kill Goldfinger rather than merely investigate him. It's similar to how Bond often gets sent to find out what happened to other agents, such as 009 in Octopussy, 003 in A View to a Kill, 0012 in the World is Not Enough.

    In GTA V when Trevor Philps Shot a cop after the bank robbery and said you shouldn't have become a cop!
    I imagine of Goldfinger said to James Bond you shouldn't have become a agent!

    A visible red laser of that power (if it existed at that time) would have a beam about 10,000 times brighter.

    I give the writers some credit for cleaning up the heavy racism in the books, although racism is in Live and Let Die, Dr. No and other Bond films.
    Bond is a racist in the Goldfinger book

    He could have so easily called his bluff (he was right after all).

    • @bumhandle
      @bumhandle 2 місяці тому

      He would have if he had more time to think. Bond was able to pressure him because Gold had made the laser move so quickly -- he didn't have the time to think it over that would have satisfied him.

    Is that Mark Lamarr Goldfinger is talking to while Bond is worried about the Crown Jewels?

  • @bluehealer81
    @bluehealer81 Рік тому +1

    Everytime I watch this scene and I see Goldfinger casually chatting up the technicians after Bond mentions Operation Grand Slam, I always wonder how awkward it would be if their conversation was just a tiny bit longer. "Okay, you're right, we should keep him alive.... AAAAAAAAAARGGGGGHHHHHH!!!! Ohhhhh... uh.... nevermind."
