Why SHOULD they have to rename themselves when UB40 was & is all about REGGAE & not country music which is the direction that Duncan & Co seem to be going in???... if they want to change genre then THEY should change their name. Ali & Co SHOULD keep the UB40 REGGAE legacy alive. Sorry but Duncan is murdering all the classics which ONLY sound right when sung by ALI with Astro alongside him. Duncan has zero charisma or stage presence... he makes me cringe when I see him straining to sing with his wooden moves & IN MY OPINION they should give up now & admit defeat.

if Red Red Wine and Kingston Town are your idea of the classics, then perhaps you shouldn't be involved in this discussion,.,,, Brian will never join up with Ali, and as for the rest, what about Jim and Earl who wrote some of UB40's major songs? And Robin? Ali and co chose to leave, they should get on with life and leave UB40 behind, that's the only moral thing to do. As much as I love Ali and used to support him right until his last CD, I won't be bothered with him until he leaves this vendetta and namestealing. If you don't like Duncan's voice, you don't have to listen to them, simple. Follow Ali's new band instead, but realise that its a new band that shouldn't be using UB40's name. Emotion doesn't enter into it....
upstter Who plays the instruments in the band is not very important. It's all about the sound.
Instruments are the same, the vocals make the specific UB40 sound which can't be copied.

The others had their chance with the name, were making fun of themselves now we can just be glad Ali tries to take the name back. Should've done it earlier.
UB40 Archive huh? who plays the instruments is not important? do you know ANYTHING about music at all?? Anyway, besides anything else, you can't just "take back" a name when the original band is stil using it.. Ignoring legal issues, its morally and ethically wrong. Imagine Robbie Williams telling Take That "you had your chance, I'm taking the name now" - I've never heard of anything so ridiculous in my life.

Even with a house beat under their vocals you'll recognize them and think it's UB40.

Fact is without Ali Campbell there would never be UB40.
Musicians and instruments can be replaced easily, Ali's and/or Astro's sound is irreplaceable.
When people hear Ali Campbell and/or Astro on the radio they'll think it's UB40.
When people hear UB40, they'll know it's Ali and/or Astro.
When people hear Duncan, they'll think 'who's this bad singer?'
Ali is the frontman. Professional singer. His sound can't be copied. He will always be UB40.
I've seen lots of disappointed people with tickets for the karaoke singer.

AS much as you might like the new music, we can't have 2 UB40's - it confuses the fans and causes unnecesary ill-feeling and arguments. I don't see how you can say Matt & The DEP Band are the very essence of UB40 either. Robbie Williams didn't insist on calling himself "Take That" when he left, he was confident enough to go it on his own.. Are Ali and his band not confident enough in their music? And let's not forget that while Ali was an important part of UB40, Astro was a bit player on a few songs, and Mickey,,. well, lets just say that all the intricate keyboard playing on the records was not him. So saying they're the "essence" of UB40 is a bit of a stretch.,.. Exciting times ahead yes, but I would prefer if they found a name for their band and started marketing themselves correctly. Neither UB40, nor the long winded name they have on the new single is apt.
It looks like they are not even using the UB40 name for this song. I'd rather see them come up with a new catchy name instead of "Ali Campbell, the legendary voice of UB40, reunited with Astro and Micky". It's not like UB40 was such a great name anyways. Have some dignity, think of a new reggae-sounding name, move on and build a new brand/band. And on a side note, Ali, Mickey and Astro left the band. That was their own choice. And as Upstter said, you can't have two UB40's. Aren't these band names even trademarked or something?

Few weeks later backstabber Duncan was the new lead-singer when most fans were hoping they would come up with a professional singer.
Ali is UB40 and the name will always be linked to his sound. Many people still don't know about the split and just want to hear the original vocals when they go to an UB40 concert. Like I said, check Twitter. Search for Biggest Concert Disappointments for example.
Or try to find more then 10 positive tweets about Duncan. You won't find them.

Lots if people with tickets for Duncans UB40 are trying to get a refund. That's how they're destroying the legacy and name.
This song Silhoutte sounds more like UB40 to me than any song from the other UB40's last 2 albums.
When people hear this song on the radio, they'll know it's UB40.
When people hear a song by Duncan they'll turn it off thinking it's a cheap copycat.

OMFG THE REAL DEAL this is the voice and sound of UB40 but maybe Ali and the original guys could form their own name and leave the past behind cos I am confident that Ali's band will out do the wannabees. UB40 are coming to Doncaster Racecourse in June 2015 and I can't go without the real voice behind the band. someone tell me when Ali is coming up North cos I will be there!!
Cover or not this track has the soul of, and is, UB40 Luv it. Was given tickets as a gift to see UB 'not quite' 40 in Norwich this week just didn't cut it. The band were tight as you would expect but the new material was not UB40 As for the vocals woops!!

This is over produced, take way the vocals and it now a nothing like UB40, just standard reggae. Ali walked away from UB40 7 years ago and failed. If you think it's ok for him to start to use the name you need to question your own moral values. This is real life affecting real people - not reality TV.
Ali's last album was a Rock album, so at least he's getting back to reggae if nothing else...

As much as I love Ali and always have you cannot have 2 UB40s, I think he needs to rebrand himself and stop being so petty with the name. He actually left UB40 so its up to him to rename himself too xx

I am delighted to hear again the "real" spirit of ub40
Been following Ub40 since about 1979 / 80, joined their original fan club, used to get vinyl pre release tracks sent out, remember watching them Support The Police at a very wet MK Bowl.....must've seen them 30+ times, pained me to see them split, but that's families & bands for you, seen Ali on his own a few times, mainly at The Indigo & Astro joined him last time, Then saw Ub40 at Cambridge few weeks after, I'll call them Brians UB40 & Ali's UB40, both parties really need each other to create that unique sound, love the Brass that you get at Brians gigs, but also love the voice that you get with Ali's gigs, wish they could make peace, but not going to slag either side off, both will get an audience rocking, off to Newmarket this Friday to see Ali's ub40, but will go & see the others again, but i agree that Brians ub40 have developed a Country type sound, better when they stick to the originals, it's the fans that suffer, confusion all round, i have to check to see which UB40 i'm going to see when i now book a gig, not sure if either should be calling themselves UB40 now, think the word Formerly or some other combo should be used, who owns the DEP International label? With such a passion for 80s reggae & Ska again, pity they couldn't sort stuff out, they'd sell out huge venues worldwide & please their fans again, anyway, i enjoy seeing both, looking forward to the next album, & if this does somehow reach the ears of the guys, would love a DUB album, still listen to Present Arms In Dub, still one of my all time favourite albums(learning to play the drums, so great album to try to practise to). My thoughts are why should Ali Rename his band. Yeah he left but does that give people the right to tell him he shouldnt use the ub40 beand name??...I dont think so..Ali has every right to use this name actually we should be somewhat Happy he carried thw name coz the way his older brothers singing OMG.....Not the go peeps...And this is why Ali Campbell reclaimed the name UB40 to keep its legacy Alive...Not taking anything away from the band ub40 they are still good but without Ali ub40 doesnt hit the spot it use to. This cover is Amazing with Astro's vocals in the backround couldnt ask for more.
