Whenever I hear Leontyne's voice it's as though I have fell in love for the first time all over again. I get this overwhelming feeling in my stomach like I want to cry and smile and gasp. It's so exhaustingly beautiful that I can't get enough. I wish that I could have heard her live. Her voice reaches to the depths of my soul and caresses my heart. Thank you for honoring such an amazing artist.
Her voice above all, but also she should be remembered as a great American, a hero, an inspiration needed more today. I remember her as bringing opera to the soul. where all mortals could enjoy it, and she was my introduction to it as a teenager, love at first song! Now that I live in Mississippi, I can't help but remember this native treasure.
I was fortunate enough to hear her and Domingo at the Met in 1969. I was either going to or coming back from a year in Vietnam, and in my Army uniform, when I heard about such a performance and raced to the ticket office right off the plane to ask if any seats were available for the "Force of Destiny" and to my surprise, the clerk told me yes. For $7.50 I was given the 10th row, center front. Her voice was amazing. So clear and powerful and beautiful. It was a night to always remember. I think she was the greatest dramatic soprano of the last 50 to 60 years, in my opinion.
@@auscub213 No, just into reality! It wouldn't have been listed in English. The Met doesn't do operas in English unless they were written in English. They present operas in their original language!

La Forza del Destino! The Met doesn't do Italian opera in English!
@@brookeggleston9314 What a prissy pedant.

@@brookeggleston9314 Big deal. Anyway, it was probably “Il Trovatore” since she and Domingo didn’t sing Forza until 1977.
@@liedersanger1 Another point of reality!
Pure class
What a magnificent instrument.
Molto bene! Molto grazie.
DIVA!!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

My God!
what is the name of the song she is singing?? at the start of this video?
Vissi d'Arte, from Tosca
@Remalia19 Or, Puccini's "Tosca", as it were. ;-)
I have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player but still can't see this video. My computer doesn't support the browser option.
:)
Is she a mezzo soprano?
No.
