Fun fact: The cellists were just two guys who posted a video online of them doing this performance of smooth criminal and it immediately went viral so they were invited to be on this episode. They are now really big performers that tour around the world.
I have been wanting to see them for years… they are 2Cellos.
They’re fantastic in concert. I’ve seen them twice now. They even gave an impromptu comedy performance from one of them when they had technical difficulties with their cello’s pickup. It’s fantastic.

I’m late to the party but I got to see them a year or so ago for my birthday and I can totally say, wonderful present! They are such amazing performers it’s a thrilling experience and as a cellist it was so cool to see the amazing things they can do with such a cool instrument, highly recommend!

2CELLOS signed with Sony in 2011, released an album, went on tour with Elton John, performed on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, performed at the iTunes Music Festival and on numerous other shows all before showing up on Glee. They were classically trained artists posting videos of their art on UA-cam. They definitely weren't just "two guys" at that point. Yes, their cover of Smooth Criminal is what launched them into stardom, but they had quite the history.
Santana Lopez is easily one of the best characters ever written, and Naya Rivera brought magic to the character. RIP BBYGIRL ♥️♥️♥️

Fun fact: Grant and Naya were not told what to do. They got this setup with the chairs and the cello guys, but they didn’t have explicit instructions on what to do. This whole scene was improvised and the chemistry between the characters was made by the actors themselves ^^

Too be fair, there is very little about Glee that isn't massively cringy.
This is my absolute FAVORITE Glee cover the show ever did, mostly because they made the choice to make their version very different from the original. The song comes out of nowhere and feels weird in the scene, but at least it’s not just an Acapella version of the song, the cellos give it such a cool, unique twist.
Santana has chemistry with just about everyone. She has that type of energy.
She’s a lesbian, he’s gay, yet there was still more chemistry and tension in this performance than some of the actual canon ships in glee

I adore so much about this video and you're right, so much "enemies to lovers" in this scene. This cover, this scene, is literally the reason I started watching Glee. I heard the song on Pandora and was like "Its Grant/the Flash!" And had to know more about this scene. Both of them are beautiful, vocally she wins. But Grant's acting in this scene gets me every time! She exudes this calm confidence in her character. She's good - she's better. And she knows it. His character's confidence is out of necessity and as she proves she's better, you can see the insecurity of trying to mimick/match/keep up with her in Grant's face, especially when he follows her moving around the chairs. The difference in her *being* confident and him *acting* confident gives me life!

I really miss this show and the sheer talent they all had. Naya was my favorite. Was heartbroken when she was lost much too soon.

She should see some of the other songs Grant sang in Glee, this was a great one but doesn’t let him show his voice the best though he was mostly harmonies. Other covers he does he shines as well.

this scene was one of my faves in the whole show, the harmonies between grant and naya where spot on and i get chills every time i see it
If we're being honest, I don't know that he got to show off his voice to its full potential on Glee either. Grant is astoundingly talented (acting, vocally, and dance). This is one of the few non-cringey performances in the show that I still love. Their chemistry is better than any other duo on the show, romantic or not. And definitely Santana won that vocal battle but the two of them together made that song incredible - her belts combined with the speed and harmony he gave his parts just *chef's kiss!* (I'm convinced this played a huge part in the decision to cast him as The Flash 😉)
This was one of the main covers that got me into watching glee. The chemistry these two had together was stronger than some couples. This entire episode was great, loved when they did "tribute" episodes. Might have to rewatch this episode later. Thank you for the reaction. Here’s the context: Grant/Sebastian threw a slushy at Kurt in glee, to which Blaine protected him and took the slushy. The slushy had rock salt in it which scratched Blaine’s eye and now everyone’s basically super upset about it.
Also, S3 warblers are nothing like the warblers we know and love in S2.
Which is also how they excused Darren Criss out of the show so he could be in "How to Succeed in Business"

This is also my favorite piece from Glee. I was feeling very sad about Naya's passing and wanted to hear her sing again. Your comments mirror mine as you listened for the first time and I listened for the millionth time lol. Such a treasure lost so young.

I love Grant so so much. As a person, actor, singer, etc. I'm so happy for him and his family that has just expanded. I love that he's married to a Malaysian and is in support of all his cast members. I love all the work he's put into himself mentally, emotionally and physically. I'm so proud of all the progress he's made. What a lovely human.

I really loved this scene and I am so amazed by both of them but serious props to the cellists in their performance
The context is that Sebastian went to slushie Kurt during "Bad" but Blaine jumped in the way and got slushied (Sebastian has a crush on Blaine and hates Kurt). Inside the slushie was rock-salt and Blaine had to get surgery for it. Santana goes to Dalton to figure out what was inside the slushie and records the conversation in order to get the Warblers kicked out of the competition. However they dont go through with it because they want to win against the Warblers and dont wanna punish all of them to get to Sebastian.

So the Cellists were actually a very special guest for the show, they are a group known as 2 Cellos who a few months before this episode went viral on youtube for playing a cello only version of Smooth Criminal. The producers of Glee liked it so much they asked them to come to LA to perform the song for this scene, and they wrote the scene entirely for it.
The "cello guys" are actually 2Cellos, they have their own YT channel, albums, they make covers of quite a lot of songs (AD/DC, A Song of Fire and Ice, etc) and they have toured a number of countries! They're awesome.
I think you would really like “Take Me or Leave Me” it’s a duet between Mercedes and Rachel and they both sound fantastic!

I think they are both incredible. I don’t really want to decide a winner, because Grant’s character didn’t get to show off any dramatic notes, or anything special, like her character did. So I think if he had the chance too it would be more fair. But again splendid job, both of them. They were both fantastic. Her high notes, and his lower notes. Beautiful! I also really liked the harmonies and chemistry! It was one of the best things that my ears have heard.
