  • Henry Horton was one of Marshall County’s three Tennessee Governor’s. He is also the namesake of Henry Horton State Park, which sits on his previous estate along the Duck River. Enjoy the journey as State Naturalist Randy Hedgepath plays Governor Horton and walks us through his life’s story.

    Mr. Horton.
I want to thank you for opening up your land for people like to be able to enjoy. I’ve been a single father of my beautiful daughter for 17 years on my my own. I’m also a survivor of PTSD.
I’ve gone through therapy and refused medications because I feel they make you worse. Because you opened your land to the public I have survived my PTSD . As a single father I never had the time to enjoy the things I enjoy so that I could make sure my daughter was happy and loved. I gladly sacrificed as a father for her and I will never change that. But now that she is older I have found the best therapy I’ve ever had for my PTSD my camping on your back country sites. It has helped me in ways you will never know. Granted as a single father and a single income I can only afford to go once a year, but it gives me something to look forward to. I wish I could afford to go more, but I’m happy with what little I can get. Your park is absolutely beautiful and the staff is always excellent and very helpful. Again Mr. Horton . Thank you. I don’t know that my life would be the same if not for the time for peace and relaxation in your park. Thank you Sr.
