  • Joel Park is a grandmaster USPSA competitive shooter. He is also an instructor in the Practical Shooting Training Group alongside world champion Ben Stoeger and the “professor”, Hwansik Kim. These instructors have really taken the time to think about practical shooting and redefined the training techniques that have been taught for so many years. Joel and the other instructors are not shy about sharing entire classes online so everyone can learn and see what they are teaching. The nice thing about Joel is that he has an easy way about him and relays his ideas on shooting and teaching in a concise way.
    In this podcast you’ll hear:
-Why vision is the key to recoil control.
-How muscling the grip does not help your shooting.
-What Joel thinks about using dryfire to work out problems in shooting.

I’m paraphrasing here but, “Impress them with how simple & easy it is to understand to shoot. Teach how to practice, assess, and train to get results.”
“Constantly reevaluate things and be willing to make changes.”
They put out all that free content to not only to help, but to be inclusive. This grows the sport/passion of shooting. We need to get more people to enjoy this hobby to further strengthen it. People will continue to fill up their classes because they see the value their training brings.

Pretty much everything I've learned about shooting pistols and any improvement over the last two years I learned from watching Joel and Ben,. (And I have one of their books) The most important thing I learned was HOW to learn and how to teach myself how to improve. Feedback and constant attention in as relaxed a way as possible. I latched on to these guys because what I saw was their commitment to learning and improving themselves. If they teach a class in my area and I hear about it in time I'd go just for the intensification experience. and to meet two teachers I respect.

And I will say that after I started running a Dot and being Target focused it made iron sight shooting easy because I still shoot target focused and my hits got better and it's exactly like he said

I find that if I put my mental focus on gripping hard with my support hand, my firing hand will automatically grip the gun as hard as it needs to without me thinking about it, and I'll still be able to move my trigger finger as quickly as I need to. If I do put my focus into my firing hand, it's purely to focus on what direction I'm putting pressure on the grip with my firing hand. If I focus on applying pressure straight to the rear, not applying any pressure sideways at all, then it really helps me pull the trigger straight to the rear as well
