- I hope you guys enjoy these classics. I have been carrying them around for almost 40 years. There's a story behind each commercial. These represent the creative work of David Schackmann, Denny Christine, Denny Grayson, John Lyons, & Paul Saas as creative directors. The trade-outs are pretty obvious. Paul Nugent is probably responsible for those. There's a lot of Bill Ramsey in there. My favorite is my "dancing sofa beds" spot in which Ramsey did the choreography and Tom Von Hoene did the editing. (Von- Hoene- A-Tech.) The production managers were Tom Silberman, Denny Grayson and Bob Wolpert.. I think Wolpert shot the Glen Este film. The work of Bob Stothfang, Ty Clear, Rene' White, Rhonda Kramer and Larry Glazer is all in there. (Rhonda is the model and spokesperson in case you don't recognize her).
Also, check out the take on John Lyons when Cathy leaves the set in the "Passport to Pleasure" spot. And, of course, the dulcet tones of the greatest announcer and audio producer ever, Greg Eversull. They called him "Mario." I never knew why. Please comment freely on what you remember about these times. It was a "gas."

Wow the women singing in the black and white dress after the 6 minute mark is my paternal grandmother who passed away when I was 6 it's amazing to see her on stage again
man, i remember these.. i wish i was a kid again.. i could recite these by heart when i was a kid.. thanks for the memories
Wow! Swallen's AND early Kwik Brothers! What a treat. Thanks.
7:02 TV commercials for radio stations are the best! And this a classic that defies an easy description.
6:02 This band once opened for Murph and the Magic Tones. 😎
Good Ole Channel 19. At least that is was it was to me in the late 70s, early 80s. And Swallens? Yes, I bought stuff at Swallens in Middletown.
Hear - hear! It was Swallens on Red Bank Rd (Cincinnati) for me!
I love looking at these
this brings back WONDERFUL memories when i grew up in cincinnati! thank you so much for posting this...WOW.. its like being a kid again...
I traveled the whole country for work so I got to see a lot and I’m still here in Cincy.
Thanks for the memories
I just love the constant 60Hz hum... makes me miss home.
Thank you so much. I'm glad that there are so many old TV and radio broadcasts on UA-cam. Makes me wished I would have taped more.
I swear the Imperial House Motel band commercial has the same couple from the coupon commercial haha
thank you for sharing......time flies by
Bought my Pioneer Supertuner III car stereo at Swallens in 1987. Best radio I ever had.
Isn't that around the time they started putting subwoofer preamp outputs on car stereos?
@@bodeine454 it was all about the tri axe speakers back then.. all volume, no bass
Great collection! I remember most of these. Thanks for posting! (The music bed on Jack's Camera sounds like KPM.)
I remember going to the Glen Este Speedway in 1972. Tealtown ball parks are there now.
I remember when 32 wasn't even there... nobody could find glen este on a map!
Anyone remember the Daisy bread tune from the Uncle Al show? Still going through my head!!!
Love that lady's alto voice
singing Godspell's(1973) Day by Day @ 6:04
That's my mom Sandy. Omg. Been crying all day . Just now seeing this. She was amazing. Thanks so much.
LOL, if you had some from the late 70's early 80's I'd love to see those. I was in front of the TV WAY too much when I was a child and I always watched channel 19 because they had the best cartoons and sitcoms.
WXIX, channel 19, the first channel outside of Dayton after We got cable. I remember the "King Kwik" commercials, and thinking that those were two different Men, not understanding the split screen in television.
I'm completely fascinated with the Jack's Camera commercial.
Yes Michael that would be my Dad, Greg Eversull. Also, the voice of Swallen's for many years. :)
WEBN in Cincy and WVUD in Dayton!!! The very best in rock back in the day!!!
Mike Snyder I remember when WVUD switched their programming. We just got back from vacation and I turned on the radio in my bedroom. I yelled at my brother for “changing the station” and touching my stereo. Lol. I couldn’t for the life of me find “100 Rock” on the dial. And like that it was gone forever.
I wonder if those coupons were that guy's "Passport To Pleasure" with the girl? And was one of those "three great supper clubs" the Beverly Hills, where 164 died in a 1977 fire (but John Davidson escaped)?
Yep, the good ol' days of creative, fun local TV. The WEBN spots were the best. Thanks for the laughs, gang! Saas
This is circa 1974. The clothes and "new album from loggins and messina" dates it.
I miss swallens, bought my first quad stereo system there with an 8track! And I miss steakers too. It's funny I knew the Quick brothers, who is actualy Mr. Tandy. Also bought some stuff at Sun Furniture. And WEBN when the Wood family was in control, is when it was really great.
Thank's for the memories.
Back in the day Sansui made the best stereo equipment.
I wonder who the redhead was in the Jack’s Photo commercial. She was beautiful.
She was later Rhonda Kanet, and worked at WKRC in the 80's, first as a sports reporter and then producer of PM Magazine, as I recall. There is a Cincinnati PM Magazine outtake reel somewhere on UA-cam.
What I really need to see is a Kash D. Amburgy commercial.
This may be as close as we'll get for today. ua-cam.com/video/ZtEZNZ9FEBk/v-deo.html
@@kwebster62 That was awesome!
I remember the Cash Amburgy commercials pretty well, I grew up in Middletown, Ohio....My wife, especially her parents, knew the Amburgy's well. Her father is now a Bishop, I believe that they used to preach together some or walked in the same circles. My wife isn't here for me to ask at the moment she's out running some errands....
The old country boy from South Leeeeebanon Ohio. Save Cash with Kash!
@@kurtfrancis4621 LOL - "FOLLOW THE ARROWS! FOLLOW THE CARS! TO CASH'S BIG BARGAIN BARN!"
'Super Club'?! I haven't heard those words in ages.
Still searching for the Steinbergs “Ooops Sale” commercial from this era of Cincinnati television with its “Wrong colored refrigerators...Ooops!” and disco blinged dishwashers!
Omg my mom had a stereo just like that. I became quite good at changing the fuses.😁
Someone needs to post the Steinbergs Oops Sale commercial with the “wrong color dishwasher” blinged like a disco ball.
Seeing that really makes me want a plaid jacket! Awesome, stop motion furniture! Wonder what would happen if I called that number to book the Story? Thanks EBN. A pollen ball. Just what an allergy sufferer wants to see!
"Mario" is from Mario Andretti, Greg Eversull was a bit of a sports car buff. He had, at one time or another, a Triumph Spitfire, 2 Austin-Healey Sprites (Bugeye) that he restored, either a Triumph GT6 or MGB-GT (I can't remember which!) and maybe one or two that I forget! He got me interested in sports cars when he started dating my sister, whom he later married. He was also known as "Mr. Music" because of Romper Room.
The voice in the Sun Furniture ads sounds so familiar.
Swallens was the BEST place to buy electronics in the day!!
Tressler Comet and Taconic Terrace WOW those were the days!!
I believe the voice in the Sun commercials is none other than Dusty Rhodes.
Man. I lived out in Cherry Grove as a kid. I sure do remember WXIX shows and commercials.
When I was a kid Tresler Comet gave away Cincinnati Reds baseball bats. I think they were H&B bats.
I miss the Double-K Beer commercials: it was GREAT seeing Bob Shreve in DOUBLE-VISION!
When I was young, we saw Bob Shreve at the F&N. I asked him where his brother was :(
Around 1976, when a was a teen, I bought a Sansui receiver along with a Pioneer turntable and speakers from the Swallen's in Whitehall. I wonder if that first commercial influenced my decision? Truly though the staff was very knowledgeable about what they sold. Always bought LP's there because of the selection and price. Still have the shrinkwrap on a few with the Swallens price.
The "new" Glen Este Speedway? My research concludes that they closed down in 1972. Did they try a relaunch elsewhere in another place in Union Township and failed? Or did they reconfigure the track before closing?
Back then webn played classical music on Sunday
"Robert Hall, this season, will show you the reason... Low overhead... Low overhead..." I plan to sing this little 1950's ditty on my death bed! LOL
God this was a great country at one time.
At One Time
can somebody ID that song at 0:34
When I was growing up ('60's) UHF broadcasting was pretty much limited to college stations...one of the early lures for cable TV was to get independent local channels like WXIX or WUAB (Channel 43/Cleveland, which carried the Indians' games) without having to get a separate UHF antenna--which often didn't get good reception anyhow...
king tire streak sale... that would never get aired today! LOL
How do I find more old tapes from WXIX.. My Mom is Alice Davidson, worked there about that time frame. How bout some old scream in tapes with Alice hosting with Mr Whopper, pre Cool Ghoul!!
Wow! This is so UHF and so retro. LUV it!!!!
I have vague memories of a common metromedia bumper airing in the early 70s on channel 19. Most if not all the Metromedia stations used it, and there is one posted on here for channel 11 in Minneapolis. Does anyone have the one for channel 19 that they can post?
I was maybe 3 or 4 years old when it aired, so I barely remember it, but I recall it being cool.
I remember it, would say “metro-media nineteen, nineteen, nineteen”
6:01 Oddity Archive brought me here.
My parents Jack and Sandy were the Vibrations. Just found this from a friend. Bittersweet
@ the 2:35 mark, what's the dark haired woman's name in this commercial? She's beautiful!
Sounds more to me like Greg Eversull.. He was THE voice of Channel 19 for many, MANY years!
It was the ones with the "M's" (standing for Metromedia) dancing across the screen.
Man, it's like '70s commercials were just stuck in that special spot between the standard '50s/'60s commercial formula (i.e. take like a minute and a half to explain what it's about) and the current formula (kitschy, gimmicky, effectively mindless). I honestly think it's a perfect balance.
Also, I love this city. Been here for nearly a year now. So far, better than the Central Georgia region by a long shot. Just tried to look up that band, The Story, and didn't find any helpful info, just another band from the '90s with the same name. Shame they didn't seem to make it, I think they sounded kinda good.
who was the couple in the pasport to plessure commericals
Great times.
R I P to my old friend Steve Snyder from the band The Story who had a local record called Rock and Roll Way and Sweet Lalainia...And no they were not the "Brother Louie " Stories band.
looking for the opening to The Big Show overlooking the Ohio river. please let me know if you have it
Would like to see a WXIX newscast from this this time period
WXIX really didn't get into news programming until the late '80s. Before then, they would have a sort of 5 minute nightly news recap, where their house announcer would read the headlines with some sort of still graphic on screen. And of course there would be their buried-in-the-early-morning public affairs programming.
All I learned was in the 70's you could use a coupon on a date and it wasn't a deal killer
💖 THAT WOMAN'S
VOICE, AS SHE SINGS GODSPELL'S "DAY BY DAY.
CLASSY LOOKING IN HER
BLACK AND WHITE COLOR
BLOCK DRESS.🌹🍷
Quad, baby!
I Wish someone can find and upload a classic animated WEBN TV spot featuring Tree B. Frog and his friend Tyrone Z. Dragonfly.
I always liked those King Kwik commercials (around the 7:35 mark, toward the end of this clip), and the store itself.
The WEBN commercial is from 1974. "On Stage" was released in April of 1974
102.7 WEBN RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROCKS CINCINNATI!
Same time as the Saylor Park tornado in the Super Outbreak....I love listening to WGRR in the present day and WEBN used to be as popular as WLW.
OMG, frank wood.
A.K.A. DJ Michael Bo Xanadu.
Dude (Frank) used to be YOUNG!!!
Thanks for sharing these - is Swallen's still around? It was the hottest ....
Swallen's went bankrupt overnight back in the late 1980's is my guess - maybe early 90's. Look it up on Bing.com.
Tim Carter
Thanks, Tim. The memories linger ....
*****
1994 is when Swallen's went out. The last one's remaining were in Tri County and Western Hills.
Thanks, mojorisen.
Swallen's went "down the tube" in 1995 as I recall. After the founder Pat died "the boys" sold out to some
A-rabs; the liquidated the firm.
Back when WEBN was the best rock station in the country. Too bad that changed so dramatically.
Much better when the Wood family owned it, now it’s the same corporate crap you can hear anywhere
Born and Bread in the Queen City.
Long live the nati.
Do you have the Metromedia bumper for channel 19 from the early 70's?
It's the one with the dancing "M's" going across the screen and similar to one here on UA-cam for channel 11 in Minneapolis.
I asked previously but figured my request could have been too deeply buried within my overall comment to be noticed.UPDATE: Dancing M's bumper was uploaded a couple of month's ago:ua-cam.com/video/fHBX8vUmOy0/v-deo.html
+John Smith Oh You Mean? "Metromedia Television! 19, 19, 19!"
Vaughn Baskin Exactly! That was awesome. I think I was three years old when that aired.
John Smith I'm looking for that bumper as well!
Someone finally uploaded it a couple of months ago:ua-cam.com/video/fHBX8vUmOy0/v-deo.html
BACK TO QUAD!!!!
The amazing thing is Sansui was a good brand at that time. Now, it's junk because they sold off use of the name.
Rinks bros
You don't happen to have the original Kings Island jingle anywhere do you?
(Fun is just a smile away so take a happy break today at Kings Island! C'mon get happy!)
Remember the coupon book I do.
Mmmm that Sandy Lee....
Wonderful AND depressing.
Recliners!
Im a Cincinnati boy
@KiddJetix LOL.... Hmmm the early 1970s... old men had all the tattoos, and the only thing that ever saw a razor was women's legs and armpits!
Hide a beds!
I remember none of these.
I miss WEBN!
WEBN Is still alive and rockin' Cincinnati after 51 years!
I listen to webn on iheart
@@Desertvanlife Tree Frog Beer!!!...
It's a shame WEBN and pretty much all local radio is now owned by corporations and not locals like the Wood family with WEBN in the beginning.
@@Leboman2010 I HATE "I Heart Radio"!!!
all of this talk of Cincinnati media makes me think of WKRP,. as God is my witness I thought turkeys could fly......
