I'm from Romania, our ancestors, the Dacians had a ritual that was so interesting...When a member of the community died they throw a party, get drunk, start singing and dancing because they thought life is immortal and this body of flesh is just standing in their immortality, that's why Roman Empire had very hard time conquer Dacia, because they fight like crazy, without the fear of death. I love you too man, you inspire me so much.
    I salute you all!

I listened to this and another of your videos as I worked out under the night sky. I write this now, drenched in sweat, my hands shaking from the exercise. Thanks for the words, brother. You have done an endless amount of good to me and many others. I couldn’t agree more with what you said about death.
    7. Ecclesiastes
1 A good name is better than a fine perfume,
and the day of death better than the day of birth.
2 It is better to go to a house of mourning
than to go to a house of feasting,
    for death is the destiny of everyone;
the living should take this to heart.
The day we die is when all we were in life is put on display for all to see. Whether we were good or bad men, we all die. And in that moment, we can longer become better or worse. With our last breath we seal the name(reputation) given to us- a good one or a bad one. The day of birth therefore is meaningless. What we make of ourselves as we make our way to that final sleep is what matters. May we be remembered with a smile because we did all we could do, and not with tears at having lived life like any other, not having done much and regretting every second of it.

The thing about music is they destroyed it on purpose. Just listen to rap/ hip-hop/soul/ rock from the 70s-90s the music had a purpose, it told a story it came from the heart. Just look up that they did to Lupe fiasco he tried to make a rap album that was positive and they banned it. That's just one story there's many more

I'll like to insert some of my pov. Music, as enjoying as it may be, entirely sedates us. It sets us to consumer or passenger mode. Music ends up serving as a medium for feigned emotion. We trick ourselves to thinking we've had a emotional outlook through music. Rather than live a rationale life filled with purpose, we end up utilizing such consumer media as youtube and music to fill our thoughts.

This was great, been having similar thoughts lately about Stoicism. It really pulled me out of a deep hole by teaching me to control my emotions and accept the things I can't change, but as I get stronger I feel myself growing out of it. In many ways it is a slave mentality that teaches you how to cope not thrive, there needs to be something more profound or transcendental that we aspire towards.
I enjoy your stuff and have for a long time, would appreciate content where you flesh out a coherent philosophy that can help us grow past Stoicism, which is more a pathway out of suffering than a map to a meaningful life.

People are too afraid to get hurt, but the pain is what you need in order to grow! I'm so grateful for getting cheated on, back-stabbed, and lied to from people in past. I can relate to music, I stopped listening a while back and I caught myself doing it again, I'm going to listening to metal when I'm lifting. As far as stoicism, I tried reading Ryan Holiday but you are right, it's better coming from the source itself, I actually found myself having those depersonalization thoughts with myself because of meditations but it made me take life less serious and just live. I think if you have a strong enough philosophy you’re good because music, just like any form of art is always up for interpretation. You take what you need from it and leave the rest. But i do agree that if you arent aware enough you can easily be blinded by the lyrics and be fed thoughts that may be mistaken for original.

Well versed opinion my friend. On my opinion, music does make me think a certain way,but i still think that it is valuable to add a little spice to one's life(to enhance the soul within so to speak). So the possible solution i came up with was to listen to music without lyrics.Like instrumentals, orchestra or similar. Its working for me because everyone interprets chords of an instrument differently, but if someone sings"life is shit"it doesn't leave a lot of room for interpretation.

So glad to see a long video by you. I think music has it's benefits, and even more making it because it is a craft. It is one of the things that bring my life meaning and that's why I continue to do it. It'll be part of my legacy in the end. But it must be done so in moderation like everything else. And the kind of music that one listens to matters, because it is input that goes on your psyche. About death, there is much power with accepting it. It is hard but it is liberating, though it is difficult.

I stopped listening to sad music about a year or so ago, & man, I do not know how much that change is responsible for who I am today, if at all, because I've made & had a lot of changes the past few years, but I am truly grateful about having parents. I fixed my relationship with them. My personal circle has decreased a lot, & I have just one person I'd consider a friend. I stopped trying to find friends. I truly find I can live life with very few friends, none of close to it. My parents are the most important, & then some family members just by their relation to my parents, & maybe a few women I would choose to be the mother of my children. Everyone else is solely business.
I think music has it's use if you know what you're doing with it. Sure, I would suggest the baseline would be no music at all, but ideally, I would suggest using music to your advantage. I'm an entrepreneur, & reducing negative music reduced creative edge over my best natural form. I don't think music, sad or not, or any fucking thing in the world could reduce my love for my parents, first & foremost, and God, my higher self, etc, so I've been reintroducing some negative music & the benefits have been good. I treat the chaotic nature of life as feminine & any negative music I listen to, such as heartbreak, etc., I associate it with that. I know it sounds twisted, & that's fine. My reasoning is life's chaotic nature can be ruthless, but not indomitable.
Regardless of what kind of music, positive or negative, I am very picky about it in the way that I find something that's good for my use by an artist that also has some songs I wouldn't ever listen to. Popular or not, doesn't matter to me. I look for music that I can understand what spell it's doing on me, bonus points if it's honest about it. Some people let music control themselves, especially when you listen to whatever the fuck airs these days on radio, in malls, etc. Garbage for the mind. It's program, or be programmed. Life can't be all positive or negative. I've realized being too content can slow you down, & being too unsatisfied won't let you slow down. Program yourself, or be programmed. Make the choice with closure, certainty, or have the choice made with uncertainty. Note, my advice is for people who want something out of life for a select few & themselves first, & then a higher purpose. Like Mazlow's hierarchy.

High Thumos! Great 40 minute video, man.
Honestly, most of these topics are perplexing and complicated. Very depressing too! Lots of uncertainty.
We have no role models. We shouldn’t try to win the love of the audience of plebs. Death is coming for us all. Have a philosophy or something to believe in without being too serious. Stoicism as the philosophy of validating inactivity and stagnation. Censorship perpetuated by the institutions and social media companies.
This all sounds so bad. It’s easy to believe that there’s nothing more to these things or that it’s futile to investigate these things. Nihilism seems to be just around the corner. What you mentioned are things we cannot control.
We men need something that’s missing, but I think that we can only build it together! We’re piecing things in our individual together little by little, but it’s not something that can be done ever in isolation.

Since rap music has become so popular young people (kids, teens, early 20s) have put black people on a pedestal. They use their slang, blast their music, adopt their ideals. It seems like music almost single handedly decides what’s cool or what isn’t. And whatever music you listen to you will start to change your identity based on it. If you listen to rap you’ll start talking differently, using black people’s slang, dressing like rappers. If you listen to metal you’ll change your hairstyle, dress in all black, wear chokers and shit. The more you listen the more you will lose your own sense of self and morph into whatever you are listening to. Musicians have the most influence over the youth, they’re like puppeteers and we are the puppets following their lead

I would agree regarding the point about music. I started reading whilst I was outside instead of listening to music, for quite a long period of time (over the course of the various lockdowns) and felt happier. I've recently started listening to music again when outside, and can see how I often feel happy when I start listening to it, and in a short period of time my mood has almost completely reversed. I can clearly see that the happiness I often experience when being outside comes from within, and does not come from the music - music covers it up and disconnects me from it. This may not apply to everyone but it's something I've experienced.

I’m interested in this, on the drug take, I know before I’ve taken a week or 2 off of listening to any music and when I get back to my Spotify playlist it just feels differnt, to me it’s like when I stop smoking weed after weeks on end and come back to it, I get stoned WAY quicker with less, i feel the same way with music after having extended breaks, my 2 cents.

listen to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye and tell me again hip hop doesn't have instrumentation/synths etc. That album is sonically a masterpiece and half the songs on there are masterful guitar and synth mixed together. Especially Power, Gorgeous, Hell of A Life. Listen to those songs and you'll expand your perception of Hip Hop

Im just realizing that nobody hast really taught us how to think. We learn how to solve problems, how to operate, how to do but we never were taught to ask the why.The perfect definition of a robot. But what was it like for Nietzsche to think?Did he just go wherever and put his mind to it?How did he start thinking of to get the mind going or get in the mood of it?Thx to my journey, which started on meditation(which i stopped doing)i have learned how to think of nothing, but now how do i think and develop myself?I guess ill just take it little by little and build up the ability to do so.

Music is, in fact, spell-like. Look at how often women swoon over men with great singing voices or who know how to crush it on a guitar (devastating combo when you have both)
Music is not all bad. You can avoid being seduced while also being the seducer.

@@MinecraftKid120 not a knock on him at all, but it’s very Plato-esque (Plato was highly skeptical of the arts and that which arouses the senses) and can easily be argued to clash with a worldview grounded in stoicism, but I’d ultimately side with someone like Nietzsche in this realm (“without music, life would be a mistake”)
I’ve previously written here too that being an active participant is leagues above being a passive listener, and I think he too would concur, given his ability to scream (metal) and rap.

The magicians and heroes/villians of old... of the story books are still here today.. The musicians are the Bards.. The Actors and television personalities weaving spells that make you believe the illusions are reality. The heroes are shoved into sports to keep them too busy with thier egos to stand up for the weak.. Music is a spell.. its the magnetic personality of special people mixed with the emotional trigger of the instrument sent through the power of natures wood/brass/metal to vibrate your soul in a special way.. Televison and movies replace your experiencee by sending you empathic situations sight/hearing/emotional music.. triggering your spirit to react to things that arent even real.. The saits tossed to the side like always so they dont get in the way of the sinners climb to the top of the crap pile. Everyones goal in life is one of the 7 deadly sins... and none of the virtues.. People think the good peeople are the bad guys and the bad guys should be emulated. Scorcerey .. Binding magic of the souls of the weak. Magic is not fantasy.. It is the seduction of the mind into thinking the unreal is the real and that fantasy is real and sucks the magic out of reality itself. We live in the magic and are the gods.. But we are tricked into thinking wee need help from actors and men in suits who cant even speak unless someone writees down thier words for them. Evil running throughg the streets but people only think reality happens on the tv news and youtube videos so they dont go out there and stop it. Where are the heroes.. There aree plenty of dragons to slay.. Maybe the dragons will just die of old age when they realize there is noone to even protect the pile of ggoldd from because everyone thinks they are the damsel in distress waiting to be saved..
