  • In this video, ceramic artist Ana Vizurraga demonstrates the techniques used in antiquity to create Tanagra figurines. This video was created in conjunction with the exhibition, "Recasting Antiquity: Whistler, Tanagra, and the Female Form," on view at the Carlos Museum from February 3 through May 19, 2024.
Ana Vizurraga is a distinguished ceramic artist and art educator based in Atlanta, Georgia. With a Bachelor of Visual Arts in Ceramics from Georgia State University (1982), she brings her expertise to both the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, where she teaches pottery hand-building, and the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University, serving as an Education Program Specialist. Her studio is situated in Atlanta's Lake Claire neighborhood. Vizurraga's artistic expression is deeply autobiographical. She draws from the natural world and the rich cultural heritage of her Danish and Peruvian lineage. Her work embodies a unique aesthetic influenced by Danish Modern design and ancient South American ceramics, reflecting a harmonious fusion of these diverse backgrounds.
