    Excellent advice about 'not taking away the the rats' smell'...makes such sense when you think about it!
    Superb Care Video...as always!

    Absolutely love your set ups! I've wanted to try and add branches etc. to my cage for ages but haven't got round to looking at what's safe and where the best place is to get them from. That will be next on my list of things to do! Also just wanted to clarify, would shavings like bedmax be suitable to go in a garden compost? We're buying a house this year so I'm looking forward to having a garden and trying to compost as much rat waste as possible as I hate throwing it in the bin! Thank you!

      Yep bedmax and similar are very good for compost.
      I really do need to do a video on safe woods and branches

    Thank you for sharing! I love this kind of set up! Do you have a list of safe trees that we can use branches from for our rats? I've seen hazel, apple, and beech around so assume they are good options - is there anything else?

    • @IsamuRatCare

      Basically good ruler of thumb is any branch with fruit or nuts that are edible to humans when raw is safe as long as you dry it out well. The same with anything on a decent rabbit safe list however rats can have more than rabbits so the top bit trumps a rabbit list even if the thing isn't safe for rabbits

    You mentioned in your bioactive video that your setups kind of allow your rats to litter train themselves, could you do a video on that sometime? I want to work my rats towards litter training so I could think about moving towards a bioactive setup someday

    Hello! I hope you answer questions. My babies have super sensitive respiratory systems. I just got aubiose recently moved from fleece and now have to treat them for respiratory issues , they are all sneezing and are whistling from their nose its not in their lungs . I've treated them a good few times prior to using aubiose. Now the boys are lazy and they may wee on their hammocks now they have no levels. I'm afraid that leaving for a week as they wee on hammocks will set them off again and everytime they are set off its a vet visit I've a good setup they are just lazy. Please give me some advice. Also sorry I will move to paper pellets and not use aubiose this week . Waiting for delivery. I also wonder if i should have just waited until I changed the bedding before going to the vets for treatment but one of my rats got a permanent whistle from his uri so I never want to take the chance.

      Have they got worse or unaffected with the aubiose and what did you use before. When you say URI symptoms what are you seeing

    I think I'm doing alright with clean out. I replace hammocks once a week, I use cardboard substrate which I replace every week, the plastic shelves I clean daily as one of my rats had a uri before I had him, so I'm really careful with ammonia build up. I find anything wooden hard to clean though for example log tunnels. I replace the bedroom paper daily but I probnsly don't need to, and I clean out the food dish daily with that friendly green bottle spray.
    I use aubious for the litter tray, a 20kg bag will probably last a year lol

    • @IsamuRatCare
      @IsamuRatCare  4 роки тому +3

      Try putting the wooden stuff outside for a couple of weeks. Then give a clean down and anti bacterial spray when it comes in. It does a far better job than scrubbing

      @@IsamuRatCare thankyou, I will try that then 👍. I've just done the beaphar spot on for both rats just now, one hated it, the other kind of let me do it and then finally said that's enough. They are scraping it though and licking their paws after. 🤔

    • @ndavies5968
      @ndavies5968 4 роки тому

      Sorry to bother you again. This spot on beaphor stuff. Will I need to apply it again. Or will one shot work for 4 weeks and then the lice should go completely?

    • @IsamuRatCare
      @IsamuRatCare  4 роки тому +1

      I’ve always found that one treatment is enough for 4 weeks. In some cases you may have very stubborn lice that need weekly treatment for 3 weeks

      @@IsamuRatCare OK thanks. I've checked both bucks over and all I see now is scabs and no lice. So looking good. Just to be clear, 1 pippette is 1 treatment right?

    What do you use for the litter trays? Pelleted paper bedding? Your set up looks like lots of fun and I'm sure it keeps the girls busy.

    • @IsamuRatCare
      @IsamuRatCare  4 роки тому +3

      Yep it's paper cat litter, well ones specifically sold for small animals over here called back to nature but I'd use the slightly cheaper cat version but for the fact i win bags of it at rat shows so it's free lol.

    I've found my one male, captain, always can tell me when something needs cleaning. From what I can tell hes sensitive, if it's not clean enough he ends up making a laughing sound frequently. Always goes away once things are clean, luckily I do manage to do it before thne most of the time. But I have been a bit Ill for the last months.
