I just can't get past the thought that the older people in these shows from the 50's were born in the 1800's. Some of the older people in 1940's films were even alive in "old west" times.

In 1968, I worked in a restaurant and there was one guy there named "Pops" who was in his 90's. (Very spry - he scraped the dirty plates before giving them to the dishwasher. A makework job - The owner was a softy.) Anyway, if he was in his 90's in the 1960's, that means he was born in the 1870's - meaning he was already an adult before there were airplanes, cars on the roads, radio and television, antibiotics, skyscrapers, etc. I wish now I'd have talked to him more.

@@ROGER2095 That's cool. My great grandmother was born in 1878. She passed away in 1976.
I was 9 when she passed. I recall her telling us kids stories about when she was a kid and the family traveling west. I was to young to really appreciate it at the time. Thinking about it now, she traveled by horse and wagon as a kid and lived long enough to see the moon landing and commercial jet travel. I really wish someone had of thought to record some of her stories.

A very good episode. Had me in suspense. Actress Joyce Meadows has such beautiful looking eyes, they’re like the eyes of a big wild powerful cat. Little wonder she was voted Miss Hollywood of 1954, and then went on to have a very lucrative television career. She was born in Canada and is no relation to actress Audrey Meadows. Boy that ’41 Oldsmobile sure gets around. So far it has been shown in six episodes and counting. Almost makes it a T.V. star by itself!

The car is an early '57 imperial because it was made PRIOR to the 4 headlights being legal. Chrysler and the other auto manufacturers had to go state to state with a, well, "$trong" "lobbying effort" to get 4 lights made legal. When they did, owners simply went back to their dealers and had the 4 headlights assemblies installed in the openings which were designed for 4 headlights. The '57 to 59 Imperials, especially the convertibles are still so cool at car shows and vintage car cruzes....and Highway patrol the series was always great timeless TV enjoyment. There was always the 15 second morality message at the conclusion. Imagine any TV show trying to get that by network "executives" today....

If you notice, in these episodes, of Highway Patrol, when a police officer calls out for help, on the C.B. radio, for instance, he never mentions out the name, nor the make of the car manufacturer. He will normally refer to it, as a dark gray coupe, or even a blue sport exterior sedan. Lol!
In other words, i guess that during those days, they didn't want to advertise the vehicule brand, or the make of the car, during television shows, like saying Chrysler, Chevy, Ford, or even Studebaker, for commercial syndicated reasons.

Are you talking about what is now the Lassens health food market? That is 2086. That building is set back from the street with parking out in front but not enough.
This is the neighborhood I've lived in for 40 years just south of Griffitth Park a couple of blocks north on Hillhurst. I live right around the corner and shop at an Albertson's which would be directly across the street from where Mathews was staking out the gas station, but did not exist when they shot this episode in the late 50s.
The 5/10/25 Variety store is a commercial building that is still there at 2060 Hillhurst next door to Lassens. The Hollywood wizards did some cuts to make it look like the gas station was a ways down from the Variety store, but they would have been right next door to each other when there was a gas station there. I got my hair cut in that Variety store space for 10 years between about 2010-2020. Interesting that the prior tenant when I moved into the neighborhood in 1984 was not the Variety store, or rather it was a different kind of Variety store - a Beauty Salon that offered prostitution in a back room. It was eventually busted but remained open as a beauty salon for women that provided only beauty salon services....and then as the barber shop where I got my haircuts when I still had some hair.
