If yore letting youtube tell you what to watch via the recommended page rather than knowing what you want and searching for it - you're youtubing wrong
Sadly, the actual UA-cam isnt back. Dislikes removed instead of 5 star rating, oversaturation of ads, and UA-cam's terrible communication with the community
Not to mention that they are intentionally making the platform worse on certain browsers and adblockers aswell (eg youtube intentionally making firefox load the page slow and certain older chromium browsers straight up not loading specific videos
I feel you man i have also noticed the pushback towards slower, calmer videos, I don't think that was a intentional change in the youtube algorithm. It's only natural when the pendulum swing one way, it's going to swing back the other. the other ingredient that i think helped the smaller and more "old style'' videos in the algorithm is the engagement, primarily the views to comments ratio. With the smaller creators the chance for your comment to be noticed and even responded to (not only by the creator but also by the viewers) in much more likely then on a bigger channel , where there are much more comments.
I think a major reason why UA-cam is going back to its roots from back when we were kids is because of how things would naturally shift. I remember back in the day when Pewdiepie, Markiplier, Jackcepticeye, Toby Turner and alike were HUGE on UA-cam, and for one reason or another, they’re just not on UA-cam because they’re living their own lives, or they’re slowing down their own content because eventually they will get into other things that, more or less makes them not want to do UA-cam. When I used to watch Pewdiepie way back in the day, he was different than he was a couple of years ago, saying “I’m not quitting UA-cam, I’m just gonna slow down the content a bit.” And now the guy does monthly vlogs, recently he did a collab with another UA-camr where they did a climbing video to where they learned how to climb walls a lot better, etc., the guy has a wife, and a son, and he’s been doing very well for himself. When GameTheory started to peal back, and said that he was retiring, the internet went into an uproar, because they don’t get to say that its “A game theory” as much as they used to anymore, or not with the same pizzazz as before. CinnamonToastKen hasn’t done gaming videos in YEARS, and he’s been sticking to reaction content for years now, even though we used to vilify that years ago. I don’t think it’s a UA-cam thing, I made my channel in 2014, and I’ve been on UA-cam since its conception, I think it’s a human thing. People change, that is natural, things change for people, that is 100% natural. People in 10 years aren’t going to live the life they once lived before. People aren’t going to go out of their way to look back at the past like that as much, because they understand that sulking leads to... well nothing. One of the few reasons as to why people are going back to ‘Old UA-cam’ is because people want to keep and preserve what they once had, and want to keep the nostalgia alive, which is what will happen to all the other social medias soon enough at some point. UA-cam has just been in the game longer than most, it’s almost on the same like as Facebook, and Twitter, albeit, less unhinged when compared to the two. When the hyper crazy content of like a couple of years ago, from when I was in high school and after were coming out, I remember in high school being like “Holy shit this is too much, I didn’t make a UA-cam channel for that.” And I just never really subbed to that content, because most of it was cancer anyways, and I’ve always stuck to content that… I liked generally speaking, that I preferred to be on generally speaking, and even if it changes, at least I like it, that’s all that matters. More of Old school UA-cam is popping up, and I genuinely think that this is something we could pass to the next gen, because I don’t think the whole rizz, skibidi toilet really isn’t something I think would be great to show to the next generation, when they could be looking at something more real, more better than that. I like more real videos, more documentary style videos, or even videos you’ve mentioned, I prefer those videos because, I saw those videos too, but I never really got into them like that. If you’re happy man, we’re all happy in the end of the day, and that’s what matters.
No one cares. Not everything needs to be a debate, and big channels shouldn't have the right to just blatantly profit off of harmless videos from small creators.
I hate the fast paced overproduced effects ridden colour vomit tiktokified brainrot content with needless riser sound effects and vocal clickbait designed to loop back at the start, that has plagued this platform and really every platform for years now. I’ve always liked that youtube has those longer videos to even out the chaos that is the overstimulating content designed to garner the attention of children mostly but also the grown up iPad kids who would benefit from experiencing boredom from time to time, even when online. I like longer videos, especially the kinds where I can even learn something, and the fact that youtube has just that, has been just the thing that has kept me coming back. When creators started tiktokifying their content and prioritising short form videos I was beginning to lose faith but it’s so soothing to have so many people collectively recognize that this type of content does not really give room for creativity for the creators, it lacks the kind of realness of being human, it feels artificial and doesn’t even really work in achieving what it’s used for. And it leads to creator burnout really quick. Slowing down is 100% necessary from both creator and the viewer perspective.
It’s coming back sure, but I predict every single overstimulating content creators will call this the new strategy and capitalize on it. The old school style of UA-cam content WILL become the new Mr Beast-ified content. Everybody will start doing it because it will be proven to give them the most profit.
Interesting analysis and good video! I would have liked to see some numbers to back up your impressions, but it's an original take nonetheless. Sidenote: is your script to the side of your camera? I had to focus on listening and stop watching you as I had the reflex of looking to the side every time you did 😅
Love this topic. I have this problem with my channel and comparing myself to more “successful” creators that are playing the algorithm. Well I don’t want to play the algorithm I just want to make good helpful content lol. Thanks for this video!
Sooo, does someone like me have a place here? I dunno! I'm not gonna switch to anything quicker than 2 minute videos, songs that i listen to don't get shorter.
Nothing wrong with short form content, the part that matters is that it's something you're genuinely interested in and aren't just doing for views... Broadcast yourself
This isn't a channel plug I swear, but I've noticed my own recent videos that I just randomly record when I'm bored and post because I think they're funny have been getting so many more views than my old videos which I used to spend hours editing. I don't even consider myself a UA-camr, I just put stuff out there when I want to and sometimes it gets only a few views and other times it pulls in thousands, it's pretty cool to see the algorithm favor our weird niche content
the thought of youtube returning to Important Videos era content creation is literally flooding my basement
This video the algorithm sent to me first time viewing your channel
same here

Yes exactly
ironically this video was recommend to me w vid
Dude I was using youtube since 2006 and I can tell you right now that youtube went downhill after 2012. 2006-2011 was the best time to use the site.

No no, it's back (the algorithm recommended me a terrible quality video with 5 views)

it's slowly getting there, I love the videos you are putting out man! - just subbed!
Truly superb video. Only improvement would be to have more dinosaur. Honestly assumed that you had far far more subs than you do.
Thank you! I’ll ask his manager if he’s available for a larger role
