    Interesting you would pick ice water as your irreversible example. Is it not more instructive to consider either steam liquid water (because of the density anomaly with ice) or an equilibrium chemical reaction? It's incredibly important how this stuff is taught in my opinion,.and you are approaching it in just the right way imho.
