Honestly I think the nivoraptor is the most likely evo -- going bigger in the face of insanely intense competition from numerous pack hunters and megafauna doesn't seem like a winner, but going smaller, on the other hand, seems more likely. It's one thing to say "this is what it needs to do to survive" with your bigger examples, but your smaller example, by becoming an epic endurance overmatch for its prey items AND accounting for truly massive caloric-drain issues in the cold, answers "how" they survive to evolve.
@@russmitchellmovement agreed, I k ow a lot of spec Evo is rule of cool, but you take any group of animals and add them to an environment where there's already a large number of well established mega fauna, unless they massively outclass local species in some categories, they're a lot more likely to bully smaller animals out of lower their niches than to suddenly get massive from out of nowhere
Foxes and coyotes are much more natural competition to raptors than big cats and bears. They're a lot closer size wise to them, and that's probably the niche they filled in the Mesozoic anyway
Probably unrelated but he did also neglect one major of the details of them being domesticated (likely because it’s an absolute nightmare to do so). Breeding. Fun fact: the Australian cassowary possesses a sickle claw, which it uses to mark territory and, being a herbivore, dig up roots to eat. To defend itself, it will jump up to 2 metres in the air, lashing out with the sickle to slash the throat of anything that attacks it. Although positioned differently (it is at the back of the foot rather than held up at the front), the shape and size of the cassowary's sickle is similar to that of a dromeosaurid, suggesting a degree of convergent evolution. It is thus potentially likely the dromeosaurs used their sickles in a similar manner. All this to say, the martial arts using dinosaur spec evo is surprisingly likely.

Three thoughts on Lemmeni raptors: 1. They are perfect and beautiful and should be treasured by all. Excellent adaptations to their environment and to human socialisation. They're probably also big enough to stand a chance against feral house cats after European contact. Also I bet that once they moved into Siberia and the Sakhalin, the Japanese would breed a version where the male's red orbital colouration extends in a circle across the skull, because they do that in fish all the time. 2. In terms of adaptations, alongside having an impressive layer of down, I think they'd develop feathers on their wide footsies like owls, the better to soften their steps and keep them warm. Since many birds have evolved fuzzy feet, it's not a far-fetched idea. 3. No idea why keeping them as pets would be illegal in Russia when up until 2019, Russia allowed people to keep fishing cats, caracals, and bears as pets. But it's your worldbuilding so I'll keep quiet. Because I loved this video.

I'm planning on my own spec evo worldbuilding project that revolves around a race of sapient troodontids. While they're not exactly the same as Deinonychus, this is still helpful for figuring out how they'd interact with large mammals.
Loved the speculative evo part. Although I think the medium-sized evolved raptors had a chance to survive. Basically, its the same rule everywhere. All the super tough mega-fauna was driven to extinction, and mostly small animals, especially those which had benefits for humans survived.
Honestly I don't think Utahraptors would do much better than the Deinonychus in the Ice Age initially. It's easy to see "Oooh big raptor" and think it would dominate the ecosystem but Utahraptors almost assuredly didn't live in groups beyond possibly mated pairs which is why they became so large and robust to begin with. So all the social predators even wolves would give them a very hard time and their higher caloric needs would put more pressure on them which while yes are stronger to take down things like Elk, Moose and Bison, they would easily outrun them. Utahraptor was an Apex Predator of its environment and likely would be too inflexible to survive if brought to the Ice Age.
This type of video was actually done by someone else- Utahraptor would actually survive and dominate pretty well. It was a feathered and large species (better for cold environments) and about as large as the cave bear, and its main prey were ceratopsians, ankylosaurids, and hadrosaurs, so mammoths would have a genuine threat now if found alone. While they wouldn't be perfectly suited for the environment, they would do a lot better than deinonychus. Of course, this is assuming that their behavior adapts as well- a big part of adaptation is behavior, and some things have trouble with that
Speed estimates place Utahraptor at 25-35 mph. Moose and bison run at exactly the highest estimate’s speed. A female bison or moose seems perfectly acheivable as a food source, particularly if the utahraptor managed to sneak up on and ambush the bison. Alot of dromaeosaurs are nocturnal after all.
@@fishyfishyfishy500akabs8 You seem to forget a key thing with that speed estimate: stamina. While Utahraptor would have an efficient respiratory system, it is doubtful it could move such a robust body at such speeds beyond an initial sprint. Lions can move at almost cheetah speeds (50 mph) during their initial burst but they are still outran by most of the prey on the plains should the ambush fail.
One thing not mentioned about the Nivoraptors is that with their smaller builds, they would likely be able to at least glide with their wings and tails. With their hands and claws they should be able to climb trees that they can leap from, this would also help them keep an eye out for predators.
I got three ideas for this series: 1. What if Wolves were in the Triassic Period? I’m quite curious on what would happen honestly if they were able to evolve to the point that somehow they survive the extension to the dinosaurs and are able to make their own period 2. This is adding a fictional animal in the real life period and that is what if the hippogriff was in the Ice Age? I know you already did ice age but i couldn’t figure out what to add it in. I just want something to do with the hippogriff honestly 3. Considering that you did the T-Rex added in a fictional area how about we do what if the Spinosaurus was in Middle Earth? Would be very interesting to see how this would play out
The mental image of taming RAPTORS instead of wolves to help us hunt the megafauna of the period is... wow ❤ I wished you went that direction. But the nivoraptor/cat is cool too 🤣
If the nivoraptor actually existed, when Jurassic park would release, universal and pet companies would market the animal as the “living fluffy velociraptor” for Jurassic Park merch meaning they would be the most wanted pet for households because of the movie.
Did you see the Utahraptor vs. Smilodon animation on Tier Zoo? This video kind of reminds me of it. I appreciate you including source material from your research. Makes this one feel more thought out than your previous ones. Where would be the best (cheapest) place to get a Lemming Hawk?
Excellently edited and well thought video (with equally great artwork) on this speculative scenario. Keep hitting high Mad Mez! Here's an idea for video that can fit in with your more fictional content (Deathclaws, T. Rex on Halo, etc.) which technically is the case for all of it, but still: Wargs from Peter Jackson's LOTR/ The Hobbit. They're not too outlandish, but still the two "breeds" in either trilogy seem dynamically interesting enough to consider putting them in any prehistoric era, where they neither stomp or get stomped in terms of survivability. Just hope copyright doesn't end up being your One Ring if you do take this idea to heart XD
I guess one answer for the raptors to survive is with them adopting a migratory style. They move up in the warmer period and they retreat further south during the glacial periods.
18:12 There have actually been studies of the cave hyenas brain case, and it suggests that their social structure was less like spotted hyenas and more like the striped or brown hyena. Not only this, but it is suggested that they are a different species to the spotted hyenas.
Okay, I wanna live in this timeline. I'd go to Alaska just to try and find if American Lion sized arctic murder birds really existed, and I'd move to a place where owning Lemming hawks are legal! Amazing video yet again! Just the right length too, 30 minutes is long enough to be invested in and is very detailed while being too long.
Buffalo and moose are really aggressive, they've been known to gore grizzlies. As many a tourist has found out the hard way. Their thick fur, robust build, and attitude make them quite dangerous opponents. Mammoths, like elephants, might be a bit too clever for dromaeosaurs. Like elephants, they probably had really good memories and held grudges, as many a lion well knows.
I wonder how a troodontid/stenonychosaur would preform in the ice age. Not only cause of their impressive intelligence but also their experience with colder climates
One idea that could be good in this type of video, what if Brazilian dinosaurs like oxalaia or pycnonemosaur weren't extinct and lived at the exact period that this video shows up?
This series typically focuses on spicier animals but would you consider doing one on cows and if they could survive the Mesozoic? You'd need to select a wilder form of cow given milk cows can't survive without humans but they were quite formidable before we tamed them, and bulls are still scary even today.
Hello there. I have a video idea which is if the main south America megatherapodes could survive in the Cenozoic. Like, how oxalaia would deal with purusaurus, it's something that vividen have done with north America and Africa, but you also have "experimental" videos as well
I’d love to see a video speculating life if we domesticated dromeosaurs similarly to the way we domesticated wolves. Maybe normal raptors would remain in the world, but there would be a tame subspecies like dogs.
Madly, you know what you did by making the lemming hawk domesticated, you just opened the door for a whole video dedicated to different breeds😱 *(btw I was thinking about early human domesticating one of the speculative raptors once I saw the image of the bering straight)*

While Utahraptor would have an efficient respiratory system, it is doubtful it could move such a robust body at such speeds beyond an initial sprint. Lions can move at almost cheetah speeds (50 mph) during their initial burst but they are still outran by most of the prey on the plains should the ambush fail.
20:38 this art is stunning!
i cannot describe how friend shaped the snow raptors are. i desperately need to hold one
One thing not mentioned about the Nivoraptors is that with their smaller builds, they would likely be able to at least glide with their wings and tails. With their hands and claws they should be able to climb trees that they can leap from, this would also help them keep an eye out for predators.
Oh, boy. These Cryonychus are literally about the same size as Jurassic Park/World raptors. :D
Also, I want a pet Nivoraptor, since they are cute (and they're legal as pets in California, which is where I live in)! 😊
What a great birthday present I get to wake up to on Friday!
Ice age dawn of the dinosaurs except the title is taken literally
I got three ideas for this series:
1. What if Wolves were in the Triassic Period? I’m quite curious on what would happen honestly if they were able to evolve to the point that somehow they survive the extension to the dinosaurs and are able to make their own period
2. This is adding a fictional animal in the real life period and that is what if the hippogriff was in the Ice Age? I know you already did ice age but i couldn’t figure out what to add it in. I just want something to do with the hippogriff honestly
But the nivoraptor/cat is cool too 🤣
If the nivoraptor actually existed,
when Jurassic park would release, universal and pet companies would market the animal as the “living fluffy velociraptor” for Jurassic Park merch meaning they would be the most wanted pet for households because of the movie.
Would love to see a speculative world of evolutions of dinosaurs of this series like the Nivoraptor, and how they'd interact with modern day humans.
i love the last part when the raptors just turned into cats
Idea for Video: Could the GOT/HOTD Dragons survive in Pandora or maybe even Hollow Earth/Skull Island
Finally we are given what we all desire-pet dromeosaurs.
Rex on Halo, etc.) which technically is the case for all of it, but still:
Wargs from Peter Jackson's LOTR/ The Hobbit. They're not too outlandish, but still the two "breeds" in either trilogy seem dynamically interesting enough to consider putting them in any prehistoric era, where they neither stomp or get stomped in terms of survivability.
Just hope copyright doesn't end up being your One Ring if you do take this idea to heart XD
hmmm wargs are a good one
:D 👍
I guess one answer for the raptors to survive is with them adopting a migratory style. They move up in the warmer period and they retreat further south during the glacial periods.
the idea of having a Little raptor running around your house like a cat is genius 🤣

There have actually been studies of the cave hyenas brain case, and it suggests that their social structure was less like spotted hyenas and more like the striped or brown hyena.
It's a crime that this video doesn't have over a hundred thousand viewers already. Hopefully next year.
Great video. As for an idea, how about "Could Quetzalcoatlus survive the Cenozoic?"
Maybe. Until the beardogs from Eurasia appear. And the flying reptile's egg would be in jeopardy.
Idea for a video: Could The Future Predator survive in southern Asia around 1.5mya (basically when Erectus shows up)?
I would also love to see Utahraptor or Microraptor my 2 favorite Dromaeosaurs to see if they could survive in the Pleistocene
Valsimott made such beautiful arts. Kudos to them!
Idea : could sauropod survive in Cenozoic era ?
Edit : I like to see giant vs giant...
I wonder how a troodontid/stenonychosaur would preform in the ice age.
Not only cause of their impressive intelligence but also their experience with colder climates
I was recommended your videos a few days ago, and I am not disappointed :D
I especially like the speculative evolution 👍
Amazing work dude. The quality of your videos is superb.
One idea that could be good in this type of video, what if Brazilian dinosaurs like oxalaia or pycnonemosaur weren't extinct and lived at the exact period that this video shows up?
Human sees something small, cute, and useful? Gotta Catch ’Em All!
Mostly because I didn’t know it was so destructive to the modern environment, “How would Bass fish do in the ancient oceans and Rivers?”
This series typically focuses on spicier animals but would you consider doing one on cows and if they could survive the Mesozoic? You'd need to select a wilder form of cow given milk cows can't survive without humans but they were quite formidable before we tamed them, and bulls are still scary even today.
4:27 Wasn't expecting the AFTV clip🤣
@@giovannij1368 bro it was my first time and that shit had me rolling
Just a random idea I had. "Could anomalocaris survive the neogene"
Is it the first period of the Cenozoic?
@@UnwantedGhost1-anz25 no, it’s the Paleogene, the Neogene was the one right after it
Hello there.
Nivoraptors seem adorable!
Great stuff
I can't imagine how much work it takes to make these videos. What a sensational idea, the video is very good!
Madly, you know what you did by making the lemming hawk domesticated, you just opened the door for a whole video dedicated to different breeds😱 *(btw I was thinking about early human domesticating one of the speculative raptors once I saw the image of the bering straight)*
Valsimot rlly put it all in for this one yall. Much love val!! Ur a real one
All of you guys earn praise and vacation. 👏🏼
The group hunting of raptors and tyrannosaurs have often been exaggerated. Most likely they would be like coyotes. Mostly solitary hunters but grouping up to use strength of numbers to hunt larger targets.
Here is a list of future video ideas:

Technically, the third request is fulfilled. As we're getting canids in the Triassic period relatively soon.
Louisiana mentioned, happy
Idea for an episode: could allosaurus survive in the Cenozoic like the Paleocene or the Miocene
jesus christ that jumpscare during the megafauna section. that was the last thing i expected
The cute and adorable Nivoraptors are so lucky that they get to stay alive. ❤w❤
"Stegosaurus like tail" I would say more like Ankylosaurus.
Great video though very interesting
i would love to see if other dinosaurus could survive the ice age. For example a ceratopsian.
And the first spec evo looks like a jp raptor with feathers.
Cold raptors, and i wonder what will Asian sheepshead wrasse will look like on kanto region.
I like how the last one became basically cats.
Idea: could ichtyosaurs (e.g. Shastasaurus, Opthalmosaurus or Ichtyosaurus) survive the Holocene
Idea for a video: Could the cast of Prehistoric Planet survive Teyvat?
Most specifically:
Mondstadt: Coasts and Swamps
Liyue: Deserts and Oceans
Inazuma: Freshwater and North America
Sumeru: Ice Worlds
Fontaine: Forests
Natlan: Islands
Sletzyana: Badlands (perhaps better to ignore as we have no idea how the region is like since it hasn’t come out yet. Natlan could still be considered in the video since it’s going to be released next month. Which is one week away basically.)
