Noah Smith (born February 26, 2000), known professionally as Yeat (/ˈjiːt/ YEET), is an American rapper, singer, songwriter and music producer. He gained recognition in mid-2021 after the release of his mixtape 4L and debut studio album "Up 2 Më", with tracks from the latter, including "Gët Busy", "Turban", and "Monëy So Big", gaining popularity on TikTok. In 2022, he released his second studio album, "2 Alivë", and the EP "Lyfë".
Noah Smith was born on February 26, 2000, in Irvine, California. In an interview, he stated his mother is Romanian while his father is half Mexican, through Smith's paternal grandmother (in that same interview, Smith said that his paternal grandfather was white, but that he didn't know his specific ethnicity). His father was a member of a band and owned many instruments. Yeat moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon in his teen years and attended Lakeridge High School. After graduating, Yeat moved to New York to pursue his music career before eventually moving to Los Angeles, where he currently lives.
Yeat began making music that had Auto-Tune-infused vocals. In 2021, he adopted a more aggressive and synth-based sound, joining a growing group of rappers that used "rage beats", a sound that became a SoundCloud staple influenced and pioneered by the lively vocal deliveries and EDM-influenced beat selections of artists such as Playboi Carti; Carti's December 2020 Whole Lotta Red album has particularly been referenced. His vocal style has drawn comparisons to notable rappers like Playboi Carti, Future, and Young Thug. Yeat has stated the latter two are some of his biggest inspirations.
Yeat has also been noted to employ a unique lingo in his music, coming up with ad-libs and phrases such as "twizzy" and "luh geeky", and referencing Tonka in his lyrics often. His father was one of the inspirations for him creating these unique words, as he himself would make up his own words when Yeat was a child.
Certain aspects of Yeat's music have led him to be associated with various Internet memes and trends, especially the frequent use of bell sounds in his song's beats.

You know you've struck gold when you find an artist that sounds awful the first time you listen to them, a week later you find yourself looking up their spotify, and a month later you're bumping every song they have. It feels like yeat is still ahead of his time, just like people didn’t understand future and young thug at first. It would be hard to say that he would ever be as big as them, but it feels like he’s pushing the sub-genre that those guys created. Music will continue to evolve and take parts of someone before them and make it into their own. To me, yeat is a perfect example of this

If u guys listen to yeats older stuff and listen to one of his projects like a few months after that, u gotta admit he’s been evolving at an insane pace that we rarely see other artists can do. Like his old stuff showed that he had his own sound but it was super unpolished and extremely rough, but you could see where he was trying to go with it. Fast forward a year and it’s like he perfected it and already experimenting with new sounds. Yeat is the most interesting artist to emerge these past few years, people just don’t wanna admit it.

Other artists sound SO flat and monotone after listening to Yeat. Even that long awaited Nav album was absolute ass for me because there's so little going on in comparison.
I always have a hard time describing his music but I think the real secret to it all is simply him. He knows EXACTLY what sounds good and what sounds bad on a track, and is just present on the beat in so many ways. Also his music transfers over to so many genres with it still sounding hard, so people who think he's one dimensional have some surprises coming their way.
One of the most interesting artists I've listened to. He needs to chill on all that devil talk though.

he definitely does tell stories in songs from up 2 me like kant change, lying 4 fun, told ya, etc. dnt lie off 2 alive also has some pretty good story telling and clever lyrics definitely setting the scene when you REALLY listen. however you describe who he is as an artist you are spot on
I found Yeat in a very hectic time of my life. I ran away to Mexico for a month to reset, I listened to Yeat watching the sunset alone the entire time. I fell in love with life again in the process. Thanks Yeat 🤞🏼

He's doing this vocal style better than others at the moment, and I don't think this style is going anywhere. He kinda perfected the Travis Scott style. He pretty much nails it on Out the Way... obviously it's basic lyrically but the vocals are incredible. Even Drake had a totally mixed reaction when he first came out, yet he became a massive success. I don't think this is the final evolution of this style of music by any means, if I had to guess, some time in the next few years an artist will emerge that will take over this style in a more lyrical and complex way but in the meantime Yeat seems to be carrying this wave better than anyone at the moment, and this is a pretty typical reaction to a new wave of music.... Lots of people think it's trash, a minority worship it, and then it takes over... Literally the same cycle that's been going on since Rock n Roll and before

Completely agree with all of this. Just my own two cents: As a music producer and rapper myself who's been closely immersed in the scene I found Yeat's sound really polarizing, to begin with, but understood that his sound is sort of taking the 'voice as an instrument concept' that was pioneered (only naming the most popular ones) by T-Pain, Ye, Travis Scott, and more recently and paralleled to Yeat's style, Playboi Carti, especially in Whole Lotta Red. Personally, I see two emerging categories out of the current Hip Hop sphere. There's this kind of succession to the trap sound of recent years that takes its most iconic tropes (e.g. distorted 808 bass, autotuned vocals, cloud-rap beats, chopped/screwed mixes, etc) and then pushes that to its limits. Then there is this sort of broad section which almost stands to oppose all of this but is overall equally as popular. Subverting the bullish sound of 2010s mainstream hip hop with more hollowed-out sounds that are reviving recently overlooked sounds like boom bap, pop, R&B or outsourcing to UK electronic music (Dancehall, 2 Step, Jungle, Grime, UK Drill, etc). Of course, there are always outliers who fit neither here nor there which is why music is as cool as it is but this is overall the two major branches that I would say things are looking like they're going; at least according to my Spotify algorithm. (PS: I Don't listen to Yeat)

I think the best type of music is the type where you listen through a song and it really challenges you to think whether its really good or trash. Once you get over that obstacle the music changes for you and you become attached to it. over the past year Yeat's music has done this to me and I'm a big fan of what he makes. Shame his fanbase is weird tho

The past couple years I've been really exploring hip hop, listening to all the best, classic albums/mixtapes and it really put into perspective how dull and unoriginal a lot of mainstream rappers are today. I didn't find pretty much any of the artists that blew up in 2020 onwards interesting at all. They all sounded like watered down versions of Future, Thugger, Travis, Uzi, Carti or Juice WRLD to me. I was getting more and more difficult to impress, so it's safe to say that when I first heard Yeat it was such a breath of fresh air. Even though his production was similar to Carti's, his vocals sounded like a mix of Future and Thugger and his lyrics were the usual, generic trap topics I still couldn't stop listening to it. I saw a review on Up 2 Me saying that his music has some sort of mind control ability attached to it and I think that pretty much sums it up. With his manic, layered production that sounds like it's alive and an array of interesting flows, I really think Yeat is the most cutting edge and innovative trap artist out right now alongside Baby Keem. Imo, these guys are the true stars pushing the genre forward amidst a lot of passable artists who aren't necessarily bad, but are just too safe to make me care about them.

He's one of the only artists where I can listen to every single track without wanting to skip. I generally consider myself someone who is open to all types of music and I listen to artists like yeat, Kendrick, Isaiah Rashad, Drake, Weeknd, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q etc in one sitting. As of now, its difficulty listening to other artists bc I'm expecting the same energy and feeling that I get from Yeat on every track.

I feel like Yeat has an almost edm like quality to him that attracts people to him. It's vague to say "edm" but I can't think of another popular genre that can be played as ambient music where the focus isn't usually on individual songs, but more the feeling an album carries. I wouldn't compare his style even though heavily influenced by cartis to whole lotta red. WLR has very distinctive songs and style which moved away from earlier albums like die lit and cartis earlier work which blends into each other in a very similar way. IDK what Yeats long term looks like considering he just cranks out tons of music, but I can see what makes him appealing now being his decline when it becomes "You've heard one Yeat song and you've heard them all"

At first I didn’t like yeat. I think it’s because he was still new to being somewhat mainstream but I think what may have happened is he started being able to develop his style and sound more due to the feedback he started to receive. Now I atleast give his new albums a listen and pick out which songs I like to continue listening to. Yeat is definitely a good artist and stands out.

Actually this is highly debatable. For one Autumn could be up there with Yeat by now but he keeps making songs that is similar to everyone else’s so he’s struggling when it comes to views. If he continue to make songs like One Way he’ll definitely rise to the top. And for the other rappers not everyone knows them like that and their music is kind of uninteresting.

I think eventually yeat will sit down and really write something. I’m not saying he’s gonna bar us to death or anything. But with Afterlyfe you can see the shift. There’s more artistically driven cuts on that project and you can see he’s developing a vision.
