What can be said of DJ Krush and his irreplaceable contribution to music? Krush is a pioneer and one of the founding proponents of Trip Hop music from the 90's and one of it's most masterful exponents. This album is an epic collision of the two worlds and forces of Hip Hop and Jazz, way, way before it's time. Nowadays, Jazz Hop is prominent in the underground scene and quite a newer genre and offshoot of Hip Hop music & Jazz but this album was truly groundbreaking, and one of the first of it's kind back. The album is a masterpiece and the brain child of DJ Krush that was conceived 20+ years prior to it's time. It's definitely a classic and one to have in your collection! Groove & chill to it!
In 2015, Fact ranked the album at 25 on its list of "The 50 Best Trip-Hop Albums of All Time."

Quite possibly one of the finest albums ever recorded. And yet so unknown.
Had this in my life since 97. Nothing else sounds like it
Discovered this album in 2015 and I've listened to it weekly since.
@Charlie Cappa truer words were never spoken, I feel exactly the same.
right!! i feel like i'm in possession of something rare and valuable by knowing this album, because it should be one of the defining albums of its generation.
Absolutely agree. ✨
Several years ago, I worked at an airport, usually on night shifts. One night, a beautiful girl came to the airport and my bar. After a while, we struck up a discussion - a very lively and in its own way intimate conversation. We mainly talked about music. She mentioned album names that meant little to me, and I told her that in my circle, I was considered a music guru and had influenced many people's musical tastes. She just smiled and said, "When you get home, please listen to 'Ki Oku'." And that's what I did. I returned home around 5 AM and found the album on Soulseek, if I remember correctly. I was in total shock - the album simply captivated me, and for the next month, I listened to nothing but that, endlessly. Best wishes to you, beautiful stranger, wherever you are.
This was the album that changed my life and literally everything I listened to! I was a teenager from small town South Carolina, must have been 1999, and I was travelling abroad with my dad. I used to carry around one of those massive 200 album CD books and a walkman and at the time, with the exception of a handful of cd's friends made for me or turned me on to, nearly all of my albums were stuff you discovered from MTV. I was always into music; but, I never knew where to look for more unknown and underground stuff until this one trip to Iceland where my dad let me roam around in a record store we walked past in Reykjavik. I must have bought 10 different "electronic" albums just because they looked cool or intriguing and this was one of them! That same record shop experience introduced me to MUZIK and MINISTRY OF SOUND magazines and from that day it was on for me! Im 38 now and must have been 14 or 15 then and I cherish that memory. What a fantastic album! Long live the icon, DJ KRUSH.
Cool story! Do you know if the shop still exists?
there are around 4-5 record stores in reykjavik: Lucky Records, 12 Tonar , Smekkleysa(this is something that belongs to bjork, a lot of underground music there), Reykjavik record shop and my favorite Geisladiskabúð Valda@@Urdatorn

driving down the highway to this album at night, with my windows open and the wind blowing in my hair.. one of the best feelings ever.
Might try that, glad i came across this tonight
I haven't tried it but I can imagine!
Why does everyone say the same thing?
wish i was there besides you, blowing wind in your hair :)
Can i kiss your lips
This album got me through medical school, countless hours spent studying and playing this on repeat. It kept me sane! Thank you DJ Krush and RIP Toshinori
Shit man, same! All my medical school I was listening to this album. Especially before the exams to calm myself down

This was a good era for music. DJ's and rapper melding with Jazz greats. A time when unity was on everyone's mind... and in a good way. I miss those days, especially now.
Indeed man
Unity is on the minds of some people, even now. In pockets, we are thriving, creating a future that inspires us. What better time than now to find yourself?
Oh boy, yes… I miss it too much 😢
Unity is coming back on big doors brother.... and pretty soonish if I might say so 🫒🎶🔥❤
it was the peak of civilization
RIP Toshinori Kondo. Your skill will forever be here through the waves of your music. Reach far.
Just now remembered this album. Climbing up on the rooftops after the city went to sleep, and waiting for the new day. Listening to the horns, bass and drums made me feel like the day could bring anything
Gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi swaha!
I was 13 years old riding the bus to school on a cold November morning; Mu-Getsu starts playing through my headphones. I listened in awe. I looked at my iPod confused; I had no idea how the song got there, but boy was I glad. After that I listened to this album every morning.
Time passed and I forgot about this album. 18 years later, this incredible album comes across my mind randomly. I listen to Mu-getsu; I am 13 again, on that school bus.
It’s incredible what music can do. Timeless. Thank you for this masterpiece.
Man, I'm getting sick of finding really cool music by really talented artists only to find they are dead.
That is a very young thing to say.
This is ... sadly.. what mysteriously&ironicly happens to most very good artists etc. ... regarding nujabes, jdilla etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc
it's a crime that this classic is not on spotify
I second that
There are far too many classics not on Spotify.
spotify is shit
What about Apple Music, do they have it or is it just not on streaming period?
Spotify sucks
I can’t believe how good this album is
Bruh, I'm sitting here sayin the same thing like wow....
You actlly wouldn't believe Krush is real unless you see him performing live
Flavor World this album was my go to during college studying a few years ago. The best!
I can't believe it's 24 yrs old.
Valentin Degenne so I take it you have??? What was that like dude??
I used to put this album on repeat and switch on my screen saver on my old PC and just trip out..... such a great album
Exactly.
Mu-Chu , the nex realm when blunted
random bit of information about this album: the first track, which is much more upbeat and has a different vibe from the rest, was asked to be made and added by Sony so it could be marketed as a single toward the dance audience in Japan. It was not part of the original recording
Interesting! Thanks for sharing
@@whofuckingcares420 based on your name im not sure youre serious but if you are, no problem!
also, a friend of mine worked in the studio where they did the mastering for this amazing album way back then - in case anyone was wondering where the info came from
@@user-pf2qm5je3r I was being serious lol but I understand. Your friend is lucky to have been so close to something so great!
i think it kinda fits in, it does have this dark vibe to do it that's indescribably 90s and leads into a plot twist at the end
Cheers and thanks. My wife thinks I'm weird for loving those bits of info, but I seriously do. My friend calls me "Sleevenotes" lol. I love this record as a dear friend who passed away ten years ago introduced me to it. There are certain records that always remind me of him and this is one of them. We were lucky enough to see Krush play a great set at a festival on Bondi Beach around '97. He was incredible. Towards the end he noticed a group of breakers at the front so he started throwing in old skool hip-hop. I'm pretty sure he ended with "White Lines." Awesome day.
Fell asleep on the couch with my wife last night while this album played ❤️
Hard to find a recent hiphop/jazz LP with such a deep, ferocious and wholly mystical musical tenacity.
UltraBrilliant beyond belief.
10/10
Замечательно сказано !
Альбом чувственный и при этом очень сосредотачивающий 🙆
Very true! Still looking for something that is close to this one.

The best is to read all you lovely people sharing your feelings and emotional attachment to this wonderful piece of music.
There are just a handful of albums following me for such a long time without ever losing their intensity.
Thank you Krush and rest in peace Maestro Kondō.

I've been listening to this for 20 years now. Still as good. Feels like everything else in my life is evolving, but enjoying this album just peaked really early and stayed top.
i bagged this on vinyl mint condition for £60 the other day. man i have never been so happy possibly favorite chill album all time

Wow I just turned 30 few weeks ago and I am listening to this for the first time!!!! This is the gold one discovers on the never ending search for new/old music. Feeling blessed today. Peace to my brothers and sisters
Happy birthday! The 30th birthday always reminds me of " Darkwood Dub Život počinje u 30toj " - you will like it for sure! The name of the album is in Serbian, and it means "life starts at 30". Just copy the sentence under the quotation marks, there is an upload on youtube :D
I bought this when it was released in the mid 90s. Still sounds fresh
Cool story snowflake now piss off

I cannot believe I haven't heard this before. Truly a masterpiece.
I listen to this when I'm in the final stages of an anxiety attack, it never fails to bring me back to a good, peaceful place.

please put this on Spotify!!!! sigh
A friend burned this on a CD for me. I was stunned when I first heard it. I miss the creativity of the 90’s. An absolute masterpiece.
Found this by reaching age 40 and unlocking UA-cam 2, which is mostly the same website but with more recommendations of Japanese jazz albums
Discovered this gem way back in 1999. It sounds just as fresh today as it did back then.
Rest in peace Toshinori Kondo, and thank you so much
Настоящее путешествие в 1996 год💜Jazz-Hop🎺
Bought this on release day at a local shop. I did a stint in college radio from 1995-1999. Something off of this album was played at least 4-5 times a month.
Few albums can immediately sweep me back to that era. This one never loses steam.
Thanks for the post!
A masterpiece through and through.
Toshinori Kondo (15 Dec 1948 - 17 Oct 2020) - RIP 🙏
Amazing album, so timeless. Great for listening on long late night drives.
I gotta admit, despite being a huge fan of Krush, and Bill Laswell, I'm disappointed I didn't know this record existed... 'til last year. Phenomenal album. 💜
Can I ask you for some music recommendations?
@@notcosteffective9920 Sure thing! Though, judging by your Subs, you're already on a good path 😉 Any 'area' of music in particular, or are there things you definitely DON'T want covered? 🤔🙂
Saudações do Brasil!
Czysta, wyrafinowana perfekcja. Słychać i czuć atmosferę muzyki Milesa Davisa z okresu lat 80-tych.
Так, как гипнотизируют эти ребята, меня не гипнотизировал даже PINK FLOYD !
I fall in love with this album all over again every time I listen to it. ❤
Qué bella armonía, podría escuchar por siempre esta sinfonía.❤️
Underrated gem of an album, this is the balance of positive energy, mystery, and sometimes eerie apprehension that was missing from my life.
Imagine you listen this when you smoke for the first time weed. That's how i felt after smoking one spliff after a long time..and damn this album is crazy
One of the best albums ever made in the general field of music!!!! Telling this after 20 years digging deep into every kind of music genre....Stunning!!!!!!!!!
I took a puff, turned off the lights and started swaying, humming along. Then the hums turned to words and words transformed into vocal melodies and poetry...BAM i was one with them💜 thank you for the amazing soul filling journey
Love that!
Got dam! The 90's. You overlook it if you were an 80's kid but the music is very nostalgic. Underground Hip Hop, Trip Hop, actual cassettes and CD's. This album was so good.
I knew DJ Krush from the 90's, but I never ran across this till. TodY (11 03 2022). Absolutely fantastic, child of In A Silent Way. Thanks for posting g. I just turned 68 on q0/31 st Oct. Still a student of music.
I've been listening to this album for the majority of my 20s. Since I'll be turning 30 this year I think it's only right to wish my 20s farewell by also saying rest in peace to Toshinori Kondo. Thank you for gifting us with your talents, if no one else, I'll never forget you Kondo san.
Thanku everyone for listening to this ... makes me happy im not the only one who loves this ❤ r.i.p toshi
zero listening fatigue.
Was lucky enough to have this album signed by KRUSH at one of his shows in Denver 😊 didn’t realize Mr. Kondo died till reading the comments, rest in power!
It's dreamy, it's ambient, it's aqua, it's sweet, it's romantic, it's seductive, and it's euphoric.
It's COMPLETE. ✨
something about this album is so quintessentially 90's
Where has this album been my whole life. Damn.

Hearing Music I should have heard a long time ago but yet it's still right on time. #Toshinori👑 #DJKrush👑 #InfiniteThankYou🏆
How can this be so unsuperflux ? Krush is another reason why I should dig more about Japanese culture and personality, this man express his liberty through his music. He is a free man and his music is his path.
Following you since I am a kid and now that I am 31yo I keep listening to your work when I need to recalibrate myself. Really fucking good music that needs to keep being spread worldwide, I am sure God created this shit so he can head bobbing while watching human-kind going to derive.
@ valentine. You should look up tha blue herb. Another Japanese hip hop group. They’ve got some awesome stuff. Dj. Krush did a remix of some of their music. That’s how I was introduced to them
Bought this when it came out, lovely stuff. So full of vibe and mystery. Rest in peace, Toshinori Kondo.
RIP Toshinori - my childhood's sound

DJ Krush is ALWAYS killing it with his eclectic choice of digging for the best tracks out there 😉
A smooth classic mix of ambient, jazz, and hip-hop, all rolled together into one joint. These guys are true underground legends.

RIP Wonderfull Sir Toshinori Kondo..... You reinvent the trumpet contemporary jazz, ref.. Miles of course.... Always trying to go more far in the modern experience.... This unbelievable album with Sir DJ krush, like your little brother, is one of the best evidence..... Listen this piece again and again and again.... Waouaw.... Great men..... Thank you.... God bless you...
Probably the best album in the history of music.
definitely up there as one of my favorites ever since i heard this album in my friends car, i just had to know who it was. i was hooked immidiately i knew there was something really special to this album. ill never forget it we were on our way to a halloween party and we were cruising at night through the city after smoking a jay right before leaving the house . minus the driver. he told me it was dj krush and i was like ok good enough and back then i downloaded albums from mediafire and randomly chose this one to download .. i got so lucky . at first i was like oh this is like some special edition thing with some trummpet guy,. not really what im into, but boy was i wrong ... i kept giving it a chance and found myself playing it for friends and random guests who would come over, alot of times this would be the most neutral but hardass stuff to put on. it never failed to set the moood right. no one ever asked me who it was or anything to this day this is my secret gem music. i feel bad for people who havent treated themselves and at least once in their life vibed out to these frequencies. theyre something else altogether.. deep feelings. introspective but makes u feel closer to whoevers near. damn now im having flashbacks of the time i listened to this on acid... im telling you.. and im just one of many people who probably have similair stories and experiences... im glad this album is still getting the recognition it deserves
Thre's better Crack. We just got amazing taste in music. Musical Snob....
@@pabloramirez7652 It's a matter of taste after all. But for me, the fusion of jazz and raw hip-hop and the frequency they chose to mix and master the album + the musical lines which are screaming "90s nostalgia" - everything is so damn perfect. If you know the landscapes with skyscrappers in animes like Cowboy Bebop or any retro-futuristic medias, you know what i'm talking about, it's sending me there. I don't know man, I just find it a very visual music. It wakes feelings in me that I never knew I had.
Sure
And you probably have the best name on youtube Crack my bro...

I listened to this album late 90s every day on minidisc on my way to school. Now it seems to be a bit worn but the dystopic urban atmosphere that made me feel like walking through an anime movie is still there. Third track on repeat was best...good times!
Why is this so good ? Can't believe I only now found this.
This will always be my favorite album of all time, always fills me with nostalgia and peaceful wonder when i listen to it.
I'M JUST NOW FOUNDING OUT ABOUT THIS CREATIVE CASSEROLE. Damn i miss the 90's!
