    Holy shit, she actually did Gojira.
    If you're gonna do more I'd recommend Global Warming live, it's a great showcase of his voice, and he's gotten even better.

      i guess beth won't do any more gojira, there's almost nothing to say about joe's vocal skillz - as you can see here.! he's just not that good (at least in live environments) that it makes sense to do a VOCAL reaction video. you all forget that it's about reacting to vocal skillz, not about reacting to your favorite bands.

      Seriously. Fan comments get caught up trying to shock the creator with increasingly obnoxious songs and bands once they catch a whiff of the creator listening to something heavy. It's dumb. Gojira is a fantastic band, but there are a certainly many other songs that ought to be covered if we're attempting to explore vocal nuance within Gojira, and less-so in a live performance.
      Live, Gojira's strength is the instrumental and vocal *power*, it's not really an environment to explore nuance because the live delivery isn't as precise or noticeable.

      Dude...I so agree! I am a huge Gojira fan and this was not a good choice to really show off how great they are. Kinda makes me want to punch whoever recommended this particular song, then buy them a beer because they actually got Gojira on the channel. Kind of reminds me of a video here a few weeks ago for faith no more...Mike Patton is a freaking genius, but some idiot convinced Beth to react to the absolute worst song they ever recorded.

      Try Be'lakor - Abeyance, Edit: No. You know what, listen to the whole album, Of Breath And Bone because it's such a masterpiece, every single track.

    • @AlfredSoul
      @AlfredSoul 5 років тому +1

      @@kiwicami287 I just checked them out and yeah, they're pretty nice. Although heavy metal and hard rock are propably the music I listen to the most, I don't quite get the _really_ deep gutteral growl, it always sounds tryhard to me and distracts me from the oftentimes otherwise great music. There are very few bands that manage to pull it off in a tasteful way for me. Be'lakor doesn't rely on it too heavily (lol) but all in all, the music for me isn't strong enough to overpower my disliking of the now and then too "growly" vocals.
      I'll go ahead and listen to some more of their catalogue but at this point in time, I don't think I'll get hooked. I will have to see, I guess.

      I originally recommended the studio performance of Global Warming but she asked if I minded she did Silvera instead. I explained why I thought that wasn't the greatest choice and she asked about this song. I told her i thought it was better than silvera and here we are... Dunno why she didn't want to do my original suggestion maybe the length of the song or the fact that it was in studio and not in front of a crowd... I couldn't tell you her reasoning but man I'm just happy she took my suggestion at all and reacted to gojira period, and super happy that I got a shoutout too!

    Joe Duplantier is insane. As a metal vocalist I have no idea how he sings those growls with so much melody and great prononciation. And his clean vocals are also beautiful. I wouldn't classify Gojira even near to "classic death metal". It's so technical and nowadays even more progressive. Such a great band.

    4:50 I think I understand what you are getting at, here. Even as a self-proclaimed metalhead, I too have this issue. A lot of these heavier metal bands tend to lose sight of the foundations of good music in favor of trying to be as brutal as possible. Some folks like that, but it becomes much more niche at that point because it transforms into raw noise more than anything else. Gojira is definitely heavy, but they also make sure that everything works well together and has a nice groove to it. I think you find this in a lot of the more successful heavy metal bands. It's still a very intense listening experience, but its not overwhelming because there is a rhythm you can follow.

    Interesting that you say "relaxed within this aggressive style", as that's how I feel about a lot of the metal I listen to. Even if it's pretty aggressive/abrasive on the surface, it can sometimes transform into a wall of texture that's just nice to sink into. I got bored of metal for many years, but when I started listening more for the texture than the aggression, I started appreciating it in another way entirely. Thanks for doing metal videos, I'm trying to get my vocal chops up and am not quite confident enough to visit a vocal coach yet, so this is the next best thing :D

    I ve heard everything from Gojira, i 'm a classically trained guitarist, I 've listened to literally everything in metal and to this day I have no idea how Joe sings/growls like this.. its like 2 voices coming from the same person.. makes no sense. Love Gojira. Best metal band in the last 15 years.
    good extreme metal bands are very easy to listen to even by people who dont listen to extreme metal genres normally so you re definitely right on that one. i used to sleep to old in flames back in the day when i was a teenager.

    I LOVE Gojira. They have swing and groove for days, and it's not cheesy "groove metal" crap, either. Lots of catchy, syncopated riffs and that wonderful swing Mario (drummer) provides at all times. They also have a great sense of dynamics, tension and release, and their song "Lowlands" really is a showcase of that approach; they spend most of the song building up a huge amount of tension, then at just the right moment the floodgates open and the BOMB DROPS. It's fantastic and I'm going to go listen to it right now! I still suggest you check out David Vincent on Morbid Angel's song "God of Emptiness" for a really classic death metal roar approach and a surprise at the end of the song you'd appreciate.

    If you want to get a very melodic death metal then there's lots of finnish bands. Insomium, Children of Bodom, Omnium Gatherum, Norther, Kalmah. A death metal vocalist with a good clean voice is Jari maenpaa from Wintersun and his era of Ensiferum.
