Seriously. Fan comments get caught up trying to shock the creator with increasingly obnoxious songs and bands once they catch a whiff of the creator listening to something heavy. It's dumb. Gojira is a fantastic band, but there are a certainly many other songs that ought to be covered if we're attempting to explore vocal nuance within Gojira, and less-so in a live performance. Live, Gojira's strength is the instrumental and vocal *power*, it's not really an environment to explore nuance because the live delivery isn't as precise or noticeable.

4:50 I think I understand what you are getting at, here. Even as a self-proclaimed metalhead, I too have this issue. A lot of these heavier metal bands tend to lose sight of the foundations of good music in favor of trying to be as brutal as possible. Gojira is definitely heavy, but they also make sure that everything works well together and has a nice groove to it. I think you find this in a lot of the more successful heavy metal bands. It's still a very intense listening experience, but its not overwhelming because there is a rhythm you can follow.

Gojira makes you feel so good listening to their songs because the aggressive tone yet melodic time signatures make you feel a strong sense of Catharsis. Interesting that you say "relaxed within this aggressive style", as that's how I feel about a lot of the metal I listen to. Even if it's pretty aggressive/abrasive on the surface, it can sometimes transform into a wall of texture that's just nice to sink into. I got bored of metal for many years, but when I started listening more for the texture than the aggression, I started appreciating it in another way entirely. Beth, watch the live concert of Gojira from Poland 2018, Pol'and"Rock Festival. It's posted on UA-cam. Excellent performance of this band!
Def progressive metal not death metal. No two songs sound the same from Gojira. You just happened to land on their heaviest track pun included.
I'd say that in the Venn diagram of Death Metal and Prog Metal, Gojira is right in the center
Gojira is often classified as Tech-Death because they have elements of both prog and death.
Just when I think Beth can't be any cooler she goes and references Salad Fingers while watching a Gojira video. Bravo
If you want to get a very melodic death metal then there's lots of finnish bands. Insomium, Children of Bodom, Omnium Gatherum, Norther, Kalmah. A death metal vocalist with a good clean voice is Jari maenpaa from Wintersun and his era of Ensiferum.
Literally just got home from a Gojira show. WHAT A BAND
I understand what you're saying about fighting with each other. It's sonically dense but it's groovy so it's easy to follow and feels less chaotic than a lot of heavy music
