Out of all Gojira songs, there are probably 20 better songs to recommend to a vocal coach than this.
Seriously. Fan comments get caught up trying to shock the creator with increasingly obnoxious songs and bands once they catch a whiff of the creator listening to something heavy. It's dumb. Gojira is a fantastic band, but there are a certainly many other songs that ought to be covered if we're attempting to explore vocal nuance within Gojira, and less-so in a live performance.
Live, Gojira's strength is the instrumental and vocal *power*, it's not really an environment to explore nuance because the live delivery isn't as precise or noticeable.
Dude...I so agree! I am a huge Gojira fan and this was not a good choice to really show off how great they are. Kinda makes me want to punch whoever recommended this particular song, then buy them a beer because they actually got Gojira on the channel. Kind of reminds me of a video here a few weeks ago for faith no more...Mike Patton is a freaking genius, but some idiot convinced Beth to react to the absolute worst song they ever recorded.
True
Don't forget about the fans who always show up to say that a different song should've been chosen 😉
Yip.
Holy shit, she actually did Gojira.
If you're gonna do more I'd recommend Global Warming live, it's a great showcase of his voice, and he's gotten even better.
I was going to say the exact same thing. That song shows him singing a bit more.
I completely agree!
So do Global warming!!!
i guess beth won't do any more gojira, there's almost nothing to say about joe's vocal skillz - as you can see here.! he's just not that good (at least in live environments) that it makes sense to do a VOCAL reaction video. you all forget that it's about reacting to vocal skillz, not about reacting to your favorite bands.
This!!
Hi Beth.
Mario, the drummer, has those stickers on his back to secure the monitor wire. This is because he does not own any shirts. 😀
He's like Randy from Trailer Park Boys. He has an allergy reaction to fabric. But only on upper part of the body :D
Matt Pike did it better
Severely underrated comment
Evil Mario stole them all
@@VaughanRoderick How can you not wear a shirt better?
love how she gets overloaded and just blankly stares at the video questioning all her life decisions
That's just us slowly transforming her into a metalhead! Haha
Might just take a screenshot. It's how most people react to it
😂
...but then relaxes and gets into it. :)
Give us a time stamp.
Gojira is the epitome of "normally, I don't really like this kind of stuff".
they’re the perfect segway into enjoying death metal
Jacob Ballance Them and Opeth have done a lot for me.
@@pallbearer1175 and then you get Meshuggah and Behemoth and suddenly you're a babe in the woods again.
Then try Be'lakor if you really think that, i'm not saying i don't enjoy Gojira, quite the opposite but there's better bands out there that make you go "wow i got into it not really expecting much but i REALLY like it"
Try Be'lakor - Abeyance, Edit: No. You know what, listen to the whole album, Of Breath And Bone because it's such a masterpiece, every single track.
@@kiwicami287 I just checked them out and yeah, they're pretty nice. Although heavy metal and hard rock are propably the music I listen to the most, I don't quite get the _really_ deep gutteral growl, it always sounds tryhard to me and distracts me from the oftentimes otherwise great music. There are very few bands that manage to pull it off in a tasteful way for me. Be'lakor doesn't rely on it too heavily (lol) but all in all, the music for me isn't strong enough to overpower my disliking of the now and then too "growly" vocals.
I'll go ahead and listen to some more of their catalogue but at this point in time, I don't think I'll get hooked. I will have to see, I guess.
4:28 “there’s something weirdly nice about it” THAT is exactly correct
I love Gojira, but man, this is not a great recommendation for Beth.
Agreed, Saw this and was thinking, this doesn't make much sense at all for her...Love Gojira though, especially their older stuff
BBC session of Shooting Star would have been infinitely better, as he showcases pretty much all of his vocal range in that song.
I originally recommended the studio performance of Global Warming but she asked if I minded she did Silvera instead. I explained why I thought that wasn't the greatest choice and she asked about this song. I told her i thought it was better than silvera and here we are... Dunno why she didn't want to do my original suggestion maybe the length of the song or the fact that it was in studio and not in front of a crowd... I couldn't tell you her reasoning but man I'm just happy she took my suggestion at all and reacted to gojira period, and super happy that I got a shoutout too!
I think it was only a troll joke from someone. But Beth took it and didn't even know what is before her. 😂😂
Amen. This band had a strong fan base, and will let you know which songs to judge from a vocal standpoint.
Gojira the Gift Of Guilt ( live at Brixton Academy , London ) best.
Dark Picsou yes yes yes this
Yes yes yes!
Yes can agree this is a good pick.
It's the one where they did the real crazy drum solo and a big guitar solo?
His final scream in that recording gives me chills every time
Has this channel just become "Try to scare the crap out of Beth with Roars"??
Praise the Auld Alliance !
@@DreadnoughtMetal2006 yeah, they got frickin kmac over there
@@SuicideRedemption it was a pun...
I certainly hope it really did
Joe Duplantier is insane. As a metal vocalist I have no idea how he sings those growls with so much melody and great prononciation. And his clean vocals are also beautiful. I wouldn't classify Gojira even near to "classic death metal". It's so technical and nowadays even more progressive. Such a great band.
Try "Low Lands" if you want to hear Joe's voice :)
Yeeeessss.
Or global warming
Or Shooting Star
Or The Trails
love that song!
Awesome! Glad to see you take a look at Gojira! You should check out Global Warming or Shooting Star for some more clean singing from Joe.
I was just gonna say, Magma has some pretty good cleans on it.
I was also thinking Shooting Star as a starter into Gojira.
Damn, she just referenced "Salad Fingers" that's some OG UA-cam stuff there
Haven't thought of rusty spoons in... well... quite some time.
And you know we all like it when the red water comes out.

Sameee. My break has turned into 1 hour from 15 mins tho lol
What stands out with Joe is his application of melody to this "shouty" growl he has. That makes him stand out in the metal scene vocally. His voice is very tired here though, and has improved technically since. He also does some throat singing!
Hahaha gojira, whaaat? My favorite band, but not a band I'd expect to see a vocal coach react to.
I agree. Saw them last week and it was awesome but having a vocal coach analyze then seems silly to me.
I know, right?
Gilgabob the technique that goes into distorted vocals is super interesting, so to have a vocal coach react to Joe isn’t all that silly imo
@@ferriswill4929 joe himself has said he has no technique, he just screams

Mario is always on top of his game
I've binge watched several songs from your channel and I really enjoy it, I didn't expect to find this one to be honest and it put a really big smile on my face. :)
You can't recommend this, Gojira is my favorite band indeed, but you can't share this to a vocal coach who review vocal techniques, she is not a drummer, or guitarist, or bassist. I love the band but this isn't a good video to to analyze the vocals you know...
Feels like too many people wanna see the reactions and not the analysis

Yeeaah gojjjira ! Love this band
Gojira_the gift of guilt (live at bixton)
4:50 I think I understand what you are getting at, here. Even as a self-proclaimed metalhead, I too have this issue. A lot of these heavier metal bands tend to lose sight of the foundations of good music in favor of trying to be as brutal as possible. Some folks like that, but it becomes much more niche at that point because it transforms into raw noise more than anything else. Gojira is definitely heavy, but they also make sure that everything works well together and has a nice groove to it. I think you find this in a lot of the more successful heavy metal bands. It's still a very intense listening experience, but its not overwhelming because there is a rhythm you can follow.
Hey Beth! Justin here, thank you so much for the shouymtout! And I apologize profusely again for my lack of patronage this month! As I let you know I'm wading through a bit of financial worry at the moment but it won't last long I will be back very soon. And at a higher tier! I urge you to check out Gojiras performance of Global Warming that I sent to you if you enjoyed this, if you feel so inclined. Not as a reaction or anything just on your own time because it really masterfully showcases his style of "scream-singing" you so eloquently explained in this video! And again many many apologies for the lack of patronage but I promise I will be back very very soon! You do wonderful work and youdeserve every cent and more! Xoxo
Love your reactions. Love you. 😍
Keep the great videos coming. I was gald you were impressed by Mike Patton. He's been my favorite singer/artist for 28 years. Have a pleasant day. 😁
Beth did Gojira...What a day ! It's just amazing how insanely good they're live, Mario is a beast !
I reckon you should do a bit of Architects, there is a decent live performance of 'Royal Beggars' on the Epitaph Records channel where he shows off his cleans and screams really well!
I just saw these guys live like 4 days ago. Great performance.
I think your Patreon just wanted you to hear one of the most kick ass songs ever created whose title is very appropo; The Heaviest Matter of the Universe. I know the first time I heard it thinking F@#$ING H$#@ that's amazing . Glad you heard it Beth. Your professionalism and positive attitude keeps me watching.
Finally!! A Gojira Song!
You should react to The gift of guilt - the live version I think at brixton
His voice is so good thete
Gojira makes you feel so good listening to their songs because the aggressive tone yet melodic time signatures make you feel a strong sense of Catharsis. In that their “anger” (the tone they give through their music even though they aren’t actually angry) expressed through the lyrics and rapid fire drums takes away your frustrations and own stress.
Interesting that you say "relaxed within this aggressive style", as that's how I feel about a lot of the metal I listen to. Even if it's pretty aggressive/abrasive on the surface, it can sometimes transform into a wall of texture that's just nice to sink into. I got bored of metal for many years, but when I started listening more for the texture than the aggression, I started appreciating it in another way entirely. Thanks for doing metal videos, I'm trying to get my vocal chops up and am not quite confident enough to visit a vocal coach yet, so this is the next best thing :D
The drummer Mario, Joe's brother, has a wire taped up his back that plays a click/monitor in his ear.
WigginOut i would go bats crazy because of it probably😂
@@imatoaster7831 me too honestly, but I'm sure it helps him, hes one of the most accurate to the recording drummers I've seen live

Wow dang 1k comments nice! I like how you mention about it having some melodic quality, I’ve joking song along to this song in a show tunesy style and it surprisingly worked
This makes me so happy
"I find death metal so intense" … yeah, thats kinda the point of it
You should DEFENITELY react to Gojira - Stranded Live at PolandRock 2018. Joe’s cleans are GOD tier. I think you will find this live performance very interesting!
Joe's voice is the best in the genre, it really feels like he's got his shit under control the whole time, it's so natural for him.
Oh wow. You perfecly described the essence of Gojira. Aggresive but yet accessible. His mix of growl, various scream and clean vocal sometimes simultaneously is simply awesome. And the way it sit with the music is so powefull.
As you said their is something weird about thus band that make it strangely enjoyable for both Death metal listener and those who normaly don't usually like that kind of music. Hopefully Gojira can maybe corrupt some innocent soul to appreciate well crafted metal...
30 years ago it was Obituary-Cause of death that did prepared my mind musicaly for all the good death metal stuff. Especially because of the lead guitar that is extremely melodic.
Thank you for sharing your passion and for your open mind.
