One of the things that I love about this mod that is unique about it, is the tone of the final chapters after you get left behind. The combination of the level design, lighting, enemy setups, and Kevin talking to you over the radio about what he's experiencing makes it all come together. This melancholic dread that accompanies you through those last areas of the game is something I haven't seen in a half life game before, and it's special.
Not a lot of people talk about this small detail, but in this mod you are forced to kill one security guard because he is aware of your orders. This comes from the cut sequence in Opposing Force. In opposing force the security guards, Otis and Scientists all have an unused behavior called "Suspicious" and then turned on it makes every respectable staff mentioned on the map hostile towards you right away. This confirms that Gearbox originally planned that some staff in Opposing Force would've been aware of your mission and you were forced to fight them but at the end they decided they wanted to follow the original half life formula and let YOU decide if you want to spare or kill the staff
Nice to see you cover Field Intensity! Development of this actually started WAY back in 2008 under the working title "Soldiers Adventures" and has seen many revisions before it's release in 2022. Whats really impressive is how you have the capacity to rescue every Marine up until the "Evac", turning another Half-Life adventure into a surprisingly adaptive Tactical Squad Shooter. Also the sequence at 6:49 became it's own spin-off called "the Big Boned and the Curious" which currently has a very impressive demo out where you play as Otis and team up with the Vort to escape Black Mesa. You can also fight the Panther Eye in a bossfight in the very old Total Conversion "Escape From the Darkness" and as a common enemy in "Signal Lost". You honestly gotta check those out!
4:54 wrong, actually. You're that marine you see carried on a stretcher across a glass window. In fact, in the cutscene before Stefan wakes up, he sees Shephard looking at him. It made me go back to Opposing Force just to check, and yeah, this guy actually turns his head to look at Shephard as he's being carried away. The entire map this takes place in actually lines up with that first map of Opposing Force, and I checked it using... blender. Don't ask. Unfortunately, the Field Intensity map would jut into the next map of Opposing Force if they were arranged together, but I'm willing to bend canon for that, as the transition from of1a1 to of1a2 is a nondescript closet of a tunnel that nobody cares about
I know that they're different scientific terms referring to different things, but I love how Field Intensity sounds like a paraphrase of Surface Tension.
6:47 The creators are also working on a sort of spin off called "The Big Boned and the Curious" based off this moment where you play as Otis who befriends the vortigaunt and the two of them try to escape together. There's a demo out now and it's pretty good, I felt like the comedy is a little hit or miss so far, but the gameplay is great and the idea seems solid, I'm looking forward to playing the full thing. I'd recommend it to anyone who liked Field Intensity unless you just wanna wait for the full thing to come out. Field Intensity was great though, I played it a couple years ago or so. It easily fits into my top three Half-Life mods alongside Half-Life Echoes and Afraid of Monsters Director's Cut. I felt like it does what is admittedly a very fanservice-y mod without it feeling too much like it actually is fan service, everything feels very purposeful and besides getting stuck a few times it's fun from beginning to end, which is great because it's honestly a pretty long mod.
I'd say that this mod's main problem is that it underutilises the new gimmicks it introduces. The naked gargantuas? They appear in Field Intensity (the chapter) and then dissappear after you've fought 3 of them. The floaters? They appear for two scenes before they're discarded for good. Also, it would have been neat to see more interractions between weapons and npcs, such as being able to use the SAW or Sniper Rifle against the AGrunts, or using the Tau Cannon against Race X. The last minor complaint I have is the Kingpin's heat-seeking projectile lasts too long and is hard to jebait. It turns an otherwise fun bossfight into a drag. With all that said, I think this is the cream of the top of Half Life mods, standing shoulder to shoulder with Echoes and Delta Particles.
To be fair that's kind of a result of following the story, Xen teleports stop appearing after F.U.B.A.R. Any remaining Xen forces are just _there._ That's because the Nihilanth is dead by this point, so the only enemy with teleportation capability is Race X. Granted there could still be plenty of remnants, but still. (also there's a fourth mini gargantua)
Also one thing I want to point out about this mod that shows a ridiculous amount of restraint: Stefan _never encounters Gordon Freeman._ He encounters basically every other Half-Life protagonist, but not Freeman himself. (Or Alyx, I guess, but that doesn't really count?) If you liked what this mod does with the Half-Life universe, you might want to check out Half-Life: Induction. It's a very short and sweet "slice of life" mod letting the player go through a few scenarios during Gordon's employment at Black Mesa. No combat to speak of or anything, but if you're a fan of the story, it's worth checking out. At most it might take you like 40 minutes. It also ties into the ending of Field Intensity if you pay attention...
Azure Sheep isn't the only mod where you fight a PantherEye, Point of View, also by DAV Levels has a fight against one of them, as well letting you use Stukabats and Chumtoads as a weapon. Though to be clear, you play a Vortigaunt in that mod. Chumtoads are also used in Poke646, but in a different way. I'd rather not spoil, if you're interested in playing those mods again?
0:25 Only problem with that hypothetical scenario being that Valve hates Opposing Force for some reason and would never do anything that might imply they consider it canon
where do you get the impression they hate Opposing Force, they greenlit a sequel that ended up getting cancelled with their other Half Life games, I think they just wanna make sure hes used well.
I've finished Delta Particles recently because of you, and that game also plays and feels as a full official campaign. I'll definitely be playing this too, thank you, Jarek.
i searched Azure Sheep on moddb and i found out that its story also happens during the halflife 1 events. is there any other halflife 1 mods that happens at the same time as the original game? i would like to play them in sequence, to feel the whole experience.
I consider Echoes, Field Intensity, and Black Guard to be the fan made "sister trilogy" of the original trilogy, must plays for HL fans wanting more HL.
This mod is even more of a seamless addition to the series if you download the AI voice replacement, makes the new voice lines sound just like the voice lines from the official games.. it's great.
can someone help me get this running? i can't figure out the zip file thing and its really bugging me. i found this on Lucia's channel. please someone help!!!
This is one of my favorite Half-life mods out there that came out semi-recently. Though, there are things I really didn't care for though, the Kingpin was one of them. The first encounter was almost too easy, just circle strafe to win for the most part, while the second encounter is bs: For context, the second Kingpin encounter has you go on a long stretch of a Xen level, and the section before the fight has an ambush with multiple baby gargs in an enclosed space, it feels terrible to fight and you'll most likely be low on health and no medkit power remains. You get to the room of the encounter and there's a healing pod which you can sorta use to cheese the fight but it doesn't work half of the time because Kingpin throws huge AoE attacks in such a small room that you even circle strafe properly when it just decides that portion of the arena is just pain. ... All in all though, most of my complaints stem from level design and sometime encounter balancing, the mod has some cheap shots though I'd play this over Delta Particles. Delta Particles is just difficult for the sake of being it (that final Xen arena is still bs, like wow Vorts in a open space with no cover while being chased by controller energy blasts with zombies that are tankier than usual? Fun?!). Though, I did play an earlier version of the mod, so I guess I'll revisit it someday to see if some of the most eggregious, prevalent designs are addressed (spawning Vorts on places where you have to instantly find cover or take a free hit.).

No Thanks!!! i would RATHER get Tor or LibreWolf than that Piece of Chinese Spyware... also, better stick with Firefox instead!!!
I guess you could say this mod is to Half-Life 1 what Entropy: Zero 2 is to Half-Life 2.
One of the things that I love about this mod that is unique about it, is the tone of the final chapters after you get left behind. So, kill the scientists... which involves Gordon Freeman?
Would this be a better version of Hunt Down the Freeman?
Yes, Field intensity is well balanced for hard difficulty.
It is up there alongside ECHOES
as one of the best recent mods

Thanks I can tell you put some effort into this post and just wanted to say I read it and liked it
The explosive Snark is just a reskinned Penguin from Opposing Force: Capture the Flag. Same weapon entity too.
I know that they're different scientific terms referring to different things, but I love how Field Intensity sounds like a paraphrase of Surface Tension.
I was right.
FUN FACT: Kevin is played by Richter Overtime.
Both the Xen levels for Field Intensity and Delta Particles are so good.
Better than in retail Half-Life, which was rushed.
You can also fight the Panther Eye in the unfinished mod Half Life Absolute Zero which attempted to remake Half Life 1's Beta.
Iirc theres also one in the signal lost demo
As old as Azure Sheep too

Ah yes, the stream I missed because UA-cam doesn't tell me you're streaming like a day after you posted.
Great video Jarek, as always.
The otis scene is part of another mod from the same developer i think, (might be another one) where you play otis and befriend a vort
The Big Boned and the Curious
the scene from 7:00 is a reference to another mod called The Big Boned and the Curious
I like how the casings are ejected from the *bottom* of the *ammo* box
well technically it is really Opposing Force 2 since the last scene takes place after the nuke explosion.
I'd say that this mod's main problem is that it underutilises the new gimmicks it introduces.

11:39 Rubbish, However 11:51 is spot on.
A mod that actually has panthereyes in it is actually Signal Lost! you ought to check that one out, it's really good.
You finally started reviewing more mods again. Best stuff on this channel.
Also one thing I want to point out about this mod that shows a ridiculous amount of restraint: Stefan _never encounters Gordon Freeman._ He encounters basically every other Half-Life protagonist, but not Freeman himself. (Or Alyx, I guess, but that doesn't really count?)

It also ties into the ending of Field Intensity if you pay attention...
Black mesa military does the same thing and you encounter freeman a couple times during the story
>those stupid baby enemies
That cracked me up.
Azure Sheep isn't the only mod where you fight a PantherEye, Point of View, also by DAV Levels has a fight against one of them, as well letting you use Stukabats and Chumtoads as a weapon. Though to be clear, you play a Vortigaunt in that mod.

Panther Eyes are also fought in HDTF:C
Yess! Love this mod (better than OF imo) but I always wanted to see someone else look into it critically and see what they've got to say.
I will always be god's strongest panthereye fan. Definitely going to check this mod out but damn... when will my boy get the respect he deserves
I've finished Delta Particles recently because of you, and that game also plays and feels as a full official campaign. I'll definitely be playing this too, thank you, Jarek.
0:10 Colette & Gina ❤
Played this mod sometime last year and it was great, if anyone hasn't played it I highly recommend it.
Bamboozled again, I forget I get notified twice because I get early access. Here I was thinking I was getting more Jarek.
i searched Azure Sheep on moddb and i found out that its story also happens during the halflife 1 events. is there any other halflife 1 mods that happens at the same time as the original game? i would like to play them in sequence, to feel the whole experience.
Half Life: Echoes
You play as a scientist that G-Man has his eye on and it's one of the best Half Life mods made
@@Beanibirb that sounds awesome. thanks o/
Have you played delta particles before? If not, i do recommend it. It's really fun, even tho it's a bit short. Also it's on steam.
Already made a video of it.
@Jarekthegamingdragon ooop soorrryyy should've checked. Was in a hurry to get home and forgot about it.
It feels like kinda like an scp game
which one is better? This one or Delta Particles?
What I would like to see, after hearing it is the best HL mod ever, is a tier list of such mods, your top 20, maybe.
I consider Echoes, Field Intensity, and Black Guard to be the fan made "sister trilogy" of the original trilogy, must plays for HL fans wanting more HL.
It’s a first person adventure game that just happens to have boom tools wink wink, I have to say it like that because UA-cam
Oh, you mean guns! Guns, guns, guns! Fuck UA-cam.
This mod is even more of a seamless addition to the series if you download the AI voice replacement, makes the new voice lines sound just like the voice lines from the official games.. it's great.
