- music of the original soundtrack from The Wind and the Lion composed by Jerry Goldsmith 1975
starring Sean Connery, directed by John Milius (Conan)
hail to Jerry!!
It was a beautiful movie from John Millius, before Conan...
One of the greatest film scores ever
I love this movie since the 1st time i saw it. What I find amazing about this movie is how Sean Connery pulls off being the Raisuli with a Scottish accent. But he did.
It is an odd thing that non english speakers sometimes take the accent from those who they learn from...maybe
Thumbs up!!
What a wonderful soundtrack!!
Jerry Goldsmith, your music is a gift to mankind!!
Rest in peace!

Well, it's true. The actual historical events bear no resemblance whatsoever to the facts on the ground. But you gotta admit the young Candy Bergen was hot as hell. And the kids were cute.
watched the movie in history...now I'm obsessed with the soundtrack
I am pretty new to the world of film music and did not care for this soundtrack at first. The more I listen though the more I like.
This music is so good you can figure the events and the mood of the movie
Historically it was Mr. Pedecaris not Mrs who was abducted . So that removes the whole "romantic" strata. The score is majestic and sweeping very much like "Out of Africa".
Just beautiful.....
how can anyone not like this score?
I had't seen this in ages, it's a real guilty pleasure. Why guilty? Well, Milius' politics couldn't be a lot farther from mine, and this movie screams those views. I also don't want to think how many horses died making this movie. Plus, while Connery is charismatic as hell in the movie, the Scottish accent.... The not guilty parts are Brian Keith, who is incredible as Roosevelt - really, that could have gone in a dozen different directions but he nailed it. The music is the other part. What a great, sweeping score...
[EDIT] - I looked it up, and if they can be believed, all the people involved swear not a single horse was harmed making the movie. Sort of hard to believe watching it, but OK, I'll sleep better....
Glad you caught that. I read your 2nd sentence and had to reply: this is the 1st multi horse movie made by Hollywood in which not a single horse was injured. I know it's true as my family is friends with one of the vets assigned to the filming. Totally agree with you on Brian Keith. I thought for sure he would get the Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars.
cyrano Boughton That's really great to hear. There's always a little doubt, but even a degree of separation or two helps finding the truth. :)

I guess you are mostly right about Connery accent in this film, but I just want to remark that Scottish accent at times becomes very close to Middle East accent. And that is only one step to sounding like Berber. For non - English user foreign taste of Scottish accent is very clear, as it was for me.
And about the horses... Well I dont really believe they would tell if something had gone wrong. Anyway, few shots captured horses falling down while riding almost at full gallop. I can hardly believe you can control things like this strictly enough. So if really no harm was done to animals, it was propably due to luck, not due to crew's kindness.
Here's one of those who swore about the horses. I was present when he made the statements !

Outstanding.
Jerry with a touch of Roza. Beautiful....
The U.S. Marine Corps shows the march of those converged rifle companies through the streets of Tangier (and the attack on the Bashaw's palace) as an element in the boot camp inculcation of USMC spirit.
Even though the people portraying the Marines were Spanish special forces troops, and the attack didn't happen that way in real life, the Corps goes with John Milius' version.
Hell, it works, doesn't it?
As true as the presidents fixation on bears. Partly the reason for creating out of the German import toy the famous TEDDY BEAR.
I used to be able to watch this full movie on youtube. Not anymore --wonder what happened
And still so very much "Lawrence of Arabia" eh?
very good music;
Oh, yeah.
This movie is a favorite among the Islamic types throughout the Sandbox. It's one of the very few Western films that centers upon a Muslim character as an honorable, heroic, capable leader uncompromisingly portrayed as worthy of respect and admiration.
The Raisuli is the kind of man for whom the people of the Ummah have been praying for centuries.
What they get, of course, is Bashar al-Assad.
