    The branch looks great on your wall! However, I am concerned about it holding securely. A few things... The glue is not really holding the branch, to the wall itself, because it's adhering to the paint (which could peel off). Second, due to the way that the branch is curved outwards from the corner, weight in the middle of the branch will cause a twisting torque at the ends.
    The best suggestion that I can think of, is to use some jute or sisal rope, to suspend the branch from the ceiling by metal hooks. This way, if either end comes loose, the branch is still suspended by the rope. The hooks will need to be screwed into the ceiling joists (the wood beams). Make sure that each hook is screwed into wood, and not plaster. I know that you're renting, and when you move out, the patched holes in the ceiling will not be noticed as easily as patches on the wall.

    It makes since that this would be her first really hard hormonal season. This is the first time she has had to share you. You might be her person who does everything for her but now she has a second option and she has chose his as her mate. My female ecelectus has a love hate relationship with my husband where she chooses him but it very aggressive. We tried many things but the only thing that works is for him to FULLY ignore her for the month or so of hormones. As in she is not out of cage when he is in room and he doesn’t even acknowledge her in cage. Because even a TINY bit of attention from him makes her excited/aggressive to whoever is near. The rest of the year he can be around her and talk to her and she could care less but for that month she just hypes herself up if he even says good morning to her!

      Hey how old is your eclectus ? Did the hormonal season get easier after some years or does it always hit hard just maybe not as much as the first year ?

I have had her for 2yrs (so maybe 5 when found) so did not go through puberty with her. Although she has a hormonal period every yr around February or March it’s really bad for 3-4 weeks and then back to normal. It’s a rough few weeks where my husband can barely look at her and then we are a happy family again lol

    Your boyfriend definitely moved in at the wrong time of year. I hope being able to get out on more walks will help settle her a bit. Things will get easier, the first few hormone seasons are the worst. And there's nothing more irritating than when a parrot chooses a human that isn't a bird person. That hanging perch is amazing!!! may have to take that idea from you for my girls. We're having similar struggles with Lyra, screaming at the slightest noise or screaming at the window, so you're not alone. Hope you can get through this next year, If she's anything like Quaffle she'll settle down by next year. And good luck with the noise training!! hope it works! Also you're only 75 subs from your first 1k!! congrats!!

      Oh so Quaffle did turn into a velociraptor during his firsts hormone seasons but can now stay relatively calm ?
      I've found a 3yo male maximilian pionus not far away from where I live and I've really been considering getting him for months. I last saw him 2 weeks ago and he might have been a bit more chatty than usual but his behaviour still seemed pretty solid. I'm trying to gather as much infos as possible since I know it's a commitment, but pionus being often overlooked and apparently quite rare depending on the country, it's not always easy to find people who had them for years. I guess for that reason hormones wasn't something I've really paid attention to so far...
      How hard does it hit them ? Does it significantly get better the next times (like half as bad for example ?) or does it remain a challenging time period ?

    • @PionusTales
      @PionusTales 6 місяців тому +1

      @vuri3798 yes Quaffle was a grumpy little so and so the first 2 years we had her. Her cage aggression at bed time and in the morning was the worst 🙈 she was so territorial and got stupidly horny, and did the horny honks for hours a day. It drove us insane because the hotny noise is just as high pitched, bit like a squeaky toy going non stop.
      But last year (4 years old) and this year (turning 5 in May) shes SO MUCH BETTER! It definitely improves with age. And you as the owner know them better by then too, you can predict when it strikes, how they change slightly, what they're going to get angry about and how to manage them. Quaffle for example used to go full attack mode when we cleaned her cage. Now she gets angry but restrains herself.
      Between 18 months and 3.5 years it hits them HARD! Depending on when it hits them. As just like humans some people start puberty late, and some early. And from my experience each year gets easier and they get less grouchy/mood swingy every time.
      Hormones are always a challenging time depending on the individual bird, but you learn how to handle it better, how they change and what triggers their anger and territorial behavior, and learn how to adapt to that. So each year as they calm down and you get better at predicting it, it gets easier each time.
      Puberty is by far the hardest part of any parrot owners life. Because they have such a dramatic personality change, and its the time when pionus are the most screamy

      I just looked up the name and it is actually in the epipermnum family, but thankfully it is at a place where Charlie shouldn't go anyway and will be told of is she does.

      @@NishaanSinghPanday I'm actually looking to take her with me on a roadtrip holiday if possible this summer, where I will document the whole thing :D
      But other than that I have had her on weekend trips, where I bring her backpack carrier as "cage" and mostly have her out in her harness if the place dosen't allow for her to be "free".
      I must admit it has either been friends places or my parents place, so there has always been a place for me to put her in her carrier to chill, which she usually does and just sleeps until I come get her to fly and activate her a bit.
      Then I of course bring food (often pellets), offer water regularly, and other than that just hang with her, until she gets tied and goes in the carrier for chill time.
      So I'm hoping to make a "trip video" where I can show the whole thing and what I bring, but it will only be possible at the end of summer, so I hope you can use this infomation until then :)

    Hi, Stella. I am doing a lot of research on if a pionus bird is a right match for me.
    I would love to ask you some questions please.
    1. Does Charlie go through hormonal periods every single year? How long does it last and does she ever bite you?
    2. Do you think a female or a male pionus is better?
    Thank you so much for making these videos. It helps people like me to make the right decision on a huge commitment like this. Any information would be absolutely appreciated! Aloha.

    • @stellaandcharlie
      @stellaandcharlie  4 місяці тому +1

      Hiiiii! Sorry for the late answer, but I'll be glad to give my input :D
      Birds will generally have two to three hormonal periods a year mostly spanning through the spring and summer time and this is every single year from they are around 2-4 years old (depending on the individual). Hormonal behavior will almost always include some more aggressive or teritorial behavior, because the birds are wiered to build and protect a nest area. Pionus are thankfully more easy to read in regards to body language, so knowing when it's hormone season and really paying attention to their body language is the key to know when they are on edge or nesty and avoid a bite (By just leaving them alone). I have been bit by Charlie with no warnings however, so it is defffinatly possible and can hurt a lot.
      In regards to gender, I actually was looking to get a male to not worry about my bird being egg-bound (trying to lay an egg and not being able too). Now this is really just generally what I hear, but take it with a grain of salt as all birds are indivuals and their personality, training and bond has a lot to say, BUT, males do tend to be more vocal than females, aswell as displaying more aggressive behavior during hormone season in contrast to females that will usually be more nesty and territoral (and agrressive for that reason). Other than that I really don't think there is much of a difference, so I would go more for personality of the individual. Charlie was super outgoing and curious as a baby, which is why I chose her, and she has really been a joy, with egg laying and nesting never being a problem :)
      I hope that helped, and I'm so glad to read that you are doing reseach, let me know if you have any other questions :D

    Do you think charlie's behavior is typical female behavior..?.. a male will have similiar issues , male related , yearly..?... and if soooo..will it alot of aggression..?

    • @stellaandcharlie
      @stellaandcharlie  7 місяців тому

      I don't have specific experience with males, but from what I read, I would say this is "normal" hormone behavior for both males and females.
      Females can get nesting problems, where they start ti build a nest and get very territorial over it and may start producing eggs, which males won't.
      Then I hear some people say that males are more aggressive during hormone season, but that it's very different from bird to bird how hard it hits :)
