ABANDONED Neighborhood - FIRST Mow In 5 YEARS (TALL Grass: Ventrac 4520)

- This abandoned real estate development was ENTIRELY cleared for over a hundred houses back in the mid/late 2000's. Now, 15 years later, it has been abandoned back to nature except for the three homes that were built before the developer closed up shop and the front area that the city maintains.
We help them out by clearing a section of tall grass that desperately needs mowing they have ignored for five years, according to one of the neighbors we talked to. This was mowing tall, thick, dry grass with the Ventrac 4520 and HQ682 Tough Cut deck.

Only 3 families live out there in the entire town? That's freakin' paradise if you moved there from a big city. Total peace and quiet. I hope I find something like that when I retire.

Question: isn’t the total mass/volume of combustible material the same as it was? I can see it might be incrementally safer cut than standing. I think pulling it away from the developed properties would be advisable. Hauling it away would obviously be too pricey. A burn pile safely away from the houses could work.
Less oxygen available to sustain the burn and when laying down it is able to prevent new growth and begin decomposing. I agree though, it needs to be hauled away to prevent the rats/mice/creatures thing he mentioned at the beginning

@@tylerfielder5582 the grass clippings should be removed, thee are online fertilizer so the grass will come back faster.
I have seen the fire department doing controlled burn training on stuff like that.
I work for a county road dept and one of our jobs is to mow the shoulders and ditches in our right of way and easements. Let me tell you, it is difficult to keep up with everything and a lot gets ignored unfortunately. I don't know about where you work but we are a small shop with only 10 guys and we are are responsible for just under 200 miles of roads. We have 4 boom mowers and 1 shoulder mower and somehow we manage to mow all the roads while still doing other projects, though it can take us all year to mow the roads just once.

I am always amazed at the capability of the ventrac system. And the reason I call it the system it's not a mower it's a mechanical system that does many things.

That's a badass mower I've only saw them own gold course mowing and stuff like that but it done a heck of a job that's for sure

The one thing I actually like tremendously about the Ventrac is the TANDEM TIRES. It keeps them from sinking in and rutting a wet property. I wish my Kubota had that design!

That was the flail mower.
Glad to see you using a flail mower on this field. It never ceases to amaze me the landscapers who attempt to mow high grass and weeds with a homeowners rotary mower. In fact, I've never understood why every landscaper doesn't own a flail mower.
That's definitely not a flail mower. That's a bush hog! Ventrac calls it the tuff cut mower. flail mowers can't cut tree saplings like what you saw in the video..

It does more than just mow! They have about 30 different attachments. I am trying to get my hands on some to showcase them.
Is the Central an all wheel drive unit? I am impressed by the fact that this unit rarely needs to stop, back up and run at dense material. It doesn't seem to get " bogged down" when it meets with dense growth. Impressive machine. I enjoy getting to see it work.

If mower was mine ,,I would build a brush guard on the front of mower to keep branches and whatever off the hood and front of mower to keep it from getting all scrached up. Looks like you keep your stuff nice,, food for thought!!

There was a crew that mowed with large Exmark zero turns by me.
The reason I mention it is like your Ventrac, the engine never changed pitch/rpm while mowing. They had more than enough power to plow thru anything, at any speed.
