Silver is actually slightly magnetic. When testing silver bars a small neodymium will slide down rather than fall when the bar is held at a slight angle and the magnet place at the top of the bar.
You don’t pick up a piece of silver as it isn’t that strong of an attraction but also won’t fall like expected.
Also, all that copper, aluminum, and even steel will add up. A 5 gallon bucket for each and just let it accumulate.

An easy way to open those breakers is to lay them on the concrete and lay a rag or towel over it and hit them with a hammer. Not too hard but hard enough you feel it breaking into pieces. The rag or towel should be an old one that you don’t want because sometimes it tears little holes in the material. Sometimes you may have to flip it over an tap the other side, but I can do a breaker in about 45 seconds to a minute and have the contacts out.

I scrapped three 3-phase industrial 300 amp CB's from a hospital remodel. I ended up with 7# of silver and one load of copper (not all of it) brought in $700+ at the time. Sold most of the silver but retained a few pounds, I think I got about 1K out of that. Hind sight is great, yeah, wish I hung onto it. Another opportunity will come along.

I used to be a Customs Broker and one of my customers was Harris Semiconductor in Melbourne, Fl. They would get back rejected semiconductors that had gold in them. Their traffic manager got this bright idea one day to recoup the gold so I put several barrels in the foreign trade zone and suddenly it was my job to figure a way to extract the gold. Their traffic manager made the suguestion that I break them up with a hammer. After about a minute I was done and he was pissed. I told him to hit the road as I had more important things to do.

I never hit the actual silver button with the torch because sometimes some of it can melt amd become a part of the base metal it's sitting on as you get it off...
Instead (and you have Oxy/Cet, so you can) just heat the base metal up to remove the button.
I liked the video tho! Most circuit breakers of today however do not have that sort of robust silver content. It's more of a Plated tungsten mix.
They have this checkered sort of backing that's better seen AFTER you refine them.
I never refined 'only those', I always just mix them in with a random silver run so I don't know exactly how much silver is on those contacts.
In any event, it's still fun I guess. They test for silver and all.
But I've don't refinement runs where (are the end) I am left with a checkered block, pretty much the size it was going in 😂
So if you'd asked me, I don't think they have much at all. More value in the breaker from the copper even... 😮 Again, of the modern ones.
What sort of breakers were in the video, I wonder? And again, thanks for making it. Breakers are always fun.
P.s. when you pop them open, usually there's 2 rivets on one end, a single rivets on the other.
Just get thru that single rivet and use a scree driver if you can't just bust em with a hammer outright. It's the chosen method for apartment dwellers 😂

    Thanks man
I see whole panels full of brakers thrown out on the jobs if I knew that they have silver in it I could be rich

*What about the brackets that were all silver? how much of those did you get* ?

Copper components are typically plated with tin for corrosion resistance. This is why you were questioning if the first breaker had a steel component.

Used to work at places where there were thousands of those breakers laying around.
