  • Down the Great Ocean Road in Southwest Victoria, The Captain discovers one of the natural wonders of the Australian coastline. Nope, it’s not the 13th Apostle. It’s the legendary lobster lover Wayne Hanegraaf. He’s skippering his Volvo-Penta powered Pro-Marine 28ft cray boat around the ancient stones in search of juicy red marine crustaceans.

What a legend. I've driven 6 hours to Port Campbell just to have a cray meal at the local pub several times over the years. Great meal and I hope it was his crays.

One of my fondest memories is visiting Port Campbell, and going out on one of the cray boats that was now instead dedicated to taking tourists out for a closer look as the "Seven' Sisters. It was particularly moving to be sitting in the water, directly above the famous wreck of the Loch Aird.

So many people get caught up in a cooperate life of following rules and looking for money from good jobs, in other words, society's sheep. Very few people are willing to step out of line and become shepherds, leaders, not followers . And you can tell this is a man who enjoys the life he has and I have nothing but respect for people willing to step that far out of the box that is society looking for a truly good life.

I have put my boat in off the pier at Port Campbell and have done a LOT of diving around that Coast. Done many dives on the shipwreck The Loch Ard and other shipwrecks. Dived the wreck of the Fiji at moonlight heads. It's wild ocean diving but it's some of the best diving I've done and I have dived many places in Australia and the rest of the world.

I want a crane and boat launching combo. That blew my mind having grown up in a massive fishing community with a very similar crane/set-up, I always wondered what that crane was for other than diving practice.

Nice film. I used to catch crayfish in the canyon pools by my house. They are freshwater crustaceans. This fisherman I'm pretty sure is in the ocean, so those would be lobsters, saltwater dwellers and much larger. Crayfish or crawdads we call them in America are about 4 inches in length and have claws like Maine lobster.

He doesn't fish all year round. There is a closed season, plus the fishery is based on quotas. It may only take 4-5 months to fill his annual quota.
